A tough league fixture against Field saw Hood bounce back from the cup exit and play them off the park. Matthew Gould opened the scoring in the 1st minute, and Hood never looked back despite Field equalising against the run of play. Hood were having none of it and Jamie Lister restored Hood's lead after a build up involving several players. Dale Pickering made it 3 after sprinting nearly the full length of the pitch. Field weren't giving up and had a period of sustained pressure without any reward before Gould got his 2nd goal of the game near the end, glancing in a free kick.

Finally, a League Cup tie at home to Hartshead, who are currently 2nd in Division One. Hood were the better team, but Hartshead defended well and had a long ball tactic to try and catch Hood out.

Hood struggled to create many chances, but managed to get the all important goal mid way through the second half, thanks to Tommy Smith. Not great, but through to the quarter finals Hood go.

Rothwell in Bloom

is a group of just eight volunteers aiming to brighten up the main centre of Rothwell, working alongside Leeds Parks Department who look after Commercial Street and carry out extensive watering - when it's needed - and produce the hanging baskets. Rothwell in Bloom works for two hours on Thursday mornings, with a coffee break, and welcomes new members. If you or someone you know would be interested in joining in to bring colour to Rothwell please speak to one of the team when you see them in town.

Rothwell Competitive Music Festival

The programme for the 2017 Rothwell Competitive Music Festival will be on sale from Olwyn Fox 2000 in Commercial Street, Rothwell from the 10th March ready for the festival on Wednesday 22nd March at the Methodist Church, Butcher Lane, in the Blackburn Hall on Friday 24th March and Saturday 25th March. The programme will also be available on the door at the venues. The festival can be visited for a whole day or just for sections with classes for strings, choirs, brass solos and bands, piano, solo singers and woodwind. Audience members are always very welcome as they give competitors the opportunity to perform in public & it is good to hear the many gifted musicians from Rothwell and beyond.

Three very popular professional musicians will be adjudicating – listening to performances and giving constructive criticism to the players and singers. Rothwell is very fortunate to welcome Marilynne Davies, Jacqueline Edwards and Alan Fernie. All have been before and are very popular wherever they go.
