Senior Citizens’ Support Group Horbury, Ossett and Surrounding Areas

Would you like to get out and about more, meet new people, renew old friendships, try new things?……..are you 60 or over and live in West Wakefield ?

3 Peaks Challenge

Saturday 8th August 2015 Lofthouse Security Systems are arranging the 3 peaks challenge to raise funds for 2 local charities.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the full challenge or just complete one of the three peaks. This will be a great achievement and a day to remember. We will be organising transport and refreshments for after the walk.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk is a very demanding but rewarding walk, which takes in the summits of Pen-y-ghent (694 metres - 2,276 feet), Whernside (736 metres - 2,415 feet) and Ingleborough (723 metres 2,372 feet) all in one circular route. The walk is 24.5 miles (39.2km) long and takes in over 5,000 feet (1,600 metres) of climbing. The walking is over a variety of terrains, and even though the paths have been improved immensely over recent years, certain sections can still be very boggy and energy sapping.

By tradition, the walk must be completed within 12 hours for you to be able to join the "Three Peaks of Yorkshire Club", which was set up by Peter and Joyce Bayes. To be eligible for membership, you must book out and book in again at the Pen-y-ghent Café in Horton-inRibblesdale, If you complete the walk within 12 hours, and have used the antique clocking machine in the Café, you will be invited to join the "Three Peaks of Yorkshire Club", and purchase, inter alia, a Three Peaks badge and tie.

We raised over £5000 last time let’s see if we can beat it this year!!
