Hikurangi School children who were ineligible for the free meningococcal W vaccination will now be able to receive it thanks to the considerable efforts of the Hikurangi community. Many families in our community have been on high alert and now that we have raised the funds immunisation can begin before the start of winter. The campaign has been spearheaded by local Shona Whitehead who together with many local families and community organisations has fundraised to help keep our children safe. The next phase is obtaining consents from families/whanau who would like to have their children vaccinated and then obviously following up with the day for vaccinations to happen. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all those who have contributed to this campaign. Without your community
We would like to wish all Mothers and Grand-mothers a very Happy Day

spirit we would have not achieved this astounding result. The number of donations are too numerous to list here, but in particular we would like to mention: Hikurangi Mountain Lions Hikurangi Masonic Lodge Contributors through Facebook and
Thank you Hikurangi from the bottom of our hearts ... Healthy Hikurangi Trust
Thank you; thank you, thank you!! Again our community responds when needed. Last Friday Hikurangi Lions held its annual golf tournament to raise funds to help our own volunteer Fire & Rescue unit for the replacement of much needed equipment. This team is always there to help us day or night and is without doubt a cornerstone of our community. Some 44 players turned out to challenge the course and the changeable weather. These hardy souls battled the elements to have a wonderful day. Apart from golf they took on the boat challenge and the crazy marshmallow bash. So thank you to all the players involved. We can’t do this without your support and everyone took home something from the day. Also, none of this can happen without the fantastic support from sponsors, both commercial and all the way to families and individuals that made a donation to the cause so on behalf of the entire community - thank you. Lions makes sure that every cent raised goes back into our community. Our motto is “we serve”. We would like to thank the Hikurangi Golf Club and their team for the use of their great course and facilities and of course to our team from the BBQ’s to the challenges of the day on the to the wonderful meal prepared for the players and helpers and the prize giving, auction and raffles. Thanks to the Fire & Rescue team for their help on the day on course and in the kitchen. A real community effort for a great result. Again it shows how communities working together can achieve great results - firstly to raise funds for the menW injections where some $7200 was raised from the community to be backed up by Rotary’s kind donation and all for the purpose of our children. It’s true when they say it takes a village to raise a child. Well Easter holidays are upon us now so stay safe and have fun. We’ll see you on ANZAC day. Part of our team is away to Blenheim for a conference which we hope to hold in 2020.
