ast year was a busy time for Texas school boards, busy in a way that Conservative folks should be concerned about. Of course, they would have to wake up first and actually notice that we have more than a few school boards in our special red state that are supporting extreme un-Christian, liberal causes in the name of “tolerance and inclusiveness.”

In case you haven’t thought about it much, Texas school districts are each overseen by a local Board of Trustees consisting of elected unpaid volunteers. Those are the candidates on your ballot that many Conservatives, when they do us the favor of turning out to vote, rarely know about because they

haven’t taken the time to become informed. So they skip over that section, which is why so few votes are involved, thus making a way for liberals who ARE informed to come in and take over our school boards.

If you step back and look at this for a moment, Texas Conservatives are demonstrating that our children and grandchildren are not important enough to find out about the people who are willing to take on School Board responsibility and not get paid. Who are they and what do they stand for?

Trump the Pro-life President

E

ver since the abomination of Roe V. Wade unleashed a holocaust of death upon America those of us who value life have prayed for a leader who could and would do what they should. Back in 1973 when the Burger Court turned the Constitution on its head by discovering a constitutional right to kill the unborn, then President Nixon didn’t even make a public statement.

Privately he said that in some instances abortion was necessary.

Since then we’ve elected several presidents who said publicly that they were prolife: Reagan, George I, and George II. All three took some steps to restrict federal funding for abortion and made public statements condemning abortion and boosting the pro-life cause.

All three gave taped addresses to the massive annual Right-to-life march in Washington filled with values and voters.

Of course, since the slaughter of the innocents gained the federal stamp of approval, we’ve had every Democrat candidate champion the freedom to choose death. And we’ve had two who made it to the White House: Clinton and Obama. Once there, they both proudly opened the spigot from the Treasury to the abortion mills forcing all taxpayers to pour billions into the industrial-scale elimination of generations of Americans.

Then came Trump.

Unlike other politicians who tell us what we want to hear and then forget what they said until they need our votes again, President Trump works daily to fulfill his campaign pledges. Many pro-life people worked hard to elect President Trump. That hard work has paid off for the pro-life movement and the unborn! Here are just some of the pro-life accomplishments of President Trump and his Administration.

One vital pledge he continues to make a reality is his oft-repeated pledge to only appoint pro-life Justices to the Supreme Court. So far, he’s appointed Justices Neil Gorsuch and Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Both are constitutional originalists who believe in the sanctity of life. In addition, President Trump nominated another 180 prolife federal judges on the Circuit and District courts. Thanks to the failure of President Obama to fill open seats and President Trump’s untiring efforts to do his job this is more than any other President has done at this point in his first term.

Another promise repeatedly made by other Republican presidents but only half-heartedly kept, President Trump follows through in a big way depriving the abortion industry of billions of dollars. This is Trump’s three-pronged assault on the money the abortionists earn from their industrial-scale destruction of life. First, the Donald signed legislation permitting states to

defund Planned Parenthood of Title X family planning. Second, he issued an Executive Order giving states the option to withhold Medicaid and other federal money from organizations that perform abortions, including Planned

BLOCKING THEIR OWN SHOTS!

Dems sabotage their own agenda by obsessing over impeachment.

he GOP never dreamed they would have it so easy. Just over one year ago, there was genuine concern that with a Democrat majority, some awful policies might get advanced which would threaten the liberty of everyday Americans.

But instead, Pelosi’s Democrats opted to send all their arrows to a straw man target and impeach the President.

When we look at how effective Pelosi and her Squad have been since they claimed the majority, we come up empty - they have advanced no significant policy without immeasurable pressure from Republicans, as in the case of the USMCA. Even the recently passed budget, while atrocious in size, simply offers more of the same. Conservatives are stuck criticizing the Left over the new age limit to purchase tobacco products. It is a fair criticism, but, back in January, Republicans believed

the House would be deliberating and debating far more weighty issues, and Republicans were worried. And yet the most substantial policy they’ve implemented is a Republican trade agreement to replace NAFTA - Democrats have proposed nothing more than a Nanny State Cigarette bill.

The Democrat majority has spent their session embroiled in a Kangaroo Court, wasting time and resources in a pointless display while at the same time neglecting the job they were sent there to do. And Republicans are relieved! Less legislation equals more liberty, more freedom, fewer tax hikes, freer trade, more opportunity.

When Democratic members of Congress return home to face their constituents, they will have no answer when their district asks them what they have done for their communities.

They’ve delivered empty promises and sold out their ideals to doggedly pursue the head of our Commander in Chief.

Voters have been left hanging, and they will not forget that the folks they selected to represent them exchanged their obligations for their impulses.

What’s more, impeachment historically tends to backfire. President Clinton is our most recent case study. Clinton’s impeachment hearings gripped the country, the media, and the Legislature

just as completely then as now. It dominated headlines then just like it does now. Yet the Clintons did not duck out in humiliation when the President was impeached. Bill Clinton served out his term, and of course, Hillary began her own prominent political career, carrying out his patchy legacy. Impeachment did not accomplish much, besides a couple of sordid lines in US History textbooks.

Now, Democrats attempt to use impeachment to bring down another president, but President Trump’s legacy will also remain whole. Americans continue to enjoy immense prosperity: the Dow is smashing records on the regular, and Wall Street hasn’t so much as batted an eye during the entire impeachment charade. Unemployment is at historic lows. Opportunity for all Americans has never been more abundant. Locally, the Texas Miracle continues, and the Great State of Texas continues to dominate as the 10th largest economy in the world. Texas is poised to re-elect President Trump and will likely do so by a significant margin.

Impeachment has not and will not affect President Trump’s prospects for re-election. And voters know it. If anything, it emboldens his supporters and steels the GOP. It has been an immense boon for fundraising; when the house took the vote to impeach, the President’s war chests took in $5 million in donations in just one day alone. Perhaps the greatest fallout is that Democrats have lost a member of the House as a result of the impeachment. Representative Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey broke ranks and voted against impeachment and plans to switch to the Republican Party. The GOP welcomes all who feel the same to join conservatives and get involved, and many are. Fundraising, volunteer signups, engagement, voter registration, etc. are all on the rise.

Alexander Hamilton, who was not a Republican but was nevertheless an insightful statesman, offered up this wisdom: “[Impeachment] will seldom fail to agitate the passions of the whole community, and to divide it into parties more or less friendly or inimical to the accused. In many cases it will connect itself with the pre-existing factions, and will enlist all their animosities, partialities, influence, and interest on one side or on the other; and in such cases there will always be the greatest danger that the decision will be regulated more by the comparative strength of parties, than by the real demonstrations of innocence or guilt.”

Such prescient thoughts. As Hamilton eloquently predicted, we will leave this mess even more polarized and divided, but Republicans are ready to win in 2020. Trump supporters are on fire, and more are joining the cause every day.

Pelosi and The Squad have fatally miscalculated. The left side of the aisle has overplayed their hand of ideals, rendering the electorate tired of the same old socialist tropes we’ve heard in the past and for which we have no appetite to begin with.

Democrats are blocking their own shots and may very well end up scoring for Republicans in 2020.

Conundrums!

T he definition of the word conundrum is something that is puzzling or confusing. Here are four conundrums of socialism in the United States of America we are living in: America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other Countries only dream about. They have things that people in other countries only dream about. Yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

We are advised to NOT judge

ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics. But we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.

Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. But we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money. What’s interesting is the first group worked for their money, but the second didn’t.

Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, we have thousands of homeless Veterans, and the left wants to cut funding to our brave military. Yet, they want to increase payments and benefits to illegal aliens who’ve giving NOTHING to this country.

The Future of Conservatism and Legislating Morality

A

lthough the minority, conservatism among the youth has sparked multiple movements that have surged during the Trump presidency. But as issues arise as it pertains to morality, philosophies of conservatism are often lost to its libertarian counterpart.

As a millennial, I’ve seen the young generations struggle with confronting social issues and the culture war through the principles of conservatism.

Not because conservatism bears no merit but because the winning strategy is viewed as a hands-off one.

Drugs? No government. Prostitution?

No government. Pornography? No government. Rather than addressing these moral dilemmas with a conservative lens, they are defaulted to the libertarian stance in an attempt to sound reasonable and gain support from moderates and left of center thinkers.

A generation is being brought up believing morality has absolutely no place in legislation. This is not a conservative stance. It’s not even a liberal one. All you hear on the Democratic debate stage and the House floor are moral appeals to healthcare, wealth distribution, climate change, and abortion.

A major difference between conservatism and libertarianism is how we view

rule of law and morality.

Libertarians and many modern “conservatives” argue that morality in government is inevitably a theocracy.

This is merely another instance where nuance is punched square in the face when it rears its inconvenient head.

This type of all or nothing mindset to moral legislation is completely oblivious to the fact that Western culture along with America’s founding and current system operates under a moral code. We are not a theocracy, nor should we be, but we use moral discretion when it comes to the gradations of governing various areas of life.

We are constantly legislating on the basis of moral guidelines. We have obscenity laws, we have age limits on certain goods and services, and murder and theft are examples of illegality based on immoral behavior. To pretend that government has no authority or purview to regulate on the grounds of morality is not only baseless but counterintuitive to creating a just society. Moral law has been a cornerstone of the American founding and continues to be a vital part in self-governance.

As a people of self-governance, we are always riding the line of moral regulation and individual liberty. That line must be preserved. You cannot have a society with complete top down moral control just as you cannot have

a society consumed by anarchy. The immoral shortfalls of man do have consequences to the collective; legislation is always determining the cost benefit ratio of immoral action and freedom. Yes, this is dicey territory.

It’s the same argument used to advocate for hate speech laws. However, the cost of “hate speech” does not outweigh the benefits of unregulated speech. People’s feelings are not of dire consequence.

On the other hand, you have laws that prohibit obscene acts in public. This is because the cost to the collective that is using a public space in which the immoral behavior is displayed does in fact outweigh the benefit or “right” of that person to enact said obscene behavior. Morality in governance is a practice of measurement and nuance.

Without legislating morality, the common good suffers.

I can already hear the objections now – “But common good and morality are subjective. Many radical policies are advocated for the ‘common good.’”

A simple yet effective rebuttal to this argument is that if universal good and morality were purely subjective, neither would exist. Yes, there are people who impose their own subjective viewpoint when it comes to the common good and morality, but this does not negate the fact that objective morality

does indeed exist. Again, we legislate morality all the time that is not inhibited by an arbitrary standard. For instance, the President recently signed a bill making animal cruelty a federal crime (whether it should be a federal crime or not is beside the point that we all think harming animals is morally abhorrent).

Conservatives and liberals alike accept that morality plays a role in governance to an extent. No one is advocating for a theocracy, but our differences do lie with our cost benefit analysis of common good and moral behavior. Conservative philosophy aims to extend individual liberty as much as humanly possible while limiting immoral behavior that leads to unignorable adverse consequences to society at large. There is no conservatism without social conservatism. One cannot ignore the traditional moral values that built our nation along with the principles of the Constitution we have promised to conserve.

Trading in the moral and social aspects of conservatism for libertarian leanings in order to create a more appealing modern “conservatism” for the misguided sense of inclusion and convenience is a mistake. Morality in government has a time and a place in order to establish a society of decency that also allows liberty to thrive. The day that the new generation of conservatives refuses to uphold the moral convictions of the ideology in which they claim homage to is the day true conservatism dies.

Experience, Faith, & Integrity Counts

M

any undertakings fit the definition of selfless service. Self less service is giving of oneself, taking risks, leaving home and traveling to foreign lands while suffering separation from family, doing so for little recompense and feeling the pride that comes from being counted among the 1% of Americans who form the Band of Brothers.

The undertaking of which this writer speaks is Military Service.

My name is Ysidro Gutierrez. I served Honorably in the US Army for 20 years and did so without apology or regret. Although the men and women in my unit suffered physical

hardship and sacrificed much, I look back fondly at the days I stood on the front lines of defense of our Nation and our way of life; I’m confident my fellow GI’s feel the same. The old adage comes to mind, “We face the enemy with our backs towards our homeland, not because we hate what is before us, but because we love what is behind us.”

