Career Exploration Essay

Through the eventful Humphrey School DC career exploration trip last week, I've become a little more daring and my dreams have definitely expanded its' boundaries. Continuing this zeal and aspirations, I am excited to share that I will be joining the Legal team in the Governor's office as an Executive Assistant & Policy Aide to the General Counsel coming Monday. These past 10 months serving in Constituent Services have been a life changing learning experience and I look forward to working on my expanded responsibilities along side with some of the most amazing women I know.

My whole life I have always wanted to do something where people will remember me. I went threw millions of career choices before I came to the conclusion of a nurse. It's not something that will get me into History books, but its something where all the people I help will remember what I did to care for them or their loved ones. My mom went to school to become and RN, but dropped out when she became pregnant with me. After that story was told to me, I didn't want to be anything related to nursing. It wasn't until my step mom went to school to be LPN that I realized it would be possible for me to do. I saw how much happiness it gave her, and I want the same thing. It is a program that is based on the health career field, especially nursing. I have this course for three classes a day and it takes up most of my school day. These classes have given me invaluable information and training that will be very useful in my collage courses. My volunteer work at the Veterans Hospital will also help me with becoming a RN because it is sort of like on–the–job training. I get to experience working with patients, in a real hospital setting. My step mom has lots of her old nursing books from her LPN training. I frequently look into them to help me with my Diversified Health Occupations homework, and sometime just to see how something works, or is done. Everyone knows that health careers tend to make a decent amount of money, but according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, "the average amount of money that an RN makes is between $47,710 and $69,850" (Registered Nurses). You typically work about fifty to sixty hours a week, on a normal shift. Meaning, 7a.m. to 3p.m., 3 p.m. to11 p.m. and 11p.m–7a.m. During your shift you will have to treat patients, educate the patient on how to care for themselves properly, provide assistance and emotional support for the patients and the families of the patients, administer medication, provide rehabilitation, use medical machinery, record symptoms and medical history, as well as do follow up follow up records. I will be receiving a bachelor's in Business Administration with a minor in InternationalManagement. I am in the process of applying for a master's in Management and Organizational Behavior at Benedictine University. Upon graduating from CSUMB, I will be currently working for the Dollar Tree Store, Inc. as a cashier. I hope that after the training workshop for assistant manager, I will be accepted and train in the new Marina store at the end of the year. In the book What Color is your Parachute, I learned that I could go into a kind of rejection shock, if a promotion in not in the cards.[2] As he puts it, I would have to keep going and stay motivated, because I want full exposure of the knowledge and operations at the Dollar Tree. I am achieving most of this by interning this semester. Tammi Huntsman is the manager there and I am shadowing her as she performs skills of managing. Finding a career is a long process for some people, but it comes naturally to others. Everyone ponders about what they want to be when you're in kindergarten, when your imagination is running wild and every possibility is an actuality. I'm not limited, I can help elderly people who have problems from aging. Teenage athletes who dedicate themselves to their sport and injured themselves. I want the ability to help people who have been through an accident and help to rehabilitate them. I want them to feel safe with me and give them the attention and therapy they need. I don't want it to feel like a job, but as a reward or gift I can give to people. I have a system that I want to follow to reach my goal. First, I have to graduate from high school. I want to get my basics done first which should take about two years at Amarillo College. I have a plan A and a plan B. My first choice is to move in with my brother. Buy a house with him, and help pay the rent while I work at the same time. My plan B is to stay with my parents and drive to Dumas or to Amarillo to take my classes. I want to work at the same time so I can have the extra money to pay for my bills. I'm paying for my school myself, but I will very likely get help from my parents and my brother. I am also interested in both design and math and as I was researching a job that incorporated these two skills I came across civil engineering. Right now I have to decide which job path would be the best one to take, counseling or civil engineering. Through the research shown below, I received an overwhelming amount of information on every little detail of these jobs. There are a wide selection of specialties a person could go into with a bachelor's degree in psychology. These learning styles include; auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. By mastering and using as many learning styles as I can, I will make sure each student is able to get the most out of their learning experience. I understand that every child learns differently and understanding how to use different approaches in each lesson plan will benefit every student. Not only is it important to use different learning styles but I will also use different teaching styles during the curriculum. I have not fully decided on a career choice, but if you ask me I would pick nursing. I would choose nursing because of the many self rewarding tasks you can achieve while being a nurse. For example helping and tending to an elderly who has no strength to complete tasks anymore because of old age. Nursing is such a great career choice, I can see myself doing well within the career and also being financially stable because of good pay. Also another detail I noticed in being a nurse is how flexible your schedule can be. I believe that this career, nursing, would be something I would enjoy and be comfortable with. The military led me to L3 Communications with a job as a test technician where I was responsible for maintaining electromechanically pulsers and traveling across the nation testing many geographically separated locations.
