WAS IST HANT? WHAT IS HANT?
»HANT – Magazin für Fotografie« ist ein interdisziplinäres Projekt von Studierenden bzw. Alumni aus Weimar, Erfurt, Gera und Jena. Das Magazin soll eine Plattform für zeitgenössische fotografische Arbeiten von Menschen mit Bezug zu Thüringen bieten und die kreative Vielfalt über die Landesgrenzen hinaus repräsentieren. Entstanden ist das Projekt als Bachelor-Arbeit an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Grundlegender Gedanke war, unsere Begeisterung an der Fotografie mit Interessierten über die Institution hinaus zu teilen und dabei insbesondere MitstudentInnen zu motivieren, ihre Arbeiten einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit zu zeigen. Somit entsteht eine stetig wachsende Plattform für die Fotografie Mitteldeutschlands, die das künstlerische Potenzial Interessierter, Anfänger, Studierender und professioneller Fotografen verbindet.
“HANT – Magazin für Fotografie” is an interdisciplinary project of students and alumnis from Weimar, Erfurt, Gera and Jena. The magazine is supposed to offer a platform for contemporary photographic works of people with a connection to Thuringia and represent the creative variety across the borders of Thuringia. In the first place, the project was created as a bachelor thesis at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The basic thought was to share our enthusiasm about photography with people that are interested and especially to motivate our fellow students to show their works to a wider range of people. That is how a steady growing platform for photography in mid-Germany arose, combining people who are interested, beginners, students and professional photographers. — This is not a museum! Every issue of our magazine is dedicated to a specific topic that should give the reader something to think about and critically evaluate with regard to their personal lives.

Das Magazin selbst widmet sich mit jeder Ausgabe einer spezifischen Thematik, die zum Nachdenken anregen soll und zur kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit der eigenen Lebenswelt motiviert. Begleitet werden die Fotografien von unterschiedlichen, frei wählbaren Textformen. Durch das Nebeneinander von Bild und Text entstehen Assoziationsräume, die einen neuen, frischen Blick auf die Leitproblematik erlauben. Die vierte Ausgabe wird am 30. Oktober unter dem Titel: »Schöne neue Welt« erscheinen und zu einem großen Teil live während der Academy (Stand B060, Halle 9.1) entstehen.

HANT AUF DER PHOTOKINA HANT AT THE PHOTOKINA
Die photokina academy steht in diesem Jahr unter dem Leitthema »Living Conditions – Future Visions«. Das Messethema trifft direkt ins Herz des Magazin-Projektes HANT. Bezogen auf unser Projekt verstehen wir unter »living conditions« maßgeblich das Umfeld, in dem wir uns regional bewegen. Wir sehen großes künstlerisches Potential in Thüringen. Jedoch sind die einzelnen Akteure oftmals im Verborgenen, agieren noch nicht vernetzt. Gemäß unserer »Future Vision« wollen wir einen Beitrag dazu leisten, die verschiedenen Künstler und Künstlerinnen über eine Plattform des Austauschs und der Partizipation zusammen zu bringen. Dass dieses Konzept funktioniert, haben die drei bereits veröffentlichten HANT-Ausgaben und das große öffentliche Interesse an unserem Projekt bewiesen. Ausgezeichnet wurde unser Engagement in diesem Jahr mit dem Bildungspreis der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Photographie (DGPh). Das Plattform-Konzept findet sich in der Gestaltung des Messestandes wieder: Neben den Bildern von FotografInnen, die Teil der Magazine sind, laden wir Künstler und Studierende der anderen ausstellenden Universitäten ein, ihr Projekt und die Werke in einer eigenen Rubrik der neuen Ausgabe von »HANT – Magazin für Fotografie« zu veröffentlichen. Außerdem soll das Publikum vor Ort ebenfalls Teil unseres Projektes werden. Dies geschieht in Form eines offenen Workspaces, in dem wir an unserem Heft arbeiten und somit exklusive Einblicke für alle Interessierten bieten.
This year’s topic of the photokina academy is called “Living Conditions – Future Visions”. The topic of the fair is directly linked to the magazine-project HANT. Referring to our project, we understand “Living Conditions” as our regional environment. We believe that Thuringia has a great artistic potential. The problem is that the individual actors are often unseen and are not networked. In accordance with our “Future Vision”, we would like to bring together different artists and thereby create a platform for exchange and participation. The three issues of the HANT-Magazine that were published and the great intererest of the public have proven that our concept is efficient. Our engagement was being honoured with the “Bildungspreis” of the “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Fotografie” (DGPh). This plaform reoccurs in the design of our mass stand: Next to the work of photographers that are part of our magazine, we invite artists and students of the other exhibiting universities to publish their projects and works in an extra column of the new edition of “HANT – Magazin für Fotografie”. Also, the audience at the photokina is invited to become a part of our project. That is going to take place by providing open workspaces in which we would like to work on our magazine and thereby offer some exclusive insights for all people that are interested.