Every GI I served with was ready and willing to sacrifice his or her life for America. We didn’t want to die.

All of us want to live and return home to our loved ones. But we were always focused on our mission, our duty and our responsibility to the Nation and to each other.

I returned home to Lubbock after 20 years in top physical shape but, with unseen effects of loud booms and bangs. I returned home with my

hearing practically gone. Hearing loss it seems is very common to the men and women who serve. This is just one of the sacrifices of which I write There were many discomforts too.

One night I was awoken from a deep sleep by wolves scrounging around outside my tent. Another time raccoons right next to my cot got into a scrape with each other over my cookies. If you have ever been awoken from a deep sleep by hissing raccoons, you know of which I speak.

Twice I almost accidentally got shot by my fellow GI standing about 10 feet from me, as his M16A1 discharged due to carelessness. And, once a Grenade exploded about 10 feet from me.

Fortunately, I was able to duck into a very shallow trench as the grenade exploded.

There was the time we had breakfast

in a sandstorm. Have you ever chowed down on gritty eggs? Another time we spend 8 days in minus 40-degree weather that was wracked with winter ice and wind. It never did warm up.

the way one can hold Jello.

It seems hard to imagine that one would find “reward” in many challenges and sacrifice of serving others and serving your country, but I do indeed look back at all those experiences with genuine fondness and gratitude for the experience.

I retired in 1991 from the US Army.

That year I enrolled at Texas Tech University where I earned an MBA Degree. I took a consulting job that paid very well. When that job ended, I found myself looking for ways to once again serve my community in a fashion similar to the Military Service; although nothing can compare with the fun, travel, and adventure of the US Army. Except perhaps… politics.

So, I turned to politics.

I ran for and was elected to the office of Lubbock County Commissioner and served from 2005 to 2008, a full 4-year term.

This election season I’m asking Precinct 3 Voters to elect me once again to the same elected office. I know how to set the budget, reduce the tax rate and fund the many departments; I understand Finance.

There will be no learning curve for me. I’m ready to go to work for you on day one!

My message to Precinct 3 voters is, “Experience Counts, Faith, and Integrity Counts”. I humbly ask you to vote for me, Ysidro Gutierrez, for Lubbock County Commissioner, Precinct 3.

The Constitution is Alive

I

am Douglas H. Freitag and I’m seeking election as the next Judge of the 140th District Court of Lubbock County, Texas.

I came to know Jesus Christ, as my personal Lord and Savior, in early 2002, and it was that same year that I married my wife, Bethann. The Lord has blessed us with three very active sons, Landon (age 11), Kaden (age 10), and Mason (age 8). Our boys are being raised to know God (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit), to respect others, and to understand the standards that God has set for their lives. They love youth sports, and you will find our family at football fields, basketball courts, and baseball diamonds, on almost any Monday thru

Saturday of any given week.

When I’m not getting out to meet people, as a part of seeking election, or watching one (or more) of our boys participating in a sporting or school event, I run my own private law practice which I began in 2010. I practice in the areas of criminal defense, adoptions (the happiest thing I ever get to do in the law), probate and estate matters, business matters, and some family law.

Bethann and I are choosing to raise our boys in a smaller school district.

We enjoy the beauty of the sunrises and sunsets, we get to see every day, from our house in the northwest part of the county. Our boys love playing outside, and sometimes think we are too strict, since they do not have a Play Station, an X-Box, a Wii, or any other video game system hooked up to the television. They also seem to think

that they are missing out without cable television to watch, but we continue to assure them that they are getting to live a life that many others will not ever get to experience.

I was raised in a small central Texas community where I received my entire non-college education, from kindergarten to high school graduation. It is our plan for our boys to do the same.

When I was in the first grade, my dad bought a local shirt laundry and dry cleaners. This meant that I had a permanent job, anytime I wanted one (and a lot of times when I might not have wanted one). Dad taught me the value of hard work and customer service day after day, in the business.

At one time, he had what must have been close to 20 employees. He brought in laundry from other peoples’ stores from about a 30-mile radius. Many

of the days were long and hard, but there was a satisfaction in dealing with customers, and knowing that we were putting out a quality product that they appreciated. It was also during this time that I learned to be fiscally responsible and had small town values instilled in me.

Fascism is Left Wing Socialism

Liberty and personal responsibility are on the Political Right.

Fascism and Marxism are the two primary forms of Socialism, but for decades the Left has told the lie that Fascism is on the Political Right.

Fascists pursue government control of the economy, the people, and everything else. Since Fascism is statist, and those on the Political Right embrace personal freedom and responsibility, Fascism has no logical relationship to the Conservative ideology of the Political Right.

Conservatives support a small federal government, as our original Constitution mandates that there be little power in our federal government. We Conservatives want power to reside with the American

“Nazism” was “National Socialism” and arose from the “National German Workers’ Party” and later became the “National Socialist German Workers’ Party.” Such words have not been used to identify those political ideologies that exist on the Political Right.

Crony Fascism is the economic model President Barack Obama used during his time as President. Obama’s economic intentions were based on his goal of redistributing our tax money to his cronies and his financial supporters.

Barack Obama was foundationally a Marxist and wanted government to eventually own and control everything. However, Obama used a Fascist economic model, as he took money and power from the people and from private businesses. Obama controlled the businesses while allowing much of business ownership to remain private.

The Small Business Administration estimated that government regulations took $1.75 trillion each year from businesses while Obama was in office. This government theft accounted for many lost jobs, lost innovation, and lost growth.

The Political Left can claim all it wants that Fascism is not what they support and was not Obama’s political economic model. Their repetitive claims do not make it so.

question is simply, yes. The Constitution is “dead, dead, dead” in that it isn’t growing or changing. It says what is says, nothing more, and nothing less. The Constitution is alive, in that it is the basis for our country, and our Republic will cease to exist, once that basis is removed.

I

am running for Lubbock County Precinct 1 County Commissioner in the March 3, 2020, Republican Primary. I am running because it’s time to put Lubbock County on strong financial footing while funding priorities that make our neighborhoods safe.

With a focus on public safety, roads, and the lowest tax rate possible, I have the public finance experience, expertise, and education that Lubbock County desperately needs to get on strong financial footing.

I’ve lived and worked in Lubbock County for the past 15 years and have had the privilege of serving as Lubbock’s City Manager and as CFO from

2004 to 2013. Until this past fall when I announced my intention to run for County Commissioner, I had worked as the Finance Manager for Lubbock County’s Tax Assessor-Collector Ronnie Keister. I’ve had an up-close view of county operations and financial results.

In my work with the City, I developed long term funding strategies for all water, wastewater, roads, landfill, and stormwater capital projects. These projects included the Lake Alan Henry pipeline, new water treatment plant, water rights acquisition from Boone Pickens in Roberts County, Milwaukee Gateway Streets program, Tom Martin Youth Sports Complex and other Little League fields, three fire stations, and North Overton

redevelopment with a signature hotel and conference center. All of this was accomplished during the worst recession this nation has seen since the Great Depression.

I initiated the 311 Customer Call Center and coordinated emergency support with all community leaders and officials for the arrival of the Hurricane Katrina evacuees in 2005.

My campaign is based upon my 30 plus years’ commitment to financial integrity and resource management in state and local government. It is my strong belief that elected and appointed officials must be willing to communicate in detail about how they plan to spend taxpayer dollars and to heed taxpayer wishes. It goes without saying that no one wants to pay MORE

to Lubbock County and that taxpayers expect their hard-earned tax dollars to be spent prudently.

It is time for new ideas and financial expertise on the Commissioners Court.

decline in operating reserves that has occurred over the last five years because of decisions made on the Medical Examiner’s office, $6 million spent on new voting machines, and nearly $9 million spent on technology replacements (while still paying the current vendor). Unrestricted reserves have declined to $13.6 million (September 30, 2018) from $38.5 million.

Here are a few facts that prove out what Senator Perry and Representatives Burrows and Frullo have been saying about local government taxes.

In 2004 the County Assessed Value was $9 billion; today it is $22.6 billion, an increase of 2.5Xs. At the same time, property and sales taxes have grown from $38 million to over $92 million, and that is 2.5Xs more revenue for Lubbock County. With this kind of economic expansion, how can operating reserves possibly drop to 1/5 of what they were in 2015?

The most important service provided by Lubbock County is public safety.

Here are some alarming numbers for the High-Intensity Drug Traffic Area for the first 11 months of this past fiscal year.

•744 kilos of marijuana had been seized, as well as 45 kilos of meth, 23 kilos of cocaine, and 8 kilos of heroin.

•The Sheriff had a jail population that reached 1,357 over the Christmas holidays.

•In 2017 there were 60 documented gangs with 891 members, and now there are 73 documented gangs with 1,438 members.

•Four cartels operate in this county.

Our Sheriff is aggressively fighting for our families’ safety. Each Commissioner’s job is to support our elected Sheriff and to provide him the necessary resources to protect our community. But during each budget cycle, ill-conceived spending decisions are made to the detriment of Lubbock County’s public safety

COMMENTARY operations. The Juvenile Justice system facilities are also at capacity and lack the educational facilities required to help turn these kids around. I can’t fathom why this isn’t the #1 priority every single day.

Solid financial decisions lead to solid financial results. Like you, I’m tired of watching backdoor deals and secret squirrel budgeting. I’m for honest and forthright business decisions made in the light of day.

It’s time for the Court to have a Commissioner with strong public finance, budgeting, and analysis expertise who can implement an improvement strategy that is NOT financially harmful to the taxpayers.

Today’s Political Correctness and Our Founders

oday’s Political Correctness is of ten at odds w ith ou r Founder’s writings. When the supreme court rules against a Founding Principle, they are attacking the Constitution and doing so illegally. We the People are “sovereign” not the congress or the courts.

Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States, said, “The people are the masters of both congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert it.”

Benjamin Rush, a founder of our public schools, said, “If we do not teach the Bible in schools to our children, we will spend their later years incarcerating them.”

Both removing the Bible from schools and teaching that the court has the final say, go against our Constitution. This nation is a Constitutional Republic as stated in our Constitution, which says we are guaranteed a Republican form of government. In a democracy where majority rules all the time, a simple majority can become MOB RULE. A Constitution sets boundaries for both government and the people governed by it. Since the 1960’s that has been seriously eroded by our courts and liberal democrats, putting group-think ahead of the individual. In a Republic, individuals have the power to live life as they see fit, with as little government interference as possible, plus they can defend themselves with privately owned guns.

The liberal idea that “diversity” is why we became great, is wrong.

We became great because many diverse people wanted liberty and were willing to give up their differences and become American to achieve that goal. “E PLURIBUS UNUM” translates to “Out of many – One.” People from many nations with many different languages, histories,

and governments must assimilate into one America, if our system is to survive.

We are called “The grand experiment” and “A melting pot” because no system of government ever put its people in charge. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Mason, and others believed it could work, if the society was a moral one. That is why God is mentioned all through the debates, but liberals want to divide us by race, color, religion, and even sex, which they say one can change. REALLY? To be technically accurate, we are not a Christian nation, because our First Amendment says we can’t make any religion the State Religion.

However, any close look at what our founders had in mind as it relates to morality, the teachings of Christ is obvious. Christmas and Easter are government holidays as declared by our congress, and those are Christian. Christian means Christ like.

Christmas is broken into Christ Mas or the celebration of Christ. Easter celebrates the resurrection of Christ, so both are government sanctioned Christian holidays. With Thanksgiving a government holiday, we have it also as a celebration of the

good God has given us. In recent years some have taken the Christian God out and inserted whatever god they want, and in America, that is okay. However, it deviates from the original Thanksgiving deity praised by our Founders.

So much twisting of the meaning of words in our Constitution has occurred, many have trouble with basic understanding of ideas in a sentence.

Liberals say we have three equal branches of government, which is not true. If they are equal why does our Constitution say congress can make EXCEPTIONS and REGULATIONS, the court must obey? When the supreme court rules on a case it is not law, because only congress can make law Constitutionally. When liberal democrats say Roe v Wade is the law of the land, they are wrong…it is a ruling.

