Let’s GO!

It’s summer, y’all! I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling so ready for a calmer few months—in terms of there being fewer people being around. On the flip side, I’m excited for all the offseason shenanigans in store. During season, there are so many wonderful events and everyone is here, out and about on the scene. But summertime? That’s when we year-rounders get to let loose and really sizzle! When I began planning our summer issue, I couldn’t think of a more perfect group of people to kick things off than radio folk. Radio personalities are such an incredibly fun bunch—always totally themselves and a little bit wacky in the best of ways—and I just knew we’d have a blast at our photo shoot. I rounded up seven of the biggest radio (and podcast—hey, Carmine!) voices around, and they did not disappoint! Get to know the gang in “Radio Heads,” which starts on page 52. Back in May, we headed up to Fort Pierce to revel in the wild at Adams Ranch and shoot this month’s fashion feature. As always, our talented fashion editor, Zlata, collaborated with the photographer, hair and makeup artist, model, and fashion vendors to create absolute magic. See all the looks in “Ranch Life,” beginning on page 62. A big thank you to the Adams Ranch family for hosting us at your beautiful property. Last but not least, if you’re looking for a quick (and bougie) escape this summer, you’ll want to check out the travel feature by Sarah Wolf on page 68. Our amazing state is filled with luxury resorts, private island retreats, and Michelin-starred restaurants to boot. Find out where to experience the best of the best all across the state in “Five-Star Florida.”

Peace and blessings,

Sun-soaked summer

As the summer sun begins to warm our shores and the sea breeze stirs memories of long days and balmy nights, the latest edition of Stuart Magazine continues to celebrate life in the beautiful communities of the Treasure Coast.

Even though it is the warmest time of year here in South Florida, I absolutely love the slower pace of life during the offseason. It’s a great time to plan travel—or, as I like to do, embrace a relaxing “summer escape.” Read a book. Take a long walk on the beach. Swim in the ocean. Catch up with friends and family. Quiet all the hustle and bustle of the busy fall and winter months and shut it down!

Summer in South Florida isn’t just a season, it’s a way of life. From boat days along the Intracoastal to strolls along our beachy shores to family time under the palm trees, this time of year invites us to slow down, savor the moment, and reconnect with what makes our coastal corner of Florida so special.

Many of us live here year-round, and I encourage those of you who do to keep supporting our local businesses. Try a new restaurant that may be hard to get into during the seasonal months, look for some hidden nature escapes, plan to watch a sunrise on the beach, or check out a local boutique for your summer wear. Staycations are also wonderful, and many of our Florida resorts have special offers for residents—so why not explore our great state by taking a long weekend away somewhere close by?

Before we know it, season will be upon us once more, and Stuart Magazine has many special promotional and advertising sections coming up. In October, get ready for our annual Faces of Martin & St. Lucie Counties profiles. If you’re interested in being a part of this advertising section, reach out to me soon! October is also the issue that includes our annual Charity Datebook, which lists all the great charities and philanthropic events coming up this season—again, contact me if you would like to be included.

In every issue, we have our Home Resource Guide, Luxury Homes Real Estate Guide, and Flavor Dining Guide. If you are interested in advertising in any of these special sections, please be in touch. Many advertisers are already looking ahead to 2026 for their planning, and I am happy to discuss new opportunities to promote your business in Stuart Magazine

As always, we remain grateful to our readers, contributors, and community partners who continue to support and shape Stuart Magazine. Please keep in touch and stay in the know by signing up for our Insider’s Guide newsletter, which is delivered to your inbox weekly. You can sign up on our website, stuartmagazine.com

PURPOSE A Peaceful

The 22-acre Old Citrus Estate in Port St. Lucie is not your average farm. The fully sustainable paradise owned and operated by the Koprowski family is a faith-driven venue offering unique experiences like goat fitness classes and its signature Cuddles & Coffee events with baby goats to provide fun, animal-assisted therapies to the community.

The farm is the creation of Darah Koprowski, a former wedding coordinator who envisioned a wholesome space to hold events. But after she and her husband, James, fell in love with a couple of Nigerian Dwarf goats, the mission shifted. “As soon as our first goat

babies were born, all of our friends and family wanted to meet them,” Koprowski recalls. “Seeing our loved ones grinning from ear to ear led me to do some research.” She discovered that goat therapy can ease anxiety, boost mood, and even reduce physical pain—and she began planning to incorporate what she’d learned into her farm.

