20 YEARS
In the face of Indonesia’s challenging economic and development conditions in the late 1990s, a remarkable architectural consultant office emerged in Meruya, founded by M. Danisworo and his disciples. Despite its humble beginnings, this unnamed consultant quickly gained recognition for bringing their designs to life. In due course, the office adopted the name PDW (Planning and Development Workshop), embodying its vision of a collaborative workshop-like approach to design.
In 2003, PDW experienced a transformative moment when Archica Danisworo and Prasetyoadi joined the firm, prompting its official establishment as PT Pandega Desain Weharima. With a modest team of about 20 individuals, PDW began its new chapter, coinciding with the gradual recovery of the Indonesian economy. The year 2005 marked a significant milestone as PDW embarked on an international collaboration with WOW for the Hilton Hotel project in Bandung.
This breakthrough opened doors for PDW to engage in noteworthy projects alongside foreign consultants and led to their expansion beyond Indonesia’s borders. Their first foreign project in the Middle East paved the way for PDW to make its mark in various locations worldwide, including Oman, UAE, Vietnam, and Timor Leste.
Recognizing the importance of a comprehensive approach to design, PDW expanded its services in subsequent years. In 2012, an interior design team was established, followed by the addition of a landscape design team in 2014. These departments, which initially supported the core architecture teams, have now flourished into independent and thriving entities within PDW.
Today, each team collaborates harmoniously, leveraging their specialized expertise to deliver exceptional results across a diverse range of projects.
PDW’s dedication and pursuit of excellence have not gone unnoticed. In 2016, the firm received its first BCI Asia Top 10 Architects award, a testament to their commitment to creating cohesive and impactful spaces. PDW’s individual designs have also earned them prestigious accolades. Gran Rubina, for instance, has garnered recognition through awards such as the IAI Awards, CTBUH Awards, and Asia Pacific Property Awards for its design excellence. Likewise, the PCP Tower has been honored with International Property Awards. These accomplishments have inspired PDW to continuously strive for design excellence and push their creative boundaries further.
In 2018, PDW underwent a re-branding process, reflecting its evolution as an established company. With expanded teams and involvement in projects of varying scales, PDW divided its workforce into architecture design, interior design and urban design, planning, and landscape design. Furthermore, PDW updated its logo design to embody the simplicity and clarity of their approach. With a workforce that has grown to 140 employees, PDW has solidified its position as a leading architectural firm.
As the demand for exemplary architecture continues to soar, encompassing not only aesthetics and building technology but also environmental and social sustainability, PDW remains at the forefront of innovation. The ever-changing landscape motivates the firm to continuously evolve and push boundaries, ensuring optimal performance for the endusers of the spaces they design. PDW actively collaborates with independent institutions such as the Green Building Council Indonesia, Jakarta Property Institute, Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (Indonesian Architect Association), and IARKI (Indonesian Institute of Urban Designers), working together to tackle the challenges of the current era and meet the evolving needs of society.

Originally named ‘BMW Stadium’ due to its proximity to BMW Park, the proposed 50,000-capacity venue was intended to replace the demolished Lebak Bulus Stadium, making way for the Jakarta MRT train depot. However, disputes over land ownership and subsequent plans for an 80,000-capacity stadium for the 2018 Asian Games resulted in construction delays and eventual cancellation.
After resolving the land dispute, the site was cleared for construction in 2017, and former squatters’ buildings were demolished. The re-designed Jakarta International Stadium, breaking ground in March 2019, features a capacity of 82,000 and excludes a running track, setting it apart from previous iterations. This iconic structure aims to integrate sports, culture, and environmental considerations while addressing Jakarta’s challenges such as religious diversity, cultural diversity, a youthful population, and environmental complexities.

Jakarta International Stadium enlighted by LED to enhance the experience of its visitors during big events. Tribunes for 82,000 spectators with sufficient access for crowd dispersion to ensure safety.
Composition
The site is divided into three distinct zones based on their surrounding neighborhood. The centerpiece of the design is a strategically placed stadium, surrounded by an elevated concourse that provides seamless pedestrian access, linking all three zones together.
Façade
The building showcases a captivating façade with the Gigi Balang pattern, a Betawi motif, integrated with PERSIJA football club’s tiger fur pattern. It also features a retractable roof, while carefully placed lighting enhances the façade’s allure at night. The second skin design enables natural ventilation, adding to the building’s innovation.
Landscape
An elevated concourse was added for pedestrian access to main spectator lobby. As the tallest structure in the area, it provides 360° panoramic view of North Jakarta. It gracefully descends towards the public park in the western zone. The concourse also provides patterns facing qibla to accomodate possible religious events such as Eid.
A Sustainable Approach Future Development
The Jakarta International Stadium incorporates the concept of a breathing building, utilizing perforated panel façades and a retractable roof to allow fresh air to enter while releasing hot air naturally. Natural ventilation is implemented in the public concourse and tribune areas, with fresh air entering through the perforated façade panels, and hot air being expelled through the open roof above the soccer field. The stadium design also maximizes natural lighting by employing a transparent material for the openable roof and allowing indirect

sunlight into the tribune and public concourse areas through the perforated panels. To harness the equator’s sun, solar panels are installed on the roof, generating on-site renewable energy. The design of the Vomitory Egress takes into account the number of spectators and the width of pasage, ensuring efficient evacuation during both casual events and emergency situations. In any circumstance, all stadium spectators must be able to exit the seating area within 8 minutes.

Evolve signifies adaptability and innovation, ensuring the center can cater to future technological advancements with ease. The building’s massing allows for future development, while the integration of solar panels ensures sustainable power supply.
Connected symbolizes the harmonious integration of zones and green spaces. The center features two distinct areas: the green zone, housing offices and rental spaces, and the red zone, reserved for authorized personnel. This segregation enhances security while fostering better service. A central courtyard serves as the connecting heart, accessible only to authorized personnel, yet visible from the office building’s lounge through a grand window, establishing a sense of connectivity.

To safeguard the book collection, the collection is placed between the two reading areas sheltering it from direct sunlight. It also allows additional bookshelves in the future.