Being politically correct causes strange errors, like Roe v Wade not being law as liberals say, causing confusion. Democrats have been after Trump since before he was elected because he knows they have been illegally making law from the bench.

That is why they must remove him before he appoints another conservative judge to the supreme court.

The court is where liberal power is based, because their laws can’t pass congress.

That might explain why they are so mad!

Outsider’s Perspective: Enter the Empire

D

uring the winter break, I decided to spend some time watching the original Star Wars trilogy (Episodes IV-VI). As an immigrant it seemed like a great chance to catch up with the mainstream and try to understand why it was such a staple of American culture. I will save my opinions for now, my main observation that I want to analyze is the role of the Empire.

One of the things I noticed halfway through the trilogy was that in no moment was there an effort to explain: “Why is the empire evil?” If we remove the “evil” from “Empire,” “death” from “star,” and “dark side” from “force” we are left only with the narrative told by the protagonists.

Of course, this is a movie; the narrative is a key component. However, if we look closely, there is no sign of the motivations of the Empire or its citizens other than the fact that it is the Empire that holds power in the galaxy.

Why am I so interested in this minuscule detail that does not affect the plot in any way? Well, I am not writing a movie review, am I? I am concerned with how our minds work and how easy and natural it is for us to accept a narrative that favors the upwards-punching underdogs. No, this is not about Star Wars. This is about our culture.

Several days ago, I was talking to a friend. She is an Iranian immigrant who works with me. We have been able to develop a friendship since we share common ground as we are both immigrants to this country. We usually talk about several subjects such as our adaptation to the culture, learning the language, being grateful about the things we did not have back in our nations, but lately the main subject has been the United StatesIran conflict that developed over the

beginning of the month. She is of the opinion that Iran is currently under a terrorist-funding, warmongering, and oppressive regime, headed by zealous, religious fundamentalists.

She did not obtain that opinion from Fox News though. She had to live through it most of her life and make the comparison with little Lubbock, Texas. She was extremely happy that General Soleimani was taken out by the American Armed Forces on the orders of our Commander in Chief.

For her, it was due and just punishment to a man that had terrorized nations, especially hers, and directly participated in the brutal oppression of his own people with no regard for basic principles of human rights as life, liberty, and property. I could understand her feelings; I felt the same way in 2016 when Fidel Castro passed away. For me, it was the end of a person who was responsible for the suffering of generations of my countrymen including my own family. “Do you think the president did the right thing?” I asked her. She was adamant, “Yes.” I personally agreed.

For people lucky enough to escape truly oppressive regimes, like my friend and I, America represents much more than the proverbial Promised Land. Most of us would like to see our nations thrive and reach their full potential. Iran is a nation with a story as long as humanity itself. Cuba was one of the most developed nations in the western world during the 50s. We have seen that potential stifled by corrupt servers of selves in the name of a merciless “god” or a twisted notion of “the people.” Oppressed, imprisoned, and murdered by zealots in the name of Islam or Socialism. For people like us, America is the hope that one day things will change, that it can be done. We are not pro-war people; we are pro-liberation. America, for

all of its defects, appears as the bastion of liberty that gives the world hope. Just like Cuban Americans have been dreaming of overthrowing the Castro dictatorship for 60 years now, Iranians and Venezuelan Americans (among others) also dream of seeing their old oppressors fall. For us, the “Evil Empire” is the new hope for our oppressed nations.

For the reasons I have mentioned, it is obvious that dictators, oppressors, and those who romanticize their actions fear America and call it an “Evil Empire.” They know that their only chance to survive is to look the victim, especially when we have finally started to deter their warmongering. It is shocking for people like my friend and I then when we see the outcry from across the aisle denouncing America’s action as an “illegal” act of war. I am not going to explain the nonsense of this argument. Many great political thinkers such as Ben Shapiro and Matt Walsh have largely argued this point. My concern today is not of legal nature but of an existential one.

Viktor Frankl, in his great masterpiece “Man’s Search for Meaning” (which you should read), argued that freedom must be complemented by responsibility. Stan Lee decades ago, coined the most overused phrase in the history of superheroes, “With

great power comes great responsibility.” America has earned great power, the greatest ever seen in human history. This has come from nothing but our founding principles of natural law and Judeo-Christian philosophical values. As the recipient of such blessings, I believe we have a natural responsibility to protect such beliefs across the world. Not to be the “world’s police,” not to spend billions on pointless nation-building, but to represent our ideals, to respond to and destroy evil, to protect people who cannot fight back. We would be liars if we ignore such responsibility and yet call ourselves the land of the brave.

It has been bestowed upon us by our ancestors, an empire. An empire of law and order, not of emperors; of life, liberty, and property; not of conquest. With this empire, we have been given a responsibility: to protect those values wherever we can reach.

Even when some might construct narratives in which the powerful is, by default, the oppressor, remember always to look beyond the story.

Maybe America might be seen as the Evil Empire by some, but everybody gets happy when they hear the Imperial March nearby.

A JUDICIAL LEGACY WORTH PRESERVING

id you know that Texas is one of only 25 states where citizens still have the right to elect their trial court judges? Despite efforts to change that system to one where judges are appointed by a small group of people, I believe that all citizens should have the right to decide for themselves who best reflects their values when it comes to choosing who will wear the black robe and take the bench.

I am proudly running as both a lifelong conservative and Republican in the March 3rd Primary, to become Judge of the 99th District Court for Lubbock County. At the same time, I am honored and humbled to stand

before the citizens of Lubbock County and ask them for their vote. So, let me tell you who I am and what I stand for.

If I am elected, my promise is that I will start every day in court with the Pledge of Allegiance, as a reminder that the government institutions we the people have created serve the high purpose reflected in the Pledge, to insure liberty and justice for all. As a judge, I will never forget that our courts exist to protect our God-given and constitutionally guaranteed rights and to see that the law is administered justly, fairly and without favor.

And, I will not forget that I do not get to make the law…the people do. As Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch recently said, and I agree, “A judge’s job is to be faithful to the Constitution at all times, nothing

more, and nothing less.”

Lubbock has been my home for 60 years. God blessed me with a loving, Christian mom and dad who were also good citizens who loved their country. My dad was a Marine in World War II, and he fought at Iwo Jima, and the “Marine” in him always came out whenever he stood to honor the flag.

I graduated from Texas Tech, got married, and my wife Cindy and I raised our two children here. I am an ordained Baptist minister, and I served as a youth minister and evangelist before getting married, after which I went into business for 17 years before going to law school.

Raising a family, running a business, and going to law school at the same time was hard work, but I graduated from Texas Tech School of Law in the

top 10% of my class. I was selected by highly respected and conservative federal judge Sam Cummings to be his law clerk, an honor reserved for only top law school graduates. I learned much from working for him about how a good judge moves cases efficiently and controls the courtroom. I learned that our courts do not exist for the benefit of lawyers.

Courts exist so that justice is done fairly and with respect for the parties before the court, so that citizens can have confidence in their judicial system.

I

am a son of migrant workers who traversed the country from South Texas to California in search of agricultural work and somehow ended up in West Texas. West Texas is where my adult life began as I was the first in my family to graduate high school and then to join the U.S. Army. I bet my story is similar to most Americans who essentially start out in poverty and end up as the hard-working middle class that essentially drives American prosperity.

So what drives me to run for County Commissioner? The truth of the matter is that I dislike paying taxes and so should you. Let me be clear, we need to pay taxes to sustain a government that will protect its citizens.

However, if left unchecked, the government can destroy lives through excessive taxation (California and New York come to mind). If you don’t believe governments can destroy lives, don’t pay your taxes and watch the government come down on you like a ton of bricks.

Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness. Here in West Texas, it means having a government that isn’t intrusive or abusive in carrying out its function. We are caring people and most of us will pay our taxes when informed. We are also trusting people who elect political leaders who will carry out our wishes. Herein lies the problem. How do you create conformity when we have over 350,000 “wishes”?

Can we agree that all of us are busy working hard to earn a living that

will sustain us? Meanwhile, our elected officials are working hard to keep taking our money and ensuring we are not smart enough to figure out they are literally stealing from us. Wrap your head around that concept, the government is not your friend. You vote for someone you trusted, and they become your overlords because they are supposed to do “something.” If anything frosts me it’s when I hear any politician say that the voters don’t understand or that the voters will learn to like what laws are being passed. Most of you probably hated Obamacare at the federal level but you did nothing… you took it like a champ. Well, we voted for Trump! We have power when we vote together.

So, I am running as a check and balance to the spend-spend-spend

crowd who think they have to do “something.” There are laws that must be adhered to by any government but I hope to be the voice of reason in prioritizing needs over wants.

taxpayer should understand that governments aren’t efficient, far from it. However, you can elect people that will sustain the promise of our forefathers who believed in a smaller government that was accountable to the people.

Trust me when I tell you that the County must spend money on necessities such as our Sheriffs department, maintaining county roads and other infrastructure. The priority should be to protect the citizens and burdensome taxation is not taking care of Lubbock County Citizens.

Reacting to the revelations of Project Veritas’ (undercover videos concerning the sale of body parts obtained from aborted infants by Planned Parenthood) President Trump changed federal funding rules regarding research.

According to the new guidelines, federal funds can no longer support research using the body parts of children killed by abortion.

Reversing the Obama Administration’s pro-abortion policy, President Trump reinstated and expanded the “Mexico City Policy.” The Bush-era Mexico City Policy protected approximately $500 million in spending.

Who is Our Enemy? Suit-Wearing Jihadists!

ow that the Iranian terrorist Qasem Soleimani is gone, we Americans should feel much safer. Right? And now that we have the best equipped, best trained, most intelligent military the United States has ever had, shouldn’t we feel at peace in spite of all the upheaval in the Middle East and the world? In many ways we should feel at peace because we have an awesome God that gives us peace even in the midst of chaos whether in the Middle East or here at home.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, in Washington D.C., there are some “suit-wearing jihadist” influencing those very special people we voted to represent us. Those very special people who were elected to serve us and create,

even limit, legislation.

But as recently as January 9, 2020, the House voted 224-194 to pass H. Con. Res. 83, which would restrict the President’s ability to exercise his war powers against Iran under the War Powers Act of 1973. These powers are core executive functions of the commander-in-chief under Article II of the Constitution, and the resolution would undermine the President’s ability to swiftly respond to Iran’s escalating acts of aggression against U.S. interests. If passed in the Senate, this resolution would send Iran a dangerous signal that the United States is not serious about protecting its interests in the Middle East at a time of increasing hostility.

life, to take away liberty and our pursuit of happiness. As the Apostle Paul revealed in his writings to the Ephesians, our enemies are not flesh and blood.

Those opponents, those enemies may appear to have flesh and blood but are merely a facade to battle against all that the Lord God deems right and good. We are in a spiritual battle for the heart and soul of our Nation.

So then, what are we to do except to obey and act upon His Word: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, having done everything, to stand firm. Planned Parenthood: A Domestic Enemy

efore you read on, know that I am against baseless rumors; I am against fear-mongering; and I am against spreading disinformation. However, one cannot ignore the signs of the times.

Planned Parenthood (I mean Premeditated Infanticide) is planning something big for West Texas as far as I can tell. Lubbockites (and Midlanders and other West Texans), we need to step up now. Let me lay out some information for you and allow you to make your own conclusion of whether or not I’m off my rocker.

In October 2018, Planned Parenthood was able to reopen its doors in El Paso, TX after closing in 2009.

In late March 2018, an anonymous Texas donor pledged $9 million to Planned Parenthood with the idea in mind of reopening clinics in West Texas. Shortly after this donation was reported, State Senator Charles Perry led a petition-based protest against the notion of any Lubbock clinic reopening. Although (thank God) no clinic has been opened thus far, there have been no binding ordinances.

In September 2019, the Planned Parenthood Direct app rolled out allowing people (West Texas people) to receive services and schedule appointments (in case unborn infanticide needed to be more instant).

