The image on on the bottom right states the edgy words “Hija De Su Madre” or, daughter of your mother. This statement shares the same attitude of “son of a b*tch,” and represents the young, rebellious sentiment within y2k aesthetic. The image on the bottom left showcases a huge phenomena in Mexican y2k culture - the Juicy Couture sweatsuit. Velvety, pastel, low waisted with an exposed midriff, this look works well with a mini purse.

Bright colors and matching big and bright jewelery define Y2K fashion— and this look. A bright green sweatshirt full of graffitti and “highlighted” text is paired with the popular mom jean in a light color. She wears her hair in messy pigtails, her hair a bright orange color. Taking inspiration from other popular styles in asia, like Harajuku in Japan, her hair is an unnatural color with visible dark roots showing. She pairs the bright colors of her sweatshirt with bright and kidlike facial stickers.

LONDON

On the island, in the city, lives y2k aesthetic. Color coordinated outfit sets walk the sidewalks, paid for by credit cards that sit tight in little purses that match the outfits themselves. Waist chains, as shown below, were an aesthetic venture for the brave hearted, or, one might say, the truly devoted y2k bratz. Pictured on the right is a classic rhinestone embossed mini skirt.

If we keep on like this, fashion will die.

The biggest mistake you can make in fashion is imitation.

Tokyo TOKYO 2000's

The rise of Harajuku style Harajuku has long been a fashion hub in Tokyo, and was witness to a shifting array of styles. From the beginning of the 1980s, there was retro rock n roll, the reign of designer fashion by labels such as Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garรงons, and preppy Shibuya Casual, for example.

China 中国 Highlighting the body’s form is a staple of the Y2K aesthetic. Here, she wears a black vinyl tube top paired with vinyl pants.

The pants, which fit to her waist, but expand to a wide leg ending are inspired by the popular technical wear style. Her shoes also take inspiration from the shoe style of the late 90’s and early 2000s.

Like the chunky jewelry sitting close to her neck, silver accents are seen in her outfit from the silver d-rings hangning from the belt loops, to the silver zipper running down the middle of her top. She also wears her hair in bright

blue pigtails, matching the blue of her seemingly futuristic makeup look.