Die Ausstellung unseres Standes eröffnet durch zwei Bilder von Patrick Martin, die das Messethema »Living Conditions – Future Visions« repräsentieren: Wir sehen selbstgeschaffene Landschaftsbilder einer digitalen Welt. Übertragen auf Thüringen stehen diese symbolhaft für den Spannungsraum, der sich zwischen der traditionsreichen, historischen Umgebung und dem Anspruch an Teilhabe und Gestaltung der eigenen Lebenswelt, entspinnt. Die Hauptwand vermittelt die Ruhe und Versunkenheit, die Thüringen ausstrahlt und somit ein Spiegel unserer Bedingungen ist. Der rechte Flügel setzt sich mit Werten, Traditionen und Familie auseinander. Sie sind gleichzeitig Anker wie auch Ballast. Der linke Flügel vereint Religion und Werte, zeigt aber auch Indizien des Ausbruchs. Beide Stränge bewegen sich auf die Mitte zu, deren zentrale Bilder einen Ausblick eröffnen und in sich den Wunsch nach Veränderung sowie die Sehnsucht nach dem Anderen bergen.

Durch die Spiegelung ihrer Positionen zu einander, entfacht sich zwischen den Bildern ein Diskurs: So kommt zum Beispiel ein Familienportrait, welches durch ein farbiges Quadrat aufgerissen wird, mit einem extrovertierten jungen Mann in einer Papst-Robe in Berührung. Daraus könnte sich eine Narration entspinnen: Denn die familiäre Prägung stellt meist den ersten Kontakt mit der Thematik Religion und der kirchlichen Institution dar. Auch in Thüringen spielt die religiöse Vorprägung eine Rolle. Ebenso wichtig ist jedoch auch der Drang des Ausbruchs, des Hinterfragens und der Anzweiflung einer solch vorgegebenen Struktur, was sich wiederrum im Erscheinungsbild des jungen Mannes zeigt.

Transferred to Thuringia these photos symbolize an area of tension that is developed between tradition and the need to take part and the creation in one’s own world. The main wall symbolizes the calm and submergedness that Thuringia radiates and thus, it becomes a mirror of our terms and conditions. The right wing tackles values, traditions and family matters. They are anchor and ballast at the same time. The left wing combines religion and values but also shows evidence of emancipation and escape. Both wings move towards the middle, whose central images are providing an outlook and carry the wish for change and the longing for something else.

That could be the beginning of a narration: The familiar striking establishes the first contact with the issue of religion and the ecclesiastical institution. The ecclesiastical striking plays a role in Thuringia. The need to break-free and question of this kind of structure is just as important, which is shown by the image of the young man. — Stories are being told. Do you see them?

WAS MACHT FOTOINIT E.V.? WHAT IS FOTOINIT E.V. DOING?
Seit 2012 arbeiten sieben StudentInnen und Alumnis ehrenamtlich an einer Thüringer Initiative für Fotografie. Der FOTOINIT e.V. setzt seinen Schwerpunkt auf die nachhaltige Förderung und Präsentation fotografischer Vielfalt unserer Region. Da es bisher weder Netzwerke für junge Fotografie gibt und die Akteure kaum in der Öffentlichkeit wahrgenommen werden, setzt sich der Verein dafür ein, der kargen Thüringer Fotografielandschaft ein Gesicht zu verleihen und sie zu beleben.
Since 2012, there are seven students and alumnis from universities of Jena, Weimar and Erfurt who are working honorary at a Thuringian initiative for photography. The FOTOINIT e.V. puts a main emphasis on the sustained promotion and presentation of photographic diversity of our region. Since there exist no networks for young photography and the actors are barely getting noticed in public, our association is trying to make the Thuringian photography landscape more noticeable and more lively.

Dafür gilt es, eine lebendige Infrastruktur herzustellen. Durch verschiedene Angebote zur Weiterbildung oder der Veröffentlichung eigener Arbeiten erhalten Fotografieinteressierte vielfältige Möglichkeiten, die Fotografieszene Thüringens mitzugestalten. Neben der halbjährlichen Herausgabe von »HANT – Magazin für Fotografie« organisieren wir Lectures, Workshops sowie Ausstellungen. Durch unsere Veranstaltungen wird ein lebendiges Netzwerk an Mitwirkenden aufgebaut, welches Wissen kompetent vermittelt. Gleichzeitig repräsentiert diese Plattform unsere Region und über die Grenzen des Bundeslandes hinaus Thüringen als kreativen Standort.

By offering different ways of further training or by enabling people that are interested in photography to publish their work, we create many possibilities to shape Thuringian photographic scene. Not only do we publish a new issue of our magazine every six months but also do we organize lectures, workshops and exhibitions. By having different events, there is a growing network of participants that competently convey their knowledge. At the same time the platform represents not only our region but also Thuringia as a creative location.
