Poetry 68

cobblestones hurt my feet marching up the ancient streets to a mountain side and long dead martyr

the church dim and dark the air still and calm an old lady prays

I sit two rows back from the left the light streams in on the saint martyred for the Lord his presence never changing always accepting

she stands up to leave stops and speaks to me I nod and smile, she smiles at me and leaves

alone I pray for the old lady the long dead, and the ones to come.
