APPLICATION SOFTWARE These are Software that you install on your operating system software to perform specific tasks. Application software also have compatibility issues with different operating systems. The common application software files for Windows OS have the .exe extension (executable) and the .msi (Microsoft Installer). For MAC OS is .app (application), Linux has .deb (debian), and much more. To make it easier to sort through, application software are categorized by their functionality. These include - Antivirus, Authoring tools, CD/DVD tools, Compression tools, Desktop enhancement, File managers, Internet, Mobile Phone tools, Multimedia, Network tools, Office tools, Programming, Science/CAD, Security, System, Tweak, Widgets, and others.