Koprowski herself lives with a painful mix of autoimmune disorders including lupus, Crohn’s disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. Her daughter Jensen, now 10, has a severe form of juvenile idiopathic arthritis, which requires weekly injections. Says Koprowski: “When you have chronic pain, it also affects you emotionally and mentally. Interacting with the animals fills you with joy and gives you a sense of peace. Your focus isn’t on your pain, it’s on the animals.”

In 2019, she launched an animal therapy program at the farm called Peace.Love.Goat. “We cuddle-train the goats—they are highly trainable, like dogs,” she says. After launching Cuddles & Coffee, she expanded

the offerings to include goat fitness, kids’ camps, fashion shows and hoedowns, and various holiday events. She also added more animals to the farm—Netherland Dwarf bunnies, donkeys, chickens, and a miniature Highland cow. While Peace.Love.Goat officially kicks off its season in October (and runs through May), the public can book private tours and events (birthday parties, bridal/baby showers, bachelorette parties, etc.) year round. Private bookings include a farm tour plus activities like interacting with the family’s Highland cow and other animals. Custom decor packages like balloon arches and a cute horse trailer that doubles as a food and beverage stand can also be requested.

This fall, Koprowski will launch Peace.Love.Glamp, where guests will be able to spend the night in one of three luxury tents nestled in a wooded corner of the farm. Think: Tempur-Pedic beds, sky-gazing roofs, and a coffee bar right inside the tent. Koprowski says she plans to offer a discount to guests who commit to disconnecting from their phones for a certain amount of time each day.

But it will always be the animals that are the heart of the farm—and the comfort they give to everyone who encounters them. Koprowski speaks fondly about one returning guest, a nonverbal autistic boy who spoke his first words during a trip to the farm and now visits with his family every year on his birthday. “Guests come for the cuteness and leave feeling like family,” she says.

Afloat Staying

Babies as young as 6 months old can save themselves from a potential drowning tragedy—here’s how

It takes a village to raise a child, and in a water-centric place like South Florida, an essential member of that village is a swim instructor. Since 1993, Joan Arpe (fondly known as “Ms. Joany”) has helped thousands of families keep their children safe in the water, teaching the Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) method.

“It’s a behavioral science in the water,” Arpe says of the method developed in 1966 by Harvey Barnett, Ph.D., a professor in the psychology department at the University of Florida, which uses touch to develop muscle memory. The program teaches infants aged 6 to 12 months how to stay afloat in the water and remain calm through breath control, head orientation, and rolling onto their backs. When they are between 1 and 6 years old, kids learn to repeat a three-step sequence of swimming, floating, and swimming until reaching the edge or stairs. During some

lessons, students wear clothing and shoes, since young children are often dressed when they accidentally fall into bodies of water like swimming pools. Through simulated fallins, tots build confidence to self-rescue until help arrives.

Arpe offers ISR lessons at various locations in Palm Beach County, including Jupiter and Tequesta. The program runs five days a week for a minimum of four weeks (some children may require additional weeks), and the cost is $50 per 10-minute lesson. All individual lessons are given one-on-one, as parents stand poolside and watch.

Many of Arpe’s ISR lessons are held at the Live Like Jake Foundation indoor heated pool in Palm Beach Gardens. The local foundation established by Keri and Roarke Morrison, who tragically lost their 2-year-old son Jake to a drowning accident in 2013, generously makes the program accessible to all income levels through need-based scholarships. jupiterisr.com; livelikejake.com ❖

8 Ways to Help Prevent a Drowning Tragedy

Joan Arpe offers some useful tips for keeping your kids safe around water

• Enroll children in swimming lessons!

• Learn CPR

• Effective adult supervision is crucial; if hosting a pool party, hire at least one lifeguard

• Create a barrier by installing a pool fence

• Install locks and alarms on doors and windows, and make sure any pet doors are locked

• Keep the pool area clear of toys that could attract a child to the pool

• Do not use the pool area as a playpen; when your children are done swimming, have them play elsewhere, away from the pool

• Avoid blue swimsuits, which blend into the water and make it harder to recognize a child in distress; opt for bright-colored swimwear that is easier to spot

Amplified FAITH,

Blending modern rock with Jewish values, the Institute of Jewish Rock strikes a new chord in Palm Beach Gardens with inclusive, intergenerational music education

Get ready to turn up the volume on community education, as the new Institute of Jewish Rock opens in Palm Beach Gardens this fall. Abbie Strauss founded the program in Memphis back in 2017 before relocating to Palm Beach Gardens with her family in 2020. Now she’s ready to expand with a full roster of classes and special events.