In October 2019, Planned Parenthood opened a secret “mega-clinic” in Illinois near the Illinois-Missouri border that was under construction for over a year. The abortion giant was able to keep the purpose of the building a secret until right before opening.

Now, let’s take all this together to see what it means. Lubbock and Midland Planned Infanticides have been closed since 2014 and 2013. Six years later (2020), we are worried about the centers reopening. Is that irrational? It’s been over half a decade. Obviously, it’s

not that irrational seeing that in El Paso nine years passed between the closing of one murder center and the opening of another. Furthermore, we know that Planned Parenthood has nine million dollars to spend on West Texas, and we know that they are targeting rural and hostile regions with their new app.

Finally, we know that Planned Parenthood is willing to operate in secret in order to avoid backlash.

Let’s see. We have a persistent, secretive, won’t -take-no-for-an-answer abortion giant with $9 million to spend on western Texas where multiple clinics have been closed and one has been reopened. Not to mention, Planned Parenthood has reported that the 20182019 fiscal year yielded the most federal aid ever received and the most abortions performed despite the Trump Administration’s and several individual states’ pushes against abortion.

(Additionally, Planned Parenthood is increasing in unborn infanticide rates while overall abortion rates are decreasing.) This can only spell trouble.

Why, in a region predominated by conservative values, can we not bind together to ensure that the murder giant does not return? We can! And we must! Benjamin Franklin once said,

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Let us not be deceived and think that just because the abortion industry is not directly active in our region that we are off the hook. No, Planned Parenthood is a domestic enemy constantly seeking to gain ground in this battle for life and the unborn.

Eight smaller towns have already declared freedom from the tyranny of Roe v Wade. These towns have declared themselves sanctuary cities for the unborn. Currently, Mark Lee Dickson, the director of Right to Life of East Texas, is traveling the state looking to persuade more towns to take a stand against evil. Some regard these people

as radicals or as wishful thinkers. But let me remind you of our Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life… [T]o secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men…whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it.” To alter or to abolish it.

It is our American duty to oppose and change laws that destroy the innocent.

As Peter and John and the other apostles said, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). It’s time to start contacting our city councilmen. Let them know where you stand. It’s time for West Texas to be a sanctuary region. It’s time for Lubbock (or wherever you’re at) to be a sanctuary city. Lives may very well depend on it.

One final word. To anyone reading who as ever had or preformed an abortion, there is grace for you through the blood and name of Jesus Christ. The pro-life movement’s primary focus is to love and protect the unborn, and if you can help, we need you.

America is going through a lot right now, but I still believe that it is a great, strong country. What makes America great is that we are full of multiculturalism, capitalism, and patriotism.

One of the qualities that makes America great is multiculturalism.

Multiculturalism is when multiple culture traits are all present in one place. Love of freedom reminds me of multiculturalism because Americans can freely express their culture and be themselves. Multiculturalism allows people to be more creative. If you are learning new ways of doing things or living in a new culture you are becoming a more creative person. We can also form bonds and learn about ourselves and each other. By learning about each other we’re able to get closer. Which leads to us having more respect and understanding for one another.

Another characteristic that makes America great is capitalism. Capitalism is an economic system. Intelligence reminds me of capitalism because a lot of wisdom goes into business and economics. Consumers in America can

choose products that they desire. It also allows more freedom and personal initiative. In capitalism individual value plays a huge role while government plays a secondary role. In a capitalist system everyone has a reasonable chance to succeed. Not to mention it provides more efficiency in economy and greater growth rates.

The last characteristic that makes America great is patriotism. A simple definition of patriotism is, one’s own love or support for their county. Energy of citizens reminds me of patriotism because patriotism helps self-motivation and pump up citizens. Fifty great states, born from thirteen original colonies. Patriotism is not blindly about beliefs or culture value. It is about taking pride and working for the prosperity of your country. Patriotism has a positive effect on self-motivation. Patriotism motivates people to complete their day to day activities.

Those were just three of many reasons why I believe the United States of America is a great place, that will continue to get better.

merica is the most blessed nation in the history of mankind. We have enjoyed more harmony, peace, liberty, economic prosperity, and victory on the battlefield than any other people.

Former U.S. Congressman and author of “Politics: Easy as P.I.E.,” Bob McEwen, said that America counts for only 4% of the world’s population and yet produces 25% of the world’s goods.

America writes more copyrights, more compositions, more books, and has more inventions than any other nation in history. The GDP [all goods and services produced] by the fourth largest nation on Earth, Indonesia with a population of 250 million, is smaller than the GDP of Louisiana with a population of only 4.6 million.

General economic prosperity is the result of obeying sound economic principles. One of those principles is found in our Declaration of Independence, where the Framers in their acquired wisdom wrote, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” The government protected Liberty of an individual to pursue

Someone whose life vision is to farm buys land, acquires a tractor, a plow, and other necessary equipment from a farm equipment retailer to till the ground, plant, fertilize, and water the seed. The farmer harvests the wheat, loads the kernels into a semi-truck [someone had the vision to build the truck] which takes the grain to a grain elevator.

The person with the personal economic vision to own a grain elevator pays the farmer for his grain, cleans, separates, and sells it to flour millers.

The flour millers grind the grain into different types of flour, make readyto-eat products, and sells them along with sacks of flour to various people who are pursuing their economic vision of owning and operating a grocery store.

Bakers and chefs also buy the flour to, in turn, make their own delightful creations for sale to the public. And you or a member of your family buys bread from the retailer and it ends up on your dining room table.

Well, it was the “Unseen Hand” that carefully and precisely linked each individual vision together with the right timing to bake and sell bread for your consumption. As a black and grateful proud American, it turns my stomach the way Democrats repeatedly pander to us, pretending race relations in America have not progressed beyond the 1950s.

Irresponsibly, Hollywood, public education and fake news media join Democrats in selling black America their absurd lie that America is a hellhole of racism, overrun with white supremacists and KKK members. It is all a huge scheme to keep blacks believing they are victims, voting for Democrats to keep rabid racist white America at bay. Rather than relentlessly instilling hate and victim mindsets, Conservatism encourages and celebrates all Americans becoming their best.

AWW, Who Cares About Little Babies?

bout this time one year ago, New York Governor Cuomo, with New York State legislators, legalized abortion up to birth.

Because of this egregious decision against innocent babies the Catholic Church raised an outcry for Cuomo’s excommunication. I agree with them, “Excommunicate”! But shouldn’t capital punishment also be included?

Ghoulish, grizzly, gruesome, are some of the words Cardinal Archbishop Timothy Dolan used to describe what is taking place, yet, at the same time, he refuses to excommunicate. Cardinal Dolan also says, “You don’t have to be a catholic to abhor taking a baby’s life up to the moment of birth or letting the baby die after its birth. This is not good for our country.” He also calls it a hideous procedure.

That’s not all. The Cardinal also says to excommunicate the Governor would be counterproductive in regard to the abortion issue. I don’t get it Cardinal Dolan. What do you think would be productive, kiss the Governor on his hand?

Today, communities across Texas are legally declaring their cities to be “Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn”.

Thank God for places like Big Spring and Colorado City, who are the most recent to declare themselves as such.

Everyone should be raising a voice for what is right. Unfamiliar to many Dietrich Bonhoeffer stands out as a hero, one who was not afraid to defy Adolf Hitler to his face. This was a time when a man’s life was at stake for doing so. For the cause of innocent Jews, for the sake of doing what was right and what was necessary, Bonhoeffer raised his voice for the cause of saving the lives of the Jewish people.

In that day, just as it is in this day, too many were afraid to speak forth.

Some will explain they are afraid they may hurt other’s feelings and therefore refuse to make a public outcry against murder, so more babies die, and more mothers live the rest of their lives bearing the deepest pain for the loss of their child. It doesn’t have to be that way. Sure, we will love and encourage, and be there for the mothers who are still suffering. We love them. But what about the next mother, and the next? What about the baby some mother and father will never raise? After death, all hope is gone.

So, we continue on our way, acting like murder is innocent to the point we begin to believe it ourselves. Can anyone understand, there is no such thing as innocent murder!!! When will we decide to speak out? Bonhoeffer spoke and paid a dear price for doing so. Unrelenting, Dietrich suffered great persecution, imprisonment, rejection, and isolation, to the point of death. Before Dietrich Bonhoeffer died, one week prior to Adolf Hitler’s defeat and the end of World War II, Bonhoeffer left with words that are resounding through the rest

of history, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. Not to speak, is to speak.

Not to act, is to act.

Long have we sought someone who would lead the pro-life movement toward our goal of ending the massacre of the unborn. I believe God does not judge societies by the sin that exists in them for the same sin lurks within all humans. I believe instead that God judges societies by the sins which they condone. God destroyed Judah because they sacrificed the children to the pagan god Moloch. Today millions of American children are sacrificed on the altar of convenience, self-will, and vanity.

The blood of the innocents cry out to God.

If God does not judge us for the slaughter of the innocents it seems like He should offer an apology to Sodom and Gomorrah. But we who fear the Lord should not refrain for praying that God’s hand move against this terrible national sin. For though a thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand it shall not come near you. And the truth is that our Father has told us “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Don’t despair. Instead, rejoice for we finally have a president leading the way out of the darkness of infanticide and back to the light of life.

So, keep the faith, keep the peace for we shall overcome, and why worry when you can pray.

Failure to Preserve Federalism has Cost much Liberty

e live under two political systems: one centered on foreign affairs, the other primarily domestic. It’s called Federalism—the two share power. Neither subservient or above the other and each with separate duties. Like a good marriage, a team.

Thomas Jefferson explained, “The states are not subordinate to the national government but rather the two are coordinate departments of one single and integral whole….” The one is domestic the other the foreign branch of the same government.”

The Founders were aware of the nature of all governments to grow. George Washington warned, “Government is like fire, a dangerous servant and a fearful master.” In order to ensure the

fire does not spread and burn down the home, one builds a fireplace to keep

the fire contained. That fireplace is the Constitution, particularly Section

8, which lists all powers that are given to Congress. Everything Congress did was to be clearly linked to at least one of these enumerated grants of power.

The states who created the federal government, retained unto themselves all other powers as per Amendments 9 and 10 of the Constitution.

The advantages of federalism are enormous. States become laboratories of experimentation. Californians remember numerous “brownouts” at the turn of the century because of California’s failed energy policies.

Other states viewing this were careful to avoid the same policies. States look to sister states for models and borrow from them in refining their own programs. These places of experimentation work to everyone’s advantage.

What if we had federalized California’s failed energy policy? We would have had “brownouts“ on a national scale.

government refrained from its natural inclination to take more power, healthcare reform could have gone through this experimental process designed by our Founding Fathers. We would then have been able to identify the weaknesses or strengths while they were still geographically isolated.

Only three states had tried it: Oregon, Massachusetts, and Hawaii. That was clearly not enough to identify and avoid the “brownouts “ in the area of healthcare. Instead, they took a halfbaked idea and made it mandatory for all and called it Obamacare.

Since healthcare was, and is not yet, a listed authority of the federal government it necessitates an enlargement of the enumerated list through Article V, requiring ratification by “3/4th of the Several States.” Since more than 60% of the people did not want this, the Constitution would have protected us from what we know now was unsustainable.

To protect Federalism the Founders did two things. First, Senators were to be selected by state legislatures so the U. S. Senate would be protective of state concerns. All law required the approval of the House of Representatives—the peoples’ representatives—and the Senate—the states’ representatives. That is why we have two branches of government to make law—two perspectives.

The Seventeenth Amendment, mandating that the people, rather than the state legislators, elect U. S. Senators,

State issues thereafter were left mostly unrepresented—thus unprotected—on the federal level.

Second, the structure of the U. S. Constitution listed and defined federal power Article I, Section 8, leaving all power not specifically listed with the states as per the 10th Amendment.

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

The Progressive (socialist) Movement of the early 20th Century wreaked havoc on Federalism. The 16th Amendment, removing the previous constitutional taxing requirements based upon “apportionment among the several States “ and “census or enumeration,” to simply incomes, which could be raised arbitrarily at will. This left the federal government with unlimited resources to spend and expand—feeding its natural tendency to grow.

