ADVENTURES IN TELEHEALTH

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our nation, it has transformed how mental health providers practice. At PCTC, we made swift transitions from in-person counseling to telephone and video counseling, allowing for student interns to continue providing much needed care to the Portland, Tigard, and surrounding communities.

INTERNS: Being & Becoming

TEACHING & DEVELOPMENT At PCTC, interns are trained in counseling skills, utilization of theory, assessment strategies, and the art of providing care to diverse people within a counseling setting and relationship. An additional integral aspect of training is the intern's development in leadership and advocacy. During the Spring and Fall 2020 semesters, PCTC interns were tasked to present topics that infused culture, equity, social justice, and the field of counseling that, in the future, can be used in their work with clients, professional training, and teaching. We titled these presentations

Passion Projects .

These snap-shots of the interns' interests offered rich opportunities to expand critical thought, practice public speaking, and lean into a leadership stance in the counseling profession.

NEW Training IN 2021

Beginning in 2021, PCTC will hold continuing education training for mental health professionals. The training topics will focus on diversity, ethics, professionalism, intersectionality, and social justice in counseling settings. These PCTC trainings will be led by the Clinic Director, Unique Page, and other leaders in helping professions. The PCTC student interns will have numerous opportunities for mentorship in facilitating aspects of the training sessions. These trainings provide an opportunity to engage and connect with professionals and will also be an opportunity for them to gain leadership and teaching skills.

Partnership The Graduate School of Counseling and PCTC are excited to partner with the George Fox Wellness Enterprise to advance Interprofessional Practice and Education training. PCTC will collaborate with a local church to outfit PCTC's five counseling rooms with decor that will enhance a warm counseling environment.

Payments & Cost of Services Economic hardship hit millions as layoffs and furloughs left people without their employergiven healthcare amid a global health crisis. People are struggling with isolation, losing their jobs, fear of getting sick, and the uncertainty of what the future will bring. In times of such uncertainty, PCTC maintained its desire to serve people in need through the art and profession of counseling. With hope and faith in God and the creation and dissemination of the COVID-19 vaccine, we will resume our low cost, sliding scale payments Fall 2021.

PCTC Voices I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be an intern at PCTC. Although learning to become a counselor during a pandemic is challenging, having the supervision of Professor Page and the community of fellow PCTC interns has made this time rewarding and invaluable to my career development. Emilee H. 2020 PCTC Intern As my time as graduate assistant comes to an end, I am so grateful to reflect on the opportunity. Watching, helping, and learning as my peers develop their skills, absorbing how to run a clinic and convert to alternative care (Telehealth), and the steadfast support and mentorship from Professor Page have all culminated into an irreplaceable leadership experience. As I move into my next role as intern it is with appreciation for all I have learned from PCTC. Jennifer N. 2019-2020 PCTC Graduate Assistant

PCTC is one of the very few places that recognizes and utilizes the power of collaboration as a key piece to the development of the therapists . The collaborative culture of weekly group supervision, triadic supervision and developing alongside other interns creates a unique opportunity to engage in frequent professional conversations and ethical consultations.