Through the membership-based Institute of Jewish Rock, Strauss aims to help people embrace music and find their “authentic voice.” “Music has always been a big part of my life,” she says. “I have a ‘different-sounding’ voice—it’s not operatic, and I was sometimes afraid to share my vocal talent for fear of rejection. But I didn’t want to hold back something that

I knew was a gift.”

Strauss is a cantor—a Jewish spiritual leader who leads prayer through music—and travels around the world, bringing communities together through music. She also sits on the executive board of the Cantors Assembly, mentors emerging teen and young adult leaders through Jewish Rock Radio, and shares her music and spirituality as a recording artist.

In addition to classes, Strauss plans to offer a mentorship program for music educators as well as a robust schedule of concerts and special events that will feature students and professional musicians (see sidebar for calendar).

The school blends Jewish values, modern rock, and soulful community into an epic music experience that Strauss says is “for everyone, no matter your age or faith background.” Rock the Mitzvah courses, open to kids in Pre-K through grade 12, will be held Wednesdays in person and Thursdays online and teach the basics of rock band instruments—from guitar to drums to ukulele—while blending Jewish melodies and values. (Oneon-one or small group classes can be requested.) For adults, there is a monthly class that Strauss describes as more of a laid-back jam session for all skill levels. Says Strauss: “The adult classes focus on coming as you are and sharing songs that bring you joy.” There is also a monthly “mommy and me” Tot Rock class open to children aged 6 and younger and their parents.

Classes, which are open to members only, launch September 3; registration must be completed by August 22. Concerts and special events are free for members and open to the public for a fee. instituteofjewishrock.com ❖

Catch and Release Care with

As snook migrate to our waters in great numbers to spawn this summer, be mindful of how you handle them

Anywhere you travel, if you’re an angler, you’ll always discover a fish species that represents that geographic location. The Northwest has salmon; the Northeast, striper. In South Florida, it is the common snook.

As long as people have inhabited the Florida peninsula, the snook has provided both an important food source and a wonderful recreational opportunity. As a food fish, snook offer a delicate, flaky texture and a mild sweet flavor. Initially considered unpalatable by early settlers due to a “soapy” flavor imparted by

the skin, the snook gained favor once it was discovered how much more delicious it is as a skinless fillet.

As a game fish, you couldn’t ask for more than what the snook offers. Explosive bites, hard runs, and aerial acrobatics— combined with availability across a wide range open to the public, regardless of your background—truly make this species every man’s sport fish.

GEORGE LABONTE
Capt. Ramsey Hayes with a fresh catch; fishing for snook with a fly rod at Jupiter Beach (inset).

The pre-conservation practices of our earliest residents in the days before the more recent population explosion led to unregulated harvesting of snook and a subsequent sharp decline in their numbers. The state stepped in back in 1957 and declared snook a game fish, prohibiting commercial sales. This measure, followed by bag and size limits, was intended to help the recovery of the stocks.

Since the first efforts to rebound the snook population, this fish has faced numerous challenges. A combination of habitat loss from coastal development, declining water quality, increased fishing pressure as the population has grown, even a couple of unusually hard freezes—all have had a negative impact on the relative abundance of the snook. Presently, snook are considered fully

recovered by FWC standards, with a cautionary caveat: Sustainability is only measured by the current population dynamics and relative fishing pressure accordingly. As our numbers increase, habitat continues to decline and new anglers compete for the same amount of fish, meaning the current figures will obviously fluctuate over time.

Snook are widely distributed across our local waters year-round, from coastal mangrove-lined shores to deep water channels and inlets to ocean beaches. During the warmer months, they aggregate in great numbers to spawn in our inlets, and any fish that schools in such numbers in a predictable location is historically susceptible to overfishing. That is why the FWC regulates snook fishing, limiting it to catch and release only during this time, June 1 to August 31. Still, the stress of overhandling can prove fatal even to released fish.

Open Season: September 1 to December 14; February 1 to May 30 (bag limit 1 fish; slot limit 28-32 inches)

It is critical that as stewards, we treat these fish with respect. If fishing for snook this summer, do everything you can to ensure the fish’s survival after release. Avoid removing them from the water for photos (and high fives) as much as possible and allow them sufficient time to recover their energy before letting them go.

ANCESTRY TRAVEL

LOCAL TRAVEL AGENT DEBBIE HUDZIK IS OFF

ON AN EPIC ADVENTURE TO DISCOVER MORE ABOUT HER HERITAGE—AND HERSELF

As a travel agent, Palm Beach Gardens resident Debbie Hudzik has spent years planning vacations for others. This year, it was time for the owner of Lotus Travel Company to plan her own epic adventure.