It used this excess to bribe states, counties, and cities to perform functions not listed in the Constitution, like the 55-mile-per-hour speed limit of the Ford and Carter Administrations, which funding later could be denied if states refused to comply. Consequently, states became addicted to federal money making it near impossible for them to “just say no” to federal takeover in their domestic dominion. A third of their resources come from the federal government.

Federal courts have amplified federal law by a twisted interpretation of the poorly constructed Amendment 14, also to the detriment of Federalism.

Amendment 18, repealed by Amendment 21, openly invited the federal government to decide approved beverages for us and then from there to approved drugs; all matters constitutionally left entirely to state jurisdiction.

Failure to preserve Federalism has cost us much liberty, most notably limited government. Lawmakers totally ignore both the listed areas of government (Article I, Sec. 8) and Amendment 10. State legislators have no influence in the U.S. Senate, once designed to protect them. States are bribed into compliance and now are addicted to federal handouts. They have become mostly administrative agents of the federal government

without immunity to federal intrusion nor will to use nullification to block unconstitutional law. And we are excessively taxed.

We do not need an Article V constitutional convention to restore Federalism, just more lawmakers who understand the Constitution as written and will adhere to it, especially in the areas specified above. Now is the time to find and elevate them.

TEXAS SCHOOL BOARDS CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1

who want to be the ones to provide sex education within their own families?

One thing we need to consider is that Texas is a non-partisan School Board state. As a result, candidates don’t run as Republicans or Democrats, so the ballots don’t show their party affiliations. Likewise, the political parties are encouraged to stay out of it because somehow at some point somebody decided that it is better for the children if “politics” are excluded from the election process.

Recently a guest writer for our local newspaper started out her column by stating that “Texas school boards are non-partisan.” She had been a school board trustee until last November and to be accurate, her article was more about trashing the local Republican Party, who she blamed for her landslide defeat, than it was about partisanship.

But that article got me to thinking about what “partisanship” actually means and how it’s seen as something bad for children. The fact is, it means different things to different people and before we look closer at it, I want to make abundantly clear that I have no problem with the institution of public education per se. It’s something we need and I’m glad if a reasonable amount of my local property tax goes to that purpose. I love teachers too

To school board folks, it would somehow be better for children if the trustees are elected without the voters knowing what the candidates’ politics are. That particular view of nonpartisanship assumes that voters will only vote according to positions that have been taken by their political party.

Their thoughts and values and principles of life have been handed down to them by the party hierarchy instead of coming from a higher source with a higher priority. In fact, Conservative Republicans are especially incapable of having our own ideas apart from our party affiliation.

I can assure you as a bible-believing Christian that my values came from a source that predates the Republican Party by thousands of years. I am a Republican because its platform comes way closer to my values than other political parties. My values constitute my world view and it‘s really helpful to know what a candidate’s world view is so I know if we match up.

I don’t want to be fooled into voting for somebody who has a worldview materially different than mine because in the end, it won’t work out well.

Another way to see partisanship says that my own particular views, no matter where they came from, and my group that shares these views are nonpartisan but yours are partisan. There’s no way that on your own you could have decided for different values than mine. Some political persons or groups had to have influenced you whereas my values were derived from pure and independently-intelligent selection.

Only those of adult age can vote so we should be old enough by then to make our own decisions and selections. No Republican told me what my values should be, God did! Moreover, it was my choice and my decision to accept them and make them mine. My guess is that the Independent School District people in Houston, Austin, Wimberley and a bunch of other Texas

towns who have labored to introduce SOGI policies and explicit sex education into their school districts would still say about themselves, as did the Guest Writer in our local newspaper, that they are NON-partisan. And of course, those who opposed their “enlightened” ideas are “partisans” who are harming the children. If you don’t know what “SOGI” means, you need to look it up on the Internet immediately.

That brings up a third way of looking at partisanship: if a value comes from the Bible, it is deemed by many to be partisan. If it comes from some Christian group, it is partisan. If biblical values are represented to be what’s best for our children, that’s partisan. If parents want to reserve the task of sex education of their children for themselves instead of a secular “pseudo-well-meaning” institutional outsider, that’s also partisan. The opposite ideas which are secular, non-Christian and non-bible are popularly called NON-partisan.

Does it not seem important to know a candidate’s worldview BEFORE we vote for him/her? One of the main ways we can find out about their values is to know which political party they belong to. It’s not a perfect indicator but it sure helps. Most communities DO conduct campaign forums where we can ask the candidates questions except which political party they belong to.

Interestingly though, those forums are usually conducted by the political parties. I’ve been to many of them and when they ask questions about personal world-view values, what they often get back is an answer to a different question or a partial answer or the candidates complain about the question not having anything to do with the job they are running for when in fact it has everything to do with it.

In recent years there is an increasing number of states that ARE asking these questions, whose school district elections are moving from nonpartisan to partisan. Check it out for yourself on the Internet. Is

there any wonder that there has been growing support for more partisanship? Nonpartisanship sounds nice but what does it actually accomplish?

What it’s getting for us in many Texas counties is advanced sex education for eight-year-olds and an anti-Christian curriculum.

I know that we have some good and righteous people around the various school districts in our state. I know too that some of them have their reasons for insisting on nonpartisanship. But some of that may just be tradition.

Times have changed so I am asking some questions. Others are also asking. Indeed, it’s critical now that Christians come out to vote, that we vote in agreement with our Bibles and that we vote for candidates who have a conservative, Christian world view.

Finally, I want to make it clear that I am VERY partisan. So are my wife and most of the people we hang out with. But it’s not about the Republican Party. Our so-called partisanship is for the Kingdom of God and Biblical Correctness. What does God want for this country? For this state? Which candidates are the most likely to be the best for the interests of His Kingdom? Which of the candidates have values that line up with my biblical worldview? And, which of the candidates will actually work for the best interests of our children?

This is how I look at partisanship and I need to know the answers to these questions BEFORE I step into the voting booth. How about you?

Old Salt: You Don’t Even Think to Call Me Godfather?

here is a plethora of reasons to claim my U.S. Navy duty enriched my young life. Many would consider some things I was exposed too repugnant and not to be discussed in polite company. Personally, I don’t see it that way any more than a good historian would choose to ignore evil in favor of only claiming how good mankind was over a certain period. If you are one of those who wish to ignore history then you are part of the contemporary crowd who rewrites history, tears down statues, destroys art, belittles historical records, etc. etc... What puzzles me is why those who obfuscate historical facts seem to believe they can, after the fact, change an outcome that is set in stone. You don’t have to look far to see this phenomenon. Just look at New York, Dallas, Austin, Charlottesville, the left coast and other crazy liberal bastions.

Hang on now because I am going to tell a true occurrence that happened during my tour as ships company on the U.S.S. Forrestal. After you read the remainder of this story you tell me; is there some good in people who history would deem despicable? Is it “You can’t always tell a book by its cover” or said another way “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”?

Just Call Me Godfather: Godfather, The Movie My chance encounter has to do with the Godfather I met.

A little refresher by way of the movie The Godfather. The Godfather is a 1972 American crime film based on Mario Puzo’s novel of the same name. It starred Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as the father and son of a fictional New York crime family. The story, spanning 1945 to 1955, chronicles the family under the patriarch Vito Corleone (Brando), focusing on

the transformation of the son Michael Corleone (Pacino), raised to have a life outside of crime, from reluctant family outsider to ruthless mafia boss. Filming took place primarily on location around New York and in Sicily. Based on what I have seen, in and around Naples would have been perfect as that is the historical headquarters of the Mafia. The Godfather premiered on March 15, 1972, and was released in the United States on March 24, 1972. It was the highest-grossing film of 1972 and was for a time the highest-grossing film ever made, with a gross of around $245–286 million at the box office.

I was fascinated by the 1972 movie having had an encounter with the real Godfather in 1960. If you did not see the movie, I highly recommend it as its fictional depiction captures the real mob, the wise guys.

Scary Encounter with the real Godfather?

On a very comfortable 1960 summer night in Naples, Italy, I had a couple of beers with Lucky Luciano. Looking at the above photo or knowing the mob history you would think I was terrified.

It wasn’t that way.

At the time I was just a couple of

months away from discharge from my first enlistment in the Navy. As a reward for my service on the Forrestal, I was allowed to spend the final months of duty as a member of the Ships Master at Arms Force. This was a cushy assignment that gave me some extraordinary privileges. One privilege was the ability to avoid the normal Cinderella Liberty. “Cinderella Liberty” is Navy jargon for a liberty pass that runs out at midnight as endured by enlisted men. As a Master at Arms, I could return to the ship at will as long as I had liberty. On this particular night,

I was ashore with a fellow Master at Arms member. We had enjoyed a nice meal at the nearby NATO base and had been entertained at one of the favored watering holes of Forrestal sailors. I can never forget that bar and how they always played Louie Primo’s “It’s Time to Say Goodnight to Napoli” when the sailors need to head to the “ships landing”. I have to admit the pleasure of seeing hordes of sailors streaming out of bars and side streets, headed for the ships landing liberty boats so as not to SEE OLD SALT: YOU DON’T EVEN THINK TO CALL ME GODFATHER? | PAGE 32

True Stories of a Vietnam Long Range Recon Patrol: Part VII

Part seven of a 12-part series sharing the very personal and boots on the ground account of one Green Beret’s time in Vietnam. ay 4 of the mission. The team was moving west at a slow pace. I assumed that HQ had come to their senses and was planning on extracting the team at first light.

The COVEY came each day to make radio contact and look at the terrain around us. COVEY also could inform us of anything we needed to know about any villages or people in the area visible by air.

However, radio contact could be achieved at night by any military aircraft above us. Radio signals are not so much power as they are line-of-sight.

From the ground up is so much greater coverage of distance than on the ground due to all the vegetation and mountains.

I assume a high flying fast mover, likely a F4 phantom fighter jet or some other aircraft, had radioed orders and location of an extraction landing zone (LZ) from HQ to the One-Zero.

I assumed we would go up the mountain at an angle until we reached a clear area from which we would be extracted.

It did not take me long before I realized that we were angling up but at a much too shallow of a climb. We were

pushing more to the west; that was not healthy. After about 20 minutes of travel, I knew we were not going to be extracted. The One-Zero was taking us up the mountain and in line with the NVA storage area so that we could observe the enemy and radio HQ their location coordinates.

I had a general idea of what we needed to do but I hated [HATED] being out of the direct communications loop.

We were positioned along a ridgeline with a 200-yard clearing running east and west and about 30 yards wide. I looked up to see the stars, but I could see only a few due to a light cloud cover.

COVEY must have told the One-Zero the best observation point from which the NVA could be observed under the trees across the clearing. I knew that it would be all but impossible to get out of here alive.

So much for not engaging the enemy.

A signal was passed down the line telling us to set up an ambush zone.

Because there was more light in the clearing, and since the sun would be up in two or three hours, we spread out with more distance between each man.

To our rear, there was a shallow depression running along the ridge. On the other side of the depression, the

jungle continued up the mountain.

To our front, the clearing was covered with grass about shoulder high. I knew

this grass as elephant grass that can grow to 10 or 12 feet high. Here it was much shorter, but I didn’t know if the grass was in the early stages of growth or if was mature.

The clearing fell away. Downhill, toward the road.

Stooping to only expose my head... I looked across the clearing and downhill. I scanned about 50-feet in front of me to the left and right. There was nothing but grass to protect me from the backblast if I had to trigger the Claymore mine.

I moved into the grass and placed my Claymore about 40 feet in front of where I would take my stand against any enemy assault.

turn into a proverbial pumpkin.

At some point, my shipmate and I, with Naples streets pretty much deserted, decided to walk a different route back to ships landing. You probably think that was dangerous. Not in the Naples of that day. Naples had its faults, but danger was not one of them. I think the bartender playing “It’s Time to Say Goodnight to Napoli” is one example of the goodhearted people of Naples at that time. On this night, we were just enjoying local sights and sounds when we came upon a place called “The California Bar and Grill”. Years later, with the advent of the internet, I learned this place was the favorite hangout of Lucky Luciano. I later learned the California Bar was a favored hangout for U.S. Navy Officers.

