PROJECT

Our project was centred on biophilia, aiming to create vibrant, interactive spaces that integrate nature and foster community engagement. By prioritizing green infrastructure and sustainable design, we envisioned a lively environment that enhances people’s well-being and social interaction.

Our concept of Biophilia is rooted in the philosophy of harmonious coexistence between people and nature. Central to this vision is the idea of placemaking—creating spaces of meaningful connections to the environment and its history, while also establishing a vibrant identity for future generations.

At the entrance of the site, we envisioned a prominent sign that reads, "Love Port Credit." This design choice honours the historical and cultural significance of Port Credit while expressing a deep affection for the area. By incorporating a heart into the sign, we aimed to create a unifying landmark that resonates with both residents and visitors, enhancing its identity as a cherished destination— a "place to fall in love with."

THE ICONIC LIGHTHOUSE

Another highlight of our design is the iconic lighthouse tower. We aspire to create a striking, multifunctional structure that serves as a modern-day beacon and a visual anchor for the skyline. The red, towering design pays homage to the CN Tower in Toronto while celebrating Port Credit’s nautical heritage. Unlike the existing lighthouse, which is non-functional, our proposed structure is designed to be a fully operational lighthouse, reinforcing its utility and purpose within the urban landscape.

By integrating these features into our design, Biophilia not only enhances the site's connection to its heritage but also establishes a contemporary identity that will inspire pride and a sense of belonging for generations to come.

The natural environment is integral to Port Credit. The water and parkland informs lifestyles, community interaction and its urban fabric. However, there is a disconnect between the existing built environment on Port St and the modus operandi of its residents. Neighbourhood character will be celebrated through material, colour and public art, and permanent furniture will derive its character from the existing built environment to blur the edge between old and new.

THE JOURNEY

The layout of our project site was thoughtfully designed to create a seamless and immersive journey for visitors, reflecting our Biophilia philosophy of fostering harmony between people and nature. The journey begins with a prominent placemaking element —an iconic gateway that welcomes visitors and sets the tone for exploration. From here, the path leads to the lighthouse tower, a striking mixed-use structure that integrates a vibrant commercial zone at its base with residential units above. These residences offer unparalleled views of the surrounding landscape, reinforcing a strong connection to the place. The lighthouse also serves as a visual anchor, drawing people deeper into the site while enhancing the skyline.

Continuing along the journey, visitors are guided toward the Wave Promenade, an active public space designed for performances, social gatherings, and family connections. This promenade seamlessly transitions to the site’s southern tip, where a boutique hotel is strategically placed to support local businesses and attract tourism. Adjacent to the hotel, an expansive green open space offers a variety of recreational opportunities, catering to all age groups with accessible design principles. This park features stunning lake views, splash pads, picnic areas, and thoughtfully placed seating, creating an inclusive environment for relaxation and leisure. A continuous multi-use trail encircles the site, linking to the broader Port Credit Waterfront Trail, ensuring connectivity and reinforcing the site's role as a harmonious extension of the surrounding urban fabric.

PROJECT

This project is about the visualization and urban design of a residential connector street, focusing on Rathburn Road, Mississauga. I recently completed an in-depth street study and created 3-D urban designs, emphasizing elements such as scale, proportion, materiality, and the integration of physical and natural entities. My goal was to enhance the streetscape's functionality, aesthetics, and overall user experience.

THE SPIROGRAPH TOWERS

The design concept for the MNC Tower in Velachery, Chennai, draws inspiration from the geometry of a spirograph, emphasizing interlocking spaces that seamlessly balance individuality and cohesion. Each floor plate is meticulously planned to accommodate diverse office requirements, offering flexibility for varying team sizes and market demands. The floor layouts are unique yet anchored by a central core, enabling functional connectivity while allowing abundant natural light to cascade through the skylights, energizing the workspace. This dynamic interplay of light and space fosters a motivated and collaborative environment.

The design integrates private, semi-private, and semi-public zones, creating a harmonious and efficient work ecosystem. Thoughtful planning ensures close to zero unused spaces, mitigating risks of underutilization and enhancing security. Leveraging passive design principles like the stack effect, the building reduces energy consumption, making it environmentally responsive to Chennai's tropical coastal climate. This approach combines aesthetic ingenuity with functional excellence, optimizing the tower’s usability and leasing potential.

The stone-finished wall, standing 4.5 meters high with its irregular slope, is an artistic imitation of the lines found in nature. It mirrors the unique, free-flowing forms seen in all of nature's creations, from the micro to the macro level. This design adds an element of beauty and mystery, evoking the image of a colossal creature emerging in the wilderness. Its presence creates a captivating illusion intended to deter wild animals from approaching.

THE WALL

The WALL is a striking weekend cabin nestled in the heart of the forest, designed as a continuous zigzag structure that harmonizes with its natural surroundings. Each segment faces opposing directions, ensuring privacy while offering breathtaking forest views. The bold design not only creates a serene retreat but also serves a functional purpose—its imposing form deters wildlife at night, providing a secure yet tranquil stay immersed in nature. A true architectural marvel in the wilderness.