Hudzik left Florida in February armed with a one-way ticket overseas, along with a genetic report and the contact info for some newfound family members. On a quest to discover her roots, she set out to visit the places her ancestors were from to get a better idea of where she came from. “The older I get, the more I want to know my backstory,” says Hudzik.

A growing trend in the travel business, ancestry travel— also known as genealogy travel or heritage travel—focuses on tracing your family’s journey, visiting the places where your ancestors lived, and experiencing the culture and history that shaped your family’s history. For Hudzik, the desire to embrace the trend began last year, after she ordered a genetic

testing kit from 23andMe. She sent in her saliva for analysis, and the results were both expected and surprising. “I knew my father was 100 percent Polish, and my mom said her ancestors were from Germany,” says Hudzik. “But we didn’t really know much else.” The report showed that Hudzik was 52 percent Polish and Ukrainian, 32 percent French and German, and 13 percent British and Irish. It also pinpointed exactly where in the world Hudzik’s ancestors had hailed from—places like Swansea in Wales, Ternopil Oblast in Ukraine, and BadenWürttemberg in Germany—which she quickly began exploring on Google Maps.

Hudzik decided to open an account on ancestry.com so she could locate kin around the world. “I found a relative in

COURTESY

Poland who connected me with two other relatives,” she says. Before she knew it, she had more than 200 relatives in her Ancestry database.

She began planning her ancestral voyage, with a little help from social media. On sites like Facebook, she collaborated with people who had planned similar heritage journeys. “I met someone who was able to find her great-grandmother by going to the town she was from,

visiting coffee shops and churches, and just walking around talking to people,” says Hudzik.

As Hudzik heads out on her ancestral voyage this summer, she is aware that the changing borders of European countries over the years might pose challenges in her quest to trace her own roots, as history can often be erased along the way.

“During World War II, many records were destroyed, which makes things more difficult,” she says. Nonetheless, she is excited to see what she might discover about her ancestors—and herself.

Since February, Hudzik has been

traveling for business and leisure to places including Vietnam, Cambodia, Bali, and Turkey. But this summer, she begins the personal leg of her journey, starting in Krakow, Poland and visiting 38 regions in seven countries when all is said and done. In Krakow, she will be staying with some newly discovered relatives, and she is looking forward to the unknown.

“I don’t know what I’m doing,” Hudzik says. “I’m just going to go and walk the streets and hope to get a better understanding of myself and who I am.”

Follow along with Hudzik on her ancestry travels at thelotusnomad.com. ❖

The KVJ Show on 97.9 WRMF

irginia Sinicki has seen many changes in radio since she began her career in 1992, but the most notable change might be her wardrobe. “We used to be able to go to work in pajamas, no makeup, and hair all arrrgh!” she says, quickly flipping her hair on top of her head, forming a makeshift bird’s nest to demonstrate. It is this quirky, witty, fun-loving personality that has made the Tequesta resident a fan favorite on the popular KVJ Show for the past 26 years.

Originally from New Orleans, Sinicki was introduced to radio while studying broadcast journalism at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. “I was not a good student,” she says. “I wanted to be, but I just didn’t have the brain capacity.” She ended up doing an internship at classic rock station 100.7 The Tiger in Baton Rouge and left LSU soon after when she was offered a full-time job as a salesperson and on-air talent. She was 19 years old.

Over the next seven years, Sinicki moved from Louisiana to stations in Huntsville, Alabama; New York City; and Gulfport, Mississippi before she got the call that would bring her to Florida in 1999. “[Kevin Rolston] had been offered the job here in Florida at WiLD 95.5, and he was trying to find a female cohost,” recalls Sinicki. “We had great chemistry.”

After a brief stint in Miami, the threesome eventually landed at their current home on West Palm Beach–based 97.9 WRMF, where they spend weekday mornings entertaining listeners with conversations about everything—and nothing. “It’s like Seinfeld; it’s a show about nothing,” says Sinicki. “It’s a show about people just living their lives and trying to survive in the world.”

More than three decades into her radio career, Sinicki still loves being an on-air personality. “It’s pandemonium, it’s silliness, it’s being a crazy person and getting paid for it,” she says. “My nature is to be a crazy person, so it falls right in line with how I’m put together.”