Before telling the rest of the story and in case you do not know here is a little background on Lucky Luciano.

Who was Lucky Luciano?

Charles “Lucky” Luciano, Italian born Salvatore Lucania November 24, 1897, died January 26, 1962, was a key Italian-born mobster, criminal mastermind, and crime boss who operated mainly in the United States.

Along with his associates, he was instrumental in the development of the National Crime Syndicate. Luciano was considered the father of modern organized crime in the United States for the establishment of The Commission in 1931, that is the Mafia. He was also the first official boss of the modern Genovese crime family.

Luciano was eventually tried and successfully convicted for compulsory prostitution and running a prostitution racket in 1936 after years of investigation by District Attorney Thomas E. Dewey. Since he was instrumental in every aspect of illicit mob activity, the prostitution charge was probably the only thing Lucky could be nailed on.

He was given a 30 to 50-year prison sentence, but during World War II an

agreement was struck with the Department of the Navy through his associate Meyer Lansky to provide naval intelligence and security of our ports; for his alleged wartime cooperation, he was deported back to Italy, in 1946, to live his life freely outside the United States.

I have read other detailed accounts that our intelligence service went to Luciano because they were worried about Nazi saboteur infiltration and active sabotage of our port facilities.

Luciano told them he would see to it there would be no sabotage of ships or cargo in our ports. He delivered on the promise as there was no further sabotage throughout WWII even as he was in exile. Over the years of exile, he frequently stated his love for the USA. LUCKY LUCIANO, CAN I BUY YOU MEN A DRINK?

He was immaculately dressed in a fine suit and tie as I recall. He said, “Hello my name is Lucky Luciano, can I buy you men a drink”. We invited him to join us. scanned into the tree line trying to locate the trucks and NVA. They were there somewhere… but where. I saw nothing.

I was so tired and sleepy I must have been asleep on my feet.

The quiet of the night was shattered by the sound of a truck engine starting up. I looked toward the sound and I realized why I had seen nothing in front of me. The main body of their HQ was way west of where I had been looking.

It all made sense now. The One-Zero would naturally place himself directly across from the camp to better observe and report to our HQ. I could now see a small point of light leading the now empty trucks back to the east. I could see the darker shadows of the trucks as they followed each other back to where I assumed, they would reload more supplies. The fact that the sun would be up soon indicated to me that the trucks did not have to travel too far to reload before they shut down for the day.

The trucks faded down the road to the east. I counted 11 as they passed. At the same time, I finished counting, a pinpoint of light appeared on my right.

More trucks were coming.

The question was whether they were returning or coming loaded from a different location. I watched them cover the distance fairly quickly as they reached and passed the spot where the first group of trucks had been.

This told me that they were empty

and that one of the groups had been delivering fuel or ammunition. That could be the only reason for two storage sites. My problem was how to tell if the first group was the place of fuel storage or was the fuel stored farther west.

The second group of trucks faded away to the east.

I did my best to stay awake. Even slapping my face to stay awake but to no avail. The human body requires sleep. In a still position, you can be asleep and not even know you’re asleep.

When you sleep in high-stress situations you do not sleep in the normal sense. It is a very light sleep with the subconscious mind very keenly aware of everything... Sight... Sound...

Odors... Anything out of the ordinary.

As suddenly as I had fallen asleep, I came consciously awake; fully aware of everything around me. The Sun was clearing the mountain in the east, so I

know I had slept an hour or so. I was ashamed of myself.

I listened hard for what had awakened me. I detected no sight or sound ...

Smoke ... Cigarette smoke.

If I lived through this mission, I swore I was going to kill that SOB myself.

What took place in less than an hour made my getting angry over cigarette smoke nothing short of childish!

a long time and just chatted about all kinds of things. He said he loved to talk to Americans so he could keep his English language up to date. Naturally, we never mentioned his alleged criminal history. As soon as he introduced himself, I knew exactly who he

did not have to hear that trite line. As my wonderful Pastor has said many times, be compassionate about anyone’s death. Death is not a joke, not to be minimized. Death is the last and probably the final most painful part of life. Death is the end of chances God has given us to finally serve Him rather than ourselves. We don’t know if Lucky made peace with the Lord and or repented. We do know he loved America and badly wanted to at least die there. With the permission of the U.S. Government Lucky’s relatives took his body back to New York for burial. He was finally home.

Summary In many ways, Lucky Luciano was a stellar American patriot if you measure his life against 80% of our U.S. Congress. Since my aforementioned encounter and with the advent of the internet, I have read of many sailors who had similar Lucky Luciano encounters at the same location. All

tell of a mild-mannered gentleman.

My research shows him as well regarded in Naples. None can doubt his love for the United States. Maybe, while there is still time, the lesson is to examine our own lives and see if we need to make a change. I recently read a story of a famous star from the fifties who endured 20 years of alcohol and substance abuse. She overcame the problem with lots of forgiveness and help. Her admonition was, no matter what your problem, freedom and a satisfying life are right in front of you.

LTC: Steps to Get a Texas License to Carry

A

fter nearly three decades and a multitude of amendments to the License to Carry (LTC), the rights for qualified citizens to protect themselves in the public arena, remains intact. With the ever-increasing crime rate (including car-jackings, burglaries, breaking and entering) and the increase in home invasions, this right to protection is even more important today. Qualified citizens are afforded this right and should take full advantage of it.

Individuals age twenty-one and over (age eighteen, for active-duty military) must meet certain criteria to obtain, as well as maintain, a license to carry a handgun in Texas. There are four classifications that will keep any individual from qualifying for a Texas License to Carry a handgun. The individual: (1)Cannot be a felon (2)Cannot be a member of a known street gang (3)Must have physical control of his/ her body (4)Must have mental control of his/ her body First and foremost, the individual must be in good standing as far as a criminal record is concerned. The individual cannot have a felony record of any kind. Felons who get their convictions pardoned or expunged by the governor of Texas are eligible to apply.

Individuals who have either a Class A or Class B misdemeanor must wait five (5) years from the day the judge signed the conviction papers to apply. With respect to DWI’s or DUI’s, this five (5) year waiting period is also applied on the first offense only. For a second DWI or DUI conviction, the waiting period is extended to a ten (10) year waiting period.

Membership in any known street gangs will prevent any individual from obtaining a Texas LTC. State law enforcement agencies maintain a current

list of these individuals An individual must be able to maintain control of his/her firearm. For example, a person who is confined to a wheelchair but has physical control of his/her upper extremities will have met these criteria but any person who lacks the physical ability to control his/ her upper extremities would not meet this part of the required criteria.

An individual who lacks the mental capacity to safely control a firearm will not qualify for the Texas LTC. Individuals who have a recorded mental history, have resided in a mental institution, or have a record/history of PTSD may not qualify for a Texas LTC. This ruling is subject to the determination of the Texas DPS Handgun Licensing committee. A person who has a history of alcohol or substance abuse will fall into this category (DWI or DUI).

Again, for those individuals who seek to obtain a Texas LTC, we strongly urge them to make this endeavor a priority.

There are three basic requirements to successfully obtain the Texas LTC: (1)Take the required License to Carry

class (2)Make application to the Texas DPS (3)Have your fingerprints submitted by the state contracted provider All persons seeking the Texas LTC must complete the required classroom instruction by a qualified instructor or by completing the online course. The classroom phase consists of a four (4) to six (6) hours of classroom training and successfully passing a 25 question (true/false or multiple-choice test) and a qualifying shoot. Individuals must be proficient with their handgun (i.e.: know how the gun works, be

able to operate the gun safely as well as mechanically) and be able to score a minimum of 175 points out of a possible 250 points on a B-27 target (required by law).

Persons new to the field of handgun shooting would be wise to successfully complete a basic handgun course. Requirements for a handgun state that it must be a revolver or semi-automatic.

However, there is no set requirement for a specific caliber. Students must provide their own handgun (bought, borrowed, or rented). Upon successful completion of the classroom phase, each student will be awarded an LTC100 (LTC-101 for the on-line course), which will be forwarded to the state as part of the required documentation.

LTC applicants will apply via the Texas Department of Public Safety website (Google “Texas LTC application”. During the online application process, personal information will be gathered by the state so that a thorough background check can be made. This will include a complete set of fingerprints.

RADICAL LEFT’S FIRST ITEM OF BUSINESS: Retire Bill Of Rights, Starting with the 2nd Amendment

ecall, it wasn’t long ago that retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice, John Paul Stevens, remarked that the Second Amendment should be redrafted to make clear and unequivocal that the right of the people to keep and bear arms is not an individual, unalienable, immutable right. Stevens authored a book audaciously titled, “Six Amendments: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution.”

In it, he proclaimed the need for a massive redraft of the Bill of Rights.

Disagreeing with the idea of a set of fundamental, immutable, natural rights implicit in it, he wished to replace it, to reflect his vision of the

world, one at odds with the vision of the framers.

In his book, Stevens devotes attention to the Second Amendment to

reflect his philosophy, his vision of America. His remarks constitute a vehement denunciation of the Heller rulings—as penned by the late eminent

high Court Justice, Antonin Scalia—a strong denunciation Stevens dared not articulate in his dissent to the Heller decision.

But, on further reflection, Stevens evidently felt that a substantial redraft of the Second Amendment would be insufficient to set the Country on the course he sought: one cohering with the tenets of Collectivism. So, he went further. He argued for the outright abolition of the natural right of the people to keep and bear arms. The left-wing Magazine Time, citing John Paul Stevens’ Op-Ed appearing in The New York Times, wrote: “Retired Associate Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens has an idea for addressing gun violence in America: repeal the Second Amendment.”

framers gave to us. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who presently sits on the Supreme Court, has also espoused little regard for our Constitution.

Conservatives are often ridiculed for criticizing activist judges who fail to respect the Constitution. We are told that it is not conservative originalists (labeled ignorant and extremist) but rather enlightened liberal judges—with their nuanced understanding of constitutional penumbras—who truly respect the spirit of the Constitution.

Conservatives, however, have good reason to be skeptical of the left’s ‘respect’ for the Constitution. . . for example, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg told an Egyptian TV station that she would not recommend the U.S. Constitution as the model for Egypt’s new government. The problem, you see, is that the U.S. Constitution is ‘a rather old constitution.’ Ginsburg suggested that Egyptians should look instead to the Constitution of South Africa or perhaps the European Convention on Human Rights. All these are ‘much more recent than the U.S. Constitution.’

Ginsburg’s comments echo those by Washington University professor David Law, who published a study with Mila Versteeg on the U.S. Constitution’s declining influence worldwide. In an interview, Law unfavorably compared the Constitution to ‘Windows 3.1’— outdated and unattractive in a world

of sleek and sexy modern constitutions. Such obsession with the age of the Constitution is both absurd and irrelevant.

Equally ridiculous is the claim that the Constitution is too antiquated to apply to the modern world. The principles of the Constitution, although first articulated centuries ago, are not tied to the material conditions of a bygone age. They rest on that most solid and enduring of all foundations: human nature. The Constitution itself contains no policy prescriptions. Rather, it is a short, elegantly written document that creates a framework for a free people to confront the political questions of their times.”

Slightly over a year ago, the National Review pointed out that, with the various changes Democrats would like to make to the U.S. Constitution, they dared not mention, at that time, what they really are after. They realize that to make their Collectivist nightmare of America a reality, it is necessary to do away with the Constitution as it is the framework for our Constitutional Republic, which they seek to undo.

But even as Congressional Democrats do not, at least at the moment, talk expressly of rewriting the U.S. Constitution in its entirety, the Democrats’ bullhorn, the mainstream media, has shown no such reluctance in doing so: proclaiming what the Collectivist world view requires.

The Leftist magazine, Harper’s, emblazoned its October 2019 cover with an incredibly audacious question,

Perusing the article, the reader comes to understand that the question is not only audacious; it is rhetorical.

A subtitle within the magazine makes that clear, as Harpers presumptuously asks: “Has America’s founding document become the nation’s undoing?”

