Rene Caisse's Battle for a Cure – ESSIAC By Paul McLennan

Rene Caisse, of Bracebridge, Ontario, was a powerful force in the battle against cancer for many years. Her achievement in that battle continues on and keeps growing through her friends and countless others that she has inspired, long after her death in 1978. Through her courage, determination and resilience in her battle, despite the persecution she suffered from the opposing forces in the medical world, she made a massive contribution to the development of Western Herbalism as we know it today. Her Aunt had a miraculous recovery, and Dr. Fisher was fascinated with the outcome. He even let Rene treat some of his terminal cancer cases, with much success. Rene started a laboratory in her mother's basement, where she tested the herbal decoction on mice, under the supervision of Dr. Fisher and other doctors. Rene successfully stopped the growth of human cancer in the mice within 10 days. During this time, she narrowed the formula down to four herbs. For many years, she kept the formula secret, but called it Essiac, her