In 2013, The KVJ Show launched a podcast, which Sinicki says allows them to “talk a little bit more naughty and scandalous.” This year, their focus is on KVJ Cares, a foundation she and her cohosts formed to support various needs in the community. “It’s really a grassroots thing,” says Sinicki. “People in our KVJ Nation make recommendations on what we should do, where we should go, and who we should help, and we are able to mobilize to help.”

She moved to West Palm Beach and spent the next 14 years on WiLD 95.5 with Rolston and Jason Pennington, who was added to the show in 2004, making it The KVJ Show (“KVJ” for Kevin, Virginia,

Sinicki says she’d also love to start planning adventures for listeners. “I really want to take a giant group of listeners to New Orleans, my hometown, for Mardi Gras,” she says. “I don’t know if it will be manageable, but it would be so fun.” And maybe just a little bit crazy—but Sinicki wouldn’t have it any other way. @virginiakvj (Instagram); wrmf.com

HWEST

drive on WAVE 92.7 and midday on Coast 103.7

eath West picked up a microphone as a teenager and hasn’t put it down since. The Vero Beach resident knew he wanted to be on the radio ever since he was a kid growing up in Okeechobee. “As a child, I had two record players in my bedroom,” he says. “So as one song ended, I was able to play the next one just like they did on the radio.”

His sophomore year at Okeechobee High School, when the school decided to send some students to local radio station WOKC for a “DJ for a Day” event, West jumped at the opportunity. After spending an hour on the air, he was hooked. “I went back to the station and told them I could do an hour every week and talk about school, activities, and the sports schedule and do requests from high school kids,” he says. The station gave him a weekly time slot, Saturday nights from 6 to 7 p.m. A few months later, the regular night disc jockey moved to Illinois, and West was hired to deejay six nights a week at the age of 16.

That first gig launched a career in radio that spans three

decades at various stations, all in the local market. Since 1999, West has been a key personality on iHeart Radio’s hit local “new country” station, WAVE 92.7, where he helms the afternoon time slot on weekdays from 2 to 7 p.m. He is also the midday host on WAVE’s sister station, Coast 103.7, weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Over the years, West has been backstage with country stars like Luke Bryan, introduced Ronnie Milsap on the Lyric Theatre stage, and met countless other famous musicians, but he is rarely starstruck. “I met a lot of these stars when they were brand new and trying to become the next big thing,” says West. “So you cheer them on, and it’s good to see they’re having success.... But you knew them when.”

As West celebrates a milestone age this year, he looks back on his career with gratefulness: “I just turned 50, and I’m very happy and thankful in this day of change to still be on the radio and still be local.” @heathwest927 (Instagram); wave927.iheart.com; coast1037.iheart.com

SEVAREID

Mo & Sally Show on Today’s KOOL 105.5

isteners of The Mo & Sally Show may be surprised to learn that the beloved radio couple was once embroiled in a scandal. In 1992, they were both working at radio station K92 in Roanoke, Virginia—Sevareid as a morning host and Foster on nights. “We were dating at the time, but nobody knew it,” says Foster. When Sevareid’s cohost left, Foster took his place, and it became harder to keep their secret in the small community. “People would see us out, and there were rumors like, ‘Maybe they’re cheating on their spouses!’ recalls Foster. “When we finally came out as a couple, it made the news. Yeah, it was pretty big.” Foster and Sevareid married in 1994.

A native Virginian and a 1985 graduate of Virginia Tech, Sevareid worked in radio and TV news in Myrtle Beach, Richmond, and Cleveland before landing at K92 in 1988. Originally from Dallas, Foster cut his teeth at various stations in Texas, as well as the Satellite Music Network, before joining Sevareid at K92 in 1992.

In 1999, the couple received a message from a consultant who was looking for a morning show for a station in West Palm Beach. “We came down to interview, and I had stone crabs for

the first time in my life,” says Sevareid. “I said to Mo, ‘We have to move here.’” They accepted the morning show job at Mix 102.3—but two years later, they lost the gig. They found out they were being let go by reading about it in The Palm Beach Post. “Management kind of botched that one,” says Foster.

Within 24 hours, they got a call from the owner of 97.9 WRMF, offering to put their morning show on at night. “We had a blast,” recalls Foster. “Everyone was happy until he sold the station.” Adds Sevareid: “And we were fired again.” A few months later, iHeart offered them the morning show on Today’s KOOL 105.5, where they’ve been since 2003.