Several Radical Left academic luminaries, namely Donna Edwards, Mary Anne Franks, David Law, Lawrence Lessig, and Louis Michael Seidman, address the presumed and misplaced— as they see it—subservience of the Nation to the U.S. Constitution. Harpers’ readers are obviously supposed to take on faith that the arguments evinced are logically sound, reasonable, and profound. But even a perfunctory analysis makes clear enough that the remarks amount to nothing more than sophistry, a collective superficial polemic, scarcely hiding the academicians’ contempt for the very framework of our Nation. Consider: how is it that Harpers and the Radical Left academicians would reconcile abandonment of a Constitution, one that has stood the test of time, with the idea implicit in the concept of “Rule of Law” that they apparently subscribe to and to the notion that they would ostensibly also ascribe to, namely that, in our Constitutional Republic, we, as Americans are ruled by law, not by men? Without a Constitution, as the backbone of our body of law built up over time, how might

the American citizenry fare, under a new transnational system of governance–one predicated on Collectivist tenets that, at their core, eschew the dignity, sanctity, and inviolability of the individual?

The slippery slope of incessant, incendiary, insufferable Leftist attacks on various parts of the Constitution in the Harpers’ feature article, ends with a proclamation in response to the rhetorical question, do we need the U.S. Constitution? “No we don’t need this U.S. Constitution at all”—which is to say, the concept of our Sovereign Independent Nation-State, as a Constitutional free, Democratic Republic, as laid out in our “rather old Constitution,” as Ruth Bader Ginsburg asserts, is too old-hat, to continue to exist and should be replaced: but replaced with what exactly?

Through the words and actions of the Democrat Party leadership, along with the words and actions of Radical Left elements within the Party and within the greater society at large, and with the policy prescriptions of the Democrat Party Candidates for U.S. President, as mentioned in the Party debates, the American people should have a pretty good clue what these people they have in mind for the Nation if they gain the reins of power.

Go in the Strength You Have

o many of us obsess in life believing we aren’t enough, or we don’t have enough. I both see it and hear it all the time.

“I’d love to do _ _ _ _ _ but I’m not ______ enough to do it” - or - “I’d love to have _____ but I don’t have enough ______.”

That’s enough material to write a dozen columns, and I will over time, but today let’s focus on the first one.

What is it you’d love to do but don’t?

We all have dreams. As children, we dream of being astronauts or firemen.

Soldiers or nurses. Musicians or actors. As we mature, we become more focused and either choose a career in life or settle for one. We either choose for ourselves or allow others or circumstances to choose for us.

Why is it we don’t pursue our dreams? Too often we believe we are not enough. We quickly convince ourselves we aren’t good enough, talented enough or smart enough. We give up on whatever we want and settle on what we believe we can have … or worse ... what someone else tells us we can have.

I sat in church Sunday and was reminded of the ancient but applicable scripture contained in the book of Judges. No, I’m not going to preach.

And you don’t have to be a believer to benefit from old wisdom passed down through the ages.

“The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian. Am I not sending you?”, Judges 6:14 I find great encouragement in these words. I use them in my life as “Go in the strength I have and pursue my dreams.”

I’ve mentioned in this column several times that I was blessed to be raised in a positive home with parents that encouraged me and a father who convinced me I could do and become anything I wanted to be. I realize how fortunate I am and understand that for most others in life, their circumstances were different. I say “were” different and not “are” different. How we were raised certainly impacts our lives, but we cannot allow it to rule our lives.

As a former teacher and CEO, I’ve listened to too many people blame their parents and upbringing for their bad

circumstances or negative results in life. I always listened patiently, then responded with, “Okay, that was then.

What will you do now?”

So, life’s been unfair? Join the club. You were dealt a bad hand? Get in line. Insecurity has you paralyzed with doubt?

What makes you think you are alone?

The world is crowded with people less fortunate than you who have succeeded and are living their dreams.

A LITTLE GOOD NEWS TODAY

watched an old black and white classic movie recently. It took me back to a time when we had County Fairs, when it was safe to let our children out of our sight and we trusted our neighbors. In the summer when school was out, all the kids would migrate to one street where all the boys would play football or baseball in one of the Mom’s yard. She would bring us out cold Lemonade or Kool-Aid and she didn’t seem to mind if we were ruining the grass in her yard. At night we rode bikes and played cops and robbers. We knew when it was time to come home when one of the Moms would flash on the front porch light once or twice. Back then we couldn’t wait to grow up, but now, most of

us would give anything to be young and innocent once again.

Today, I went to my favorite Feed Store. The price of the bags of feed I buy for my cows was down over a dollar. Round bales of hay were down from $110 to $40 and there was free coffee and doughnuts over at a round table where the older men played dominoes. I saw smiles on the Rancher’s faces once again and jokes were being passed around.

On Tuesday morning, the Lord spoke to me to go to the Livestock Auction Barn. I said, “I didn’t have any cows to sell and I didn’t want to buy any.” I didn’t get a reply so I drove to the Auction Barn.

I sat up high, about 3 rows from the top so I could look around the room.

of coffee he had brought from the house wh ich usua lly mea nt he couldn’t afford to buy their coffee. I seemed to be drawn to this old man and kept glancing down at him. He would bid on calves but would quickly drop out because the bids kept going up to more than he wanted to pay.

THEN THE LORD impressed on me to get up and go down there and meet the guy, then give him $300.

So, I got up, went down and sat next to the old man. You could tell that he had on the same clothes he wore the day before and maybe even the day before that. He was missing a couple of front teeth and had plenty of character lines in his face.

After a few minutes, I said to him, “I’m going for a cup a coffee, would you like a fresh cup?” He looked at me in the strangest way, then a smile came across his face and he said, “Sure.” I came back with the coffee and introduced myself to him.

Then in a few more minutes, I said, “I was sitting up there and the LORD spoke to me to give you $300 dollars.

Would it offend you if I did this?”

He tilted his head back, looked at me through his bifocals for quite a time and then quietly said, “OK.” I

handed him the check I had already written out and said it was really good meeting you.

It was time for me to go. My job was done there. I guess this is why I had a hankering to go to the Auction Barn this day.

A few days later, I got a phone call from the older Gentleman. He must have gotten my phone number off of my check. He asked if we could meet for coffee and that he had something he wanted to tell me. Over coffee, he said, “My wife is sick and I couldn’t afford the medicine she needed. I couldn’t ask God for help because I had turned my back on Him a long time ago. Then you, a stranger, came and sat next to me saying God told you to give me $300. It was just what I needed to buy the medicine and a little more. I realized that even though I had turned my back on God, that he hadn’t turned His back on me. Because of that little ol’ $300 dollars, that night I talked to God for the first time in a long time and we’re really good friends again.”

A Rabbi’s Warning to U.S. Christians

D

uring the 1930s, Winston Churchill desperately tried to persuade the English people and their government to see that Hitler meant to end their way of life. The British ignored Churchill, which gave Hitler nearly 10 years to build up his military forces. It wasn’t until Hitler actually drew blood that the British realized they had a war on their hands.

It turned out to be a far longer and more destructive war than it needed to be had Churchill’s early warning been heeded.

In 1983, a brave French writer, Jean-Francois Revel, wrote a book called How Democracies Perish. In this remarkable volume, he described how communism’s aim is world conquest.

For decades he had been trying to warn of communism’s very real threat. Yet in January 1982, a high State Department official said: “We Americans are not solving problems, we are the problem.” (Some things never change.) A good portion of the planet fell to communism, which brought misery and death to millions because we failed to recognize in time that others meant to harm us.

Heaven knows there was enough warning during the 1980s of the intention of part of the Islamic world to take yet another crack at world domination. Yet instead of seeing each

deadly assault on our interests around the world as a test of our resolve, we ignored it. We failed the test and lost 3,000 Americans in two unforgettable hours [9/11].

I am not going to argue that what is happening now is on the same scale as the examples I cite above, but a serious war is being waged against a group of Americans. I am certain that if we lose

Consider the long list of anti-Christian books that have been published in recent months.

What is truly alarming is that there are more of these books for sale at your local large bookstore warning against the perils of fervent Christianity than those warning against the perils of fervent Islam. Does anyone seriously

Some may say that today’s proliferation of anti-Christian print propaganda is nothing to become worried about. To them I ask two question:

First, would you be so sanguine if the target of this loathsome library were Jewish? Just try changing the titles in some of the books I mention above to reflect anti-Semitism instead of rampant anti-Christianism and you’ll see what I mean.

Second, major movements that changed the way Americans felt and acted came about through books, often only one book. Think of Rachel Carson’s 1962 error-filled Silent Spring that resulted in pointless banning of the insecticide DDT and many unnecessary deaths. Other books that caused upheavals in our nation were Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle, many of Ayn Rand’s books and of course Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

No, I would advise you not to underestimate the power of books to alter the behavior of the American public, and I fear for an America influenced to detest Christianity by this hate-filled catalog.

It is not just books but popular entertainment also that beams the most lurid anti-Christian propaganda into the hearts and minds of viewers. One need only think of who the real targets of the recent hit movie Borat are. The brilliant Jewish moviemaker Sacha Baron Cohen, as his title character, using borderline dishonest wiles, lures some innocent but unsophisticated country folk, obviously Christians, to SEE A RABBI’S WARNING TO U.S. CHRISTIANS | PAGE 46

Valentine, Ownership, and Cracks

alentine is a legend and saint associated with marriage and romance since 400 A.D. Millions (145) of Valentine cards are mailed each year. The power of love is both a mystery and can be nation transforming. Perhaps our greatest human need is to know we are loved.

When an individual truly knows that they are loved by an earthly parent or spouse or their spiritual Creator, their lives are lived more fruitfully.

Such truly loved people are then able and willing to love others in healthy ways.

Valentine gave soldiers a motivation to fight for their countrymen. Valentine secretly married soldiers before they left for battle. A married soldier often will fight harder because they are fighting for their family’s protection and future. In America, Biblically defined marriage is under attack.

Biblically defined families (not how the Supreme Court defines family) are the cornerstones and foundation of a healthy nation. Valentines can be used to nurture healthy love to strengthen relationships among those who love us most personally. Telling someone “I love you” must be a daily habit, not a once a year ritual.

Ownership must be part of the effort to preserve our Republic called America. When one thinks of ownership the

words accountability and responsibility must come to mind. A spouse may be responsible for the status of a relationship even if it’s not their fault that a marriage has turned sour. The blame doesn’t matter. Fault finding is backward-looking. Responsibility is forward-looking. Fixating on blame delays the corrective action required to mend a relationship. By owning the brokenness in a relationship and then taking action to repair what we can, we can help others see and believe in new possibilities.

As citizens of this great historical experiment called America, we must individually understand how our personal ownership of America’s present and future has the power to mold a better tomorrow for these fifty United States. As one example, each of us must choose how we will respond to the homelessness in our city. A story of how a six year old boy and his family, in America, raised $100,000 on a GoFundMe page by selling hand-made clay koala bears for the Australian fire victims, inspires me. The boy’s family took ownership of a need and did what they could to address the need.

What if every husband and wife took ownership of their vows and uncompromisingly agreed that the “D” word (divorce) would never be a part of their unavoidable disagreements?

Perhaps, then there would not exist the crazy statistic of 500,000 children

needing foster-care in America. Why is it that 40 percent of all children in America are now born out of wed-lock?

Men and women refuse to take ownership of their sexuality! God help us!

Cracks in anything is a sign of danger.

Was Jesus a “Good Christian”?

t has now been fifty years since I began seeing people professionally. During that time, the concerns, issues, and problems that were presented were everything I could have imagined when I started out, and many that I couldn’t have. Often, regardless of the primary issue, a person has had to deal with enormous self-criticism, if not self-contempt, because they do not believe they are acting like a good Christian.

When asked why they think that to be true, they respond by saying that they are sad, angry, anxious, fearful, distraught, feel like they cannot handle what they are faced with, think that God has turned His back on them, and they hate! Given these thoughts and feelings, they feel estranged from Him at a time in their lives when He is most needed. They believe that they are not a good Christian. After listening closely, my response is “You do know, that by your definition and standards, that Jesus was not a “good Christian” either, right? With astonished looks, they ask what I mean.

