PCE DELIVERY SOCIAL VALUES

At PCE, our business philosophies are underpinned by strong social values. We believe in nurturing people through development, lending a hand to charities and communities, and championing highly efficient and repeatable DfMA systems for more sustainable, predictable, and highquality construction.

By creating pathways to improved sustainability and efficiency across all build sectors, we’re helping shape a better, more responsible future for construction.

HMP Fosse Way is the greenest prison ever constructed in the UK. This is in part due to the implementation of PCE’s HybriDfMA Secure Prison system, an innovative, platform approach to designing and building prisons in the most efficient, valuable, and sustainable way.

PCE continue to drive and develop sustainability benefits through its platform offering. Progress from HMP Fosse Way to HMP Millsike has seen a reduction in embodied carbon of 195 tonnes per houseblock. Continued innovation, analysis, and testing will ensure progress continues in refining the most sustainable solutions.

Local Labour

The location of local labour and suppliers is critical to PCE’s logistical, manufacturing, and social values strategies. Where possible, we look to engage with those local to projects to assist in the betterment of local communities. ‘Going local’ also limits travel requirements, helping in the drive for more sustainable operations and supporting the MoJ’s net zero ambitions

Our people are our partners. Not only is PCE 100% equally owned by our people through our Employee Ownership Trust, we believe in the power of employee voice. Our philosophy of engagement, involvement and participation means our people help make the decisions that define our identity, drive our business and shape our future.

That’s why 96% of our employees feel proud to work for PCE, with scores of 94% job satisfaction and 92% empowerment, marking PCE as a Sunday Times 2023 Best Place to Work business.

PCE has established a culture built around development. By investing in our workforce and providing a challenging, inspiring and rewarding platform, we help our employees to learn, grow and flourish, advancing their skillsets, progressing their careers, and helping realise their potential.

PCE’s Academy vision:

In addition to its apprenticeships, work experience placements, and graduate roles, PCE are working with educational bodies across the construction industry. Our vision is to establish an academy to help upskill and educate future generations with the expertise needed for the most efficient, fast, sustainable construction solutions. It will ensure those on the programme are embedded in digital construction, using the latest technology and digital strategies to deliver excellence.

Beyond PCE, the company is looking at ways it can address the construction skills gap, such as careers advice, provision of basic training material, and rehabilitation opportunities across the UK’s prison estate.

Our focus is not just on the future of construction, it is on the future of our society. PCE are committed to aiding in the rehabilitation of the prison community through providing an education and upskilling pathway. Equipping prisoners with the skills, experience, and confidence to re-immerse themselves back into society upon their release from prison significantly helps reduce reoffending likelihood. It opens the door to a new career, new opportunities, and a new future.

ROTL (release on temporary licence):

As part of this commitment, with the support of the MoJ, PCE has engaged up to 10 ROTL prisoners across HMP Fosse Way and HMP Millsike. Through embedding ROTL workers into the assembly teams, they have gained and developed key construction skills, as well as transferable skills such as teamwork and communication, to aid in their rehabilitation.

Charity and Community Support

At PCE, we are committed to supporting local communities. That’s why we actively engage with local charities and community organisations, working hand in hand to promote improved social welfare. Whether it’s through donations, volunteering initiatives, or skillsharing programs, we are dedicated to making a positive impact on the communities around us.

PCE has partnered with the MoJ to create a mobile workshop, providing prisoners with training in design, manufacture, and construction. Our mission is to upskill and prepare them for post-release careers. Currently based at HMP Fosse Way, today’s strategy will see prisoners designing and manufacture components to support the MoJ’s New Prison Programme. Tomorrow’s vision sees these rehabilitation opportunities extended across the UK’s prison estate, having a real, direct, and significant impact on cutting reoffending and promoting rehabilitation. Together, we’re building a pathway to a brighter future.