Listeners of the popular show enjoy hearing about the day-to-day antics of the Palm Beach Gardens couple—home improvements, golf, foodie adventures, and the nuances of married life. “Long ago, we established that we were going to be an escape, so we don’t do anything serious,” says Foster. “I like to think of it as Everybody Loves Raymond on the radio.” The secret to their success both working together and in marriage? Foster answers without missing a beat: “Wine.”

DANIELS

The Mo & Sally Show on Today’s KOOL 105.5

Curtis Daniels remembers listening to the Mark McCrazy radio show on his way to school as a kid. “It seemed like they were having such a good time, and that whole vibe stuck with me,” he says of the McCrazy Experience morning show on X102.3. Yet when it came to choosing a career, radio wasn’t his first choice. “I was a theater kid, one of those weirdos,” says Daniels, who now cohosts The Mo & Sally Show on Today’s KOOL 105.5 with Mo Foster and Sally Sevareid and is also the show’s producer. “I wanted to do something that involved entertainment, but since acting is notoriously hard to get into, I thought radio would be easier.”

Born and raised in Boynton Beach, Daniels graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in multimedia journalism in 2009. During his senior year of college, he was hired as a radio intern in the very same building where he works today. “One of my first experiences was helping Jason [Pennington, of The KVJ Show] do a bit where he was going to a Walgreens with a pig,” recalls Daniels. “I remember thinking, ‘What am I

involved with here, going to a store with a pig?!’ But I figured it was better than a desk job.” For the next few years, he worked in multiple positions for various iHeart stations before catching the attention of Foster and Sevareid. He joined The Mo & Sally Show full-time in 2016.

Weekday mornings, Daniels can be heard alongside the married couple, bringing a younger perspective to the show— and often playing “referee.” “It’s fun, but I’m very glad I’m single,” says Daniels, who describes himself and his cohosts as “the crazy cousins you keep at a distance but who entertain you.”

An avid fan of comic books and video games, Daniels can often be seen on West Palm Beach’s Clematis Street wearing a superhero T-shirt. He says he loves when listeners spot him and say hello, despite being lovingly dubbed “grumpy butt” by Foster. Says Daniels: “I am always down for someone to come up and say hi. I don’t want people to think I am unapproachable. I love people—in a prickly way.” @radiocurtisd (Instagram); 1055online.iheart.com

LAHTI

Afternoon drive on WiLD 95.5, midday on WAVE 92.7, and midday on 98.7 The Gator

Maegan Lahti has always loved being the center of attention. “I came out of the womb a ham,” she says. Lahti grew up in Toledo, Ohio, where she spent her childhood dancing, singing, and acting in local theater. After high school, she moved to Fort Pierce to attend the theater arts program at Indian River State College, graduating in 2010. As she tried to make it as an actress and model, she supported herself tending bar at Sailfish Marina Resort. She eventually landed a big contract as a fitness model for VPX Sports, but when the pandemic hit, Lahti lost the modeling contract—and her job at Sailfish, which temporarily shut its doors like many other restaurants.

In 2021, a fellow bartender who was also a radio personality on iHeart’s 92.1 Real Radio—Frannie Umpierre—encouraged Lahti to interview with the station. She was offered a spot on the station’s The Love Doctors show, before moving on to cohost On Call with Dano and Maegan with Daniel Russo. ”I was so nervous because I didn’t have a background in radio and I wanted the audience to like me,” recalls Lahti. “I very quickly fell in love with it.”

A year later, she moved to WiLD 95.5 to cohost the morning show with Carmine Gialanella—and the duo was a hit. “We were very authentic and relatable,” Lahti says of Carmine and Maegan in the Morning. “We were trying to say to the audience, ‘We’re just like you, or maybe just like your hot mess cousin.’” Much of the pair’s on-air banter was gleaned from their own lives, which could get a little sticky. “[My husband] Taylor has been embarrassed a couple of times,” Lahti says.

In January, after Gialenella was let go, Lahti was moved to the pop music station’s 2 to 7 p.m. afternoon drive time slot. She also hosts middays on new country station WAVE 92.7 and middays on rock station 98.7 The Gator. Asked how she handles three very different shows, she says: “I grew up in a very musically inclined family, so my ability to switch genres is fueled by my love of music.”

Looking toward the future, Lahti, who moved to St. Cloud in May, has some lofty goals. “I would like Ryan Seacrest to respectfully retire so I can take over his job,” she says. If that fails, she has a backup plan: “My goal is to have a tortoise sanctuary. People adopt them without realizing they live like 75 years.” @maeganspaghetti (Instagram); wild955.iheart. com; wave927.iheart.com; gatorrocks.iheart.com

GIALANELLA

Under Pressure podcast (and former cohost of Carmine and Maegan in the Morning on WiLD 95.5)

Growing up in New York, Carmine Gialanella thought his fate was sealed. “I lived in the Bronx for the first 20 years of my life, and I always figured I was going to work for [local energy company] Con Edison,” he says. “Every single person in my family and friend group followed that path. Nothing against my neighborhood, but nobody leaves.”