How can we read John (11:35) “And Jesus wept” and think that there is anything wrong about sadness that we may feel ourselves, or in the empathy that we feel for others as we join in their sorrow?! If someone has never experienced sorrow in their lives, it would seem that they would

in the ceiling of a home makes it clear that, most likely, there are cracks in the foundation of that home. Cracks in a marriage can take on many forms.

We are supposed to be angered by injustices, abuses, and those who lead others astray.

Regardless of how much we want to do “the Father’s will,” it does not mean that doing so is always easy. Facing the horrors that a scourging and crucifixion entail, how could anyone not feel anxious, frightened, and despair.

How could any “true man” not wish for that “cup” to pass from His hands because there does not seem to be any way to do what He is faced with doing.

It is not referred to as the “agony in the garden” without reason.

“I pray and pray, and God does not answer my prayers” is almost a universal refrain in the song of plea. It is easy for us to forget that prayers should not be intended to have God’s will become ours, but rather that we may be helped to accept His. We may experience the feeling that God does not “hear” us many times throughout

our lives but that does not make that feeling true, any more than did Jesus’ might have felt when He asked why He had been “forsaken.”

Lastly, is the issue of hate. Even if someone begins to understand that having all of the aforementioned thoughts and feelings actually make them more like Jesus and not less, they may balk at the notion that it could be “Christlike” to hate! I do not think that is true. In fact, I don’t think we can be like Jesus unless we hate.

But not how most of us think when thoughts of hatred enter our minds for it is never others that we are to hate but, instead, what some others may DO. We must always hate “sin” because sin separates us and others from ourselves, others, and, most importantly, from God. We cannot compromise with evil any more than light can be compromised by darkness.

Indeed, we have been told “You are the light of the world.” (Mathew 5:14) Evil will always hit us when we are down and try to make us feel worse about ourselves when we are feeling low by trying to convince us that we are unworthy of anything but hell. If we use the standard that our understandably normal feelings of sadness, anxiety, fear, and the thoughts that God is not there for us, is evidence that we are bad Christians, then, logically illogical, Jesus was not a good Christian either. We are given hope that we may become more Like Jesus in our journey back home because Jesus has shown us the way in becoming like us in all thoughts, all feelings, ALL things...but sin.

ceiling, a marriage or a nation will be responded to differently depending upon “ownership”. If I own my car, If I own my home, If I own, as a caring citizen, the nation I call home, if I “own” my marriage, I will act responsibly.

I will “own” the accountability and responsibility that rests within my power to repair the cracks that come to my attention.

Valentine took action to preserve the power of love. When we love our

country, we are patriots. When we love and fight for the Bible’s definition of marriage, we act like responsible Christian citizens. When we defend the American constitution, as written by our nation’s founders, we are conservatives. Cracks in the unity of a nation reveal themselves in the language used in our public discourse. Facts can be ignored, buried, or twisted. The pursuit of political power too often overrides the pursuit of truth.

As we reflect upon the life of a man named Valentine, as we take ownership of our responsibilities, and as we pay attention to warning “cracks”, we can partner with the leadership of the Holy Spirit in keeping America great!

Cactus Chronicles: Prepared Christians

C

hristians worldwide are facing physical threats and persecutions which would have been unthinkable only a few short years ago. Many US citizens have stood on the sidelines or just simply looked the other way when confronted with news of terrorists attacking Christian and Jewish religious gatherings in some far off land. Now that formerly far off hatred of Christians, and Western Civilization in general, has come to American soil; thanks in no small part, to absolutely stupid and incoherent government policies. There is much evidence to support the conclusion that the outright invasion of the United States by Islamicists and other culturally hostile immigrants, has been well planned and orchestrated by atheistic internationalists intent on destroying the main beacon of individual liberty and self-determination in the world: the US. Without Christianity, there would have never been a United States of America; and without Christianity, there will, in fact, be no future United States of America, certainly not what we would recognize. And if we, as US citizens, allow the loss of our foundational faith and influence, then I suppose we will get what we deserve: slavery in a godless, tyrannical third world prison-society. But SOME of

us WILL NOT willingly cooperate in or with the utter destruction of our beloved country. Preserving the integrity and safety of our churches is paramount to the very survival of our culture and of our United States; if there was ever a time to stand up for what we believe in, it would be now!

Enter Prepared Christians. The Prepared Christians concept is an initiative to help Christian churches prepare for the possibility of a terrorist attack or other traumatic emergency. We, as Christians (or even as Americans!), can no longer afford to live our lives in blissful ignorance.

The premise is that all church congregations, as well as other social gatherings in the US, must consider protocols and courses of action to aggressively address and cope with spontaneous emergency situations or

attacks perpetrated by hostile agents.

Why? Churches have historically been places of calm and even refuge for attendees over many centuries. And in spite of cultural and political upheaval going on outside the walls, the church has often served as a place where various differences among citizens were cast aside in respect for and in deference to Almighty God. Unfortunately, in today’s world of confusion, substance abuse, and outright cultic savagery, more and more Christian gatherings are coming under physical attacks rendering horrific results. This must change.

In the past, societal restraint or civility might have helped to insure orderly and respectful behavior toward innocents. We as Christians can no longer count on this to be the norm. Indeed, innocent victims are often specifically targeted for injury or death in a perverted effort to gain notoriety and shock value for a deviant individual or culture. We can learn much from the Israeli practice of putting plans in place to protect their sacred gathering places as we can no longer ignorantly assume our local community will be immune to terrorism or other catastrophic events. It has become imperative that we establish and practice procedures to confront and neutralize threats to us and our families and friends. There are unquestionably times to “turn the other cheek”, but terrorism merits no such response. incident could be the very “medicine” to prevent an incident from happening in the first place!

Towards the goal of nullifying potentially tragic circumstances, here are ten easy to implement and practical suggestion from a number of firearms and security professionals and experts.

1. Acknowledge the fact that threats exist.

2. Establish a designated chain of command and/or cooperation for an intelligent and effective response to an emergency.

3. Arrange an overt as well as covert communication system to simultaneously inform all church teaching personnel and leadership of a threat.

4. Schedule occasional congregation and classroom reaction exercises; include evacuation and escape drills for the entire church to help prevent panic

5.Requ i re demonst rat ions of competent firearms handling and marksmanship from all designated armed responders, assign observation or “duty” or “patrol” zones and encourage familiarity with those surroundings.

6. Regularly review threat codes (suggested system of: white, yellow, orange, and red) and threat indicators along with emergency response signals and procedures for ushers and other church personnel to follow.

7. Encourage firearms training and the study of defensive techniques among church membership. Host outings to the local gun range and invite demonstrations of martial arts and other defensive tactics for members. Don’t be shy about citing Biblical references in favor of self-defense!

8. Feely publicize the church’s intent to forcefully resist on-site terrorism and state that every reasonable effort

questions are unfair and unreasonable are flooding your brain right now masquerading as legitimate justifications for why you cannot step out in faith and pursue your dreams. You aren’t equipped enough, educated enough or talented enough. Or worse, my circumstances won’t allow it or it’s all my parent’s fault.

Pull yourself out of your self-doubt and say, “I can.” Muster the courage to say, “I will.” Take a deep breath and begin right now. And please, do not say, “it’s too late!” I became a CEO at 29 years old and published my first book at age 52. I wrote my first column at age 61. Why not you?

You say it’s too hard? Of course it is!

It’s supposed to be! Great achievement comes at a great price. Price rarely refers to money but almost always to time, effort and sacrifice.

Life’s too short to settle at any age.

join him in his outrageously anti-Semitic antics. Cohen then triumphantly claims to have exposed anti-Semitism.

In fact, he has revealed nothing other than the latent anti-Christianism of America’s social, economic and academic secular elites.

Even the recent PBS documentary, “Anti-Semitism in the 21st Century: The Resurgence,” managed to do more attacking Christianity than defending Judaism.

Richard Dawkins, an Oxford University professor, is one of the generals in the anti-Christian army of the secular left. American academia treats him with reverence and hangs on his every word when he insists that “religious myths ought not to be tolerated.”

For those with a slightly more tolerant outlook, he asks, “It’s one thing to say people should be free to believe whatever they like, but should they be free to impose their beliefs on their children?” He suggests that the state should intervene to protect children from their parents’ religious beliefs.

Needless to say, he means Christian beliefs, of course. Muslim beliefs add to England’s charmingly diverse cultural landscape.

The war is against those who regard the Bible to be God’s revelation to humanity and the Ten Commandments to be His set of rules for all time. Phase one in this war is to make Christianity, well, sort of socially unacceptable.

Something only foolish, poor and ugly people could turn to.

We have seen how carefully constructed campaign pretty much made it socially unacceptable to drink and drive. For years, there had been stringent laws against drunk driving. They achieved little. In the end, the practice was all but eliminated by groups allied with Mothers Against Drunk Driving and their effective ways of changing the way Americans thought about it.

We have seen how a carefully constructed campaign has pretty much

made it socially unacceptable to smoke.

In the face of a relentless campaign (dare one call it propaganda?). Americans became docile and forfeited the right to make their own decisions.

Nobody was willing to stand up to the no-smoking tyrants. Nobody even asked whether health was sufficient grounds for freedom to be reduced.

Now, entire cities and even states have banned smoking, not only in public places but even in privately owned restaurants.

Tyranny comes when citizens are seduced into trading freedom for the promise of safety and security.

Considerably more intellectual energy is being pumped into the propaganda campaign against Christianity than was ever delivered to the anti-smoking or anti-drunk-driving campaigns. Fervent zealots of secularism are flinging themselves into this anti-Christian war with enormous fanaticism.

If they succeed, Christianity will be driven underground, and its benign influence on the character of America will be lost. In its place we shall see a sinister secularism that menaces Bible believers of all faiths. Once the voice of the Bible has been silenced, the war on Western Civilization can begin and we shall see a long night of barbarism descend on the West.

Without a vibrant and vital Christianity, America is doomed, and without America, the West is doomed.

Which is why I, an Orthodox Jewish Rabbi, devoted to Jewish survival, the Torah and Israel am so terrified of American Christianity caving in.

Many of us Jews are ready to stand with you. But you must lead. You must replace your timidity with nerve and your diffidence with daring and determination. You are under attack.

Now is the time to resist it.

these programs and requesting automatic church notification of potential threats the church would have no other way of knowing about. Also, local sheriffs may have the authority to deputize members of the congregation under special circumstances and this should avert any liability or insurance concerns.

10.Pray without ceasing!

This list of suggestions is intended to provide information to assist the security and safety of our chosen spiritual meetings. Unfortunately, most church groups have not even had “fire drills” much less any disaster response training. We as Christians and Americans no longer have the luxury of “ignorance is bliss” behavior when it comes to our places of worship. It has been proven time and time again, individuals automatically revert to their lowest level of training or

experience in an actual emergency. If there is no training at all, then people typically resort to confusion; more often than not, this leads to disaster and tragedy. Confusion is a preventable disorder for most of us if we just have proper preparation and mindset; aren’t these among the main reasons we attend church in the first place, to gain proper preparation and mindset in our Christian walk?

These described procedures may well serve to build and instill a greater sense of community and cooperation among church members as well as possibly giving an extra incentive for new and prospective members to attend services; they could also become a source of inspiration for other observant organizations to implement imitation. We want to make this information freely available to churches, Bible study groups, home school organizations, gun clubs and shooting associations, Tea Party and

civic groups, and any other interested parties which will pay attention and take heed. We are also willing to offer a national listing of firearms trainers and security personnel available to advise and train church groups.

In addition, we can provide a list of shooting and security equipment suppliers who desire Prepared Christians as customers.

We want to encourage: • Awareness and Observation of Our Surroundings.

• Identification of Potential Problems and Threats.

• Appropriate and Rapid Responsive Actions When Required.

He or she, who has given some forethought to and planning for possible emergency circumstances, will have a much better chance of surviving those difficulties.