Gialanella was an exception to that rule. In 2007, his mom and future stepdad packed up the family and moved to Jupiter when Gialanella was 20 years old. At his mom’s suggestion, he took some classes at what was then Palm Beach Community College (now Palm Beach State College), but he wasn’t really sure what he wanted to do. One day, he heard an ad on the radio for the Connecticut School of Broadcasting and decided to enroll. “I was thinking about doing something in sports, but then I gravitated toward radio,” he says. “If I’m being totally honest, it was easier to get an internship in radio [than sports].”

After graduating from CSB in 2009, he interviewed with Mo Foster and Sally Sevareid from Today’s KOOL 105.5 and landed an internship—along with a new nickname. “During the interview, I mentioned that my mom calls me Pooky,” he recalls. Inevitably, Foster started referring to him as “Intern Pooky.” Says Gialanella: “That name stuck with me for a couple years.”

A few months later, he was hired part-time to operate sound and help with events—and eventually, he was given an on-air spot on WiLD 95.5’s overnight shift. He was moved to Saturdays, then nights, then weekdays.... And in 2021, he got his big break as the station’s morning show solo host.

A year later, Maegan Lahti joined as his cohost, and the duo’s witty banter was a hit with listeners. “We had great on-air chemistry,” Gialanella says of working with Lahti. “We would just talk about pop culture things and funny things that happened to us.” This past January, however, Gialanella was unexpectedly laid off from the station after 15 years as a popular on-air personality. “That was my insurrection day,” he says.

He took the job loss as an opportunity to pivot his career into the modern age of podcasting—and in April, he launched his Under Pressure podcast (available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube). “I wanted to do something where I could talk more, and people are consuming long-form content these days,” he says. On the show, Gialanella interviews notable locals, from business owners to wildlife advocates. “The podcast is about all walks of life and times when people have been under pressure and how they’ve dealt with that adversity,” he says.

New episodes of Under Pressure drop several times a week, and at press time in early June, Gialanella already had 20-plus episodes under his belt. Of course, the affable host brings his signature humor to the studio—but through all the laughs, he says he really enjoys getting to know his guests and sharing their stories. “You’ll look at somebody and feel like they have it all, but you didn’t see how they got there and the times they were so close to quitting,” Gialanella says. “If you care about something, keep pursuing it. Keep living your dream.”

And that seems to be exactly what Gialanella is doing. @carmineradio1 (Instagram); @underpressurepodcastcg (Instagram); underpressurepod.com ❖

FOOD | COCKTAILS | HOT SPOTS | LOCAL DINING

Chefs! YES,

This year, for the very first time, Michelin Guide inspectors came to Palm Beach County to scout culinary gems in the area. As any foodie (or fan of The Bear) knows, earning a Michelin Star is pretty much #goals for any serious chef—and it’s not an easy feat. Chefs don’t know if or when an inspector is coming to their restaurant, so if they hope to earn a star, they need to be at the top of their game every moment of every day.

At the Florida Michelin awards ceremony in April, a few local restaurants and chefs were honored with new stars and other recognitions. So who got a star? In the Palm Beaches, one restaurant earned that honor: Konro in West Palm Beach. But a few other local chefs and restaurants were honored with some distinctions as well.

Chef Jeremy Ford’s The Butcher’s Club at PGA National Resort was named a “recommended restaurant.” Chef Ford was also awarded the special Green Star for his sustainable efforts at Stubborn Seed in Miami. The trendy restaurant has had a Michelin Star for a few years now, but given all the amazing things Ford has been doing at Ford’s Farm (which we featured in our April issue), the Green Star is definitely merited. Stage Kitchen + Bar and Coolinary in Palm Beach Gardens also got the recommended restaurant nod—a much-deserved honor for both Chef Pushkar Marathe and Chef Tim Lipman.

Other area restaurants that were honored in 2025: aioli and Palm Beach Meats in West Palm Beach both earned a Bib Gourmand distinction; while Buccan in Palm Beach, Moody Tongue Sushi in West Palm Beach, and Nicholson Muir Distinguished Meats in Boynton Beach were named recommended restaurants. Congrats to all! —Michelle Lee Ribeiro

COVENTRY CAFE PAYS HOMAGE TO ITS LOCATION’S ORIGINS WHILE BRINGING

CULINARY ADVENTURE TO DOWNTOWN STUART

Carved into the courtyard of the storied Old Colorado Inn in downtown Stuart, Coventry Cafe opened in March as an upscale American restaurant catering to locals seeking happy hour refuge and foodies who want a “cheffy” experience. At Coventry—named for John Coventry, who built the original Coventry Hotel in 1914—Chef Doug Forgione and partners George Forgione and Josh Hornby aim to provide an approachable fine dining experience with a nod to Stuart’s roots.

The menu, purposefully brief and frequently updated to keep things fresh and seasonal, shows evidence of Chef Forgione’s cultural culinary influences. The self-identified nomad joined the U.S. Coast Guard at 19 and bounced between Florida and coastal New York.

cucumber salads, you name it.”

At Coventry Cafe, Forgione is especially proud of the Prince Edward Island mussels. Inspired by the dish khao soi—a coconut red curry from Chiang Mai in northern Thailand—the mussels feature a warm, spicy broth with pork belly, fried shallots, and cilantro and are served with crispy slices of ciabatta. Other menu highlights include the Laotian tuna tartare, shrimp toast, and vodka chicken Parmesan.

After his service, he moved to New York City, where he began his culinary career.

“My first job in culinary was at a Laotian restaurant in Tribeca called Khe-Yo,” he says. “I was on the mortar and pestle station, grinding spices, making papaya salads,

Forgione attended the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan before training under esteemed chefs such as Tom Colichio and Leah Cohen. Ultimately, he became executive chef at the Montauk Yacht Club in the Hamptons, where he met Josh Hornby, the visionary behind Coventry’s front of house. Together, with support from Forgione’s father, George, they fitted the open-air dining space with 8-foot-long banquets (constructed locally), palm frond palapas, and twinkling bistro lights, creating a quaint ambience in the courtyard.

The cocktail menu features fresh, tropical creations like the Stuart Spritz (St. Germain, lemon, mint, and prosecco), the If You Like Piña Colada (a twist on the classic beachside staple), and the Pick Me Up (espresso martini with Espolon reposado tequila and Kahlúa-blended espresso), as well as a thoughtful selection of wines and craft beers.

Coventry Cafe is open 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday; happy hour is available daily 3 to 6 p.m. with half-priced bar drinks. 211 S. Colorado Ave., Stuart; coventrycafestuart.com; 772.888.3518.❖

STAY COOL!

THE SEED COFFEE + JUICE BAR DEBUTS A REFRESHING MENU FOR SUMMER

As the temperature heats up, the menu is cooling down at The Seed Coffee + Juice Bar, which opened in Jupiter in December. If you haven’t yet been to The Seed, now’s the perfect time to pop in for a refreshing seasonal beverage.

The Orange Dreamsicle latte (or matcha) is reminiscent of an ice cream treat, combining orange and vanilla syrup topped with an orange cream cold foam. For a carnival in a cup, try the Cotton Candy matcha, which doubles down on the sweetness with cotton candy syrup, cold foam, and cotton candy–flavored sprinkles on top. Or celebrate National Piña Colada Day (July 10) with a matcha flavored with pineapple and coconut purée—the tropical treat “tastes like a vacation,” says The Seed operating partner Michael Cerda.

The creative staff of barista mixologists are always experimenting with new creations; no idea is too crazy to test out. “A lot of customers love our drinks because they are bright, vibrant—and very Instagrammable,” says Cerda. “Our

drinks look good, but they taste even better.”

The Seed was founded by South Florida native Carly Altier in 2014 in Boca Raton and has expanded over the years to include six locations, with Jupiter being the newest to open.

The design of each location speaks to its region. “In Jupiter, we went with a green espresso machine and light, airy, fun palm frond pendant lights,” Altier says. A disco ball hangs from the ceiling, while a mix of tropical, chill, and soft rock house beats play in the background.

The drip coffee, cold brew, and espresso are all made with Counter Culture Coffee, an iconic North Carolina–based brand known for its sustainability efforts. “We have a custom full-bloom blend,” says Cerda. “It’s got chocolaty, syrupy, fruity notes to it.” They also serve baked goods, salads, cream cheese–infused bagel bombs, breakfast sliders, breakfast burritos, and a fun acai bowl served in a carved-out pineapple and shaped like a smiley face that will surely boost your mood. 1695 W.
