The Sounds of the Summer
Dance The Night - 5/10

Dance The Night, released by Dua Lipa as part of the Barbie (2023) soundtrack, is a punchy song that urges you to seize the moment and have fun Its upbeat production and simple lyricism keep it light and entertaining, creating an overall enjoyable but ultimately shallow experience. Its blandness makes it fly under the radar as just another pop song that unfortunately sounds just like many other Dua Lipa tracks.

Flowers - 8.25/10
Flowers is Miley Cyrus’ latest single. It’s about finding your power and confidence after a heartbreak. It’s a really lively, catchy and entertaining song and the lyrics are simple yet meaningful. Its unfortunately, a bit generic, but this allows the track top be streamed endlessly without it getting tired
Kill Bill - 7.5/10
“Kill Bill” is SZA’s second track from her most critically acclaimed album “SOS” The song has multiple references from Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 action movie with the same title. The song’s steady beats and smooth vocals from SZA carry you through a revenge story filled with her bold catchy lyrics, while the snappy detuned melody keeps you coming back for another listen.

As it was - 6.5/10
“As it was” is a song about bittersweet feelings of the past It’s high tempo and synth beat makes it reminiscent of an 80s aesthetic Its gossipy lyrics make it an interesting listen, it is more a personal story telling about a bad break up than an unclear metaphor However, its repetitive lyrics and rythm make it sound commercial and boring It lacks spontaneity and originality, we’ve all heard sad break up songs a million times
By Sofía Caulfield, Gonzalo Iranzo, Elisa Toledano and Lilian GearingSummer Must-sees
Juno - 8.25/10
The film Juno is about a precocious teen that gets pregnant at the early age of 16 At the start she is not sure she will go through with the pregnancy but she decides to have the baby and give it up for adoption to a couple she finds in an advert in the Pennysaver: Mark, a failed rock star, and his wife Vanessa It’s a coming of age, quirky film that deals with teenage pregnancy and will surely bring a laugh out of you

Derry girls - 8.75/10

Derry girls is a show about a group of friends in Northern Ireland in the 90s Every character is so different with a differing story and voice, they feel like genuine teenagers that you can relate to They end up in hilarious situations from helping burglars steal their school’s computers to accidentally drugging one of their grandparents, which makes for a nonstop laugh The only flaw of this series is its lack of consistency, some episodes are more entertaining, but overall it makes for a perfect mix of comedy and drama
Dead Poets Society - 8/10

Released in 1989, Dead Poets Society follows a young adult poetry club encouraged to break the rules and seize the day by their English teacher (Robin Williams) It’s a deeply touching movie that tackles themes such as growing up, first loves and parental pressures. It’s very outdated because of its a poor portrayal of women and outdated stereotypes but overall has a lasting impression on its viewers, inspiring them to become interested in literature.
Stranger Things - 7.5/10

Stranger Things is a Netflix smash hit released in 2016, about a small midwestern town in the 1980's involving superpowers and secret experiments The show's unique plot keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next thrilling scene to happen while interesting characters drive the plot forward and make it an enjoyable watch.

It's a hilarious take on country life written with humor. Andy enjoys this book because (according to him) it’s the funniest book ever written and a satire written in the 1800s which is still true today.

SALLY
Sally’s favourite book is 'The East of Eden', written by John Steinbeck, a story about life in California, the essence of being human, religion and family. This is her favourite book because of the amusing characters and the interesting setting and time.

Mireia’s favourite book is 'Don Quixote', written by Miguel de

It’s a novel which portrays the life and adventures of a Spanish man named Don Quixote de la Mancha who seems to be losing his mind on his journey to become a knight along with his squire Sancho Panza. For Mireia, this is a perfect book because of its funny nature and how the story shows two sides in life; the realistic side and the idealist side.
PAUL CAULFIELD
Paul Caulfield’s favorite book is 'The Catcher in the Rye', written by J.D.Salinger, a novel which tells the adventures of Holden Caulfield, a teenager who spends a weekend alone in New York City highlighting the existential questions of morality and identity. This is his ideal book because it resonated with him as a teenager and he really related to the main character’s voice.

PHIL
Phil’s favourite book is the 'Sherlock Holmes' series, written by Arthur Conan Doyle, which is about a young adult in the 1800’s who works as a detective in London solving murders and mysteries. It’s a classic novel that speaks about the many troubles of that time. This series of novels is Phil’s favourite choice because he likes where it’s set in time and place.

Paul Love’s favourite book is 'Slaughterhouse-Five', written by Kurt Vonnegut, which tells the story of Billy Pilgrim, a man that is captured during WWII by the Germans and his journey throughout his life both before and after the war, and his travels to the planet Tralfamadore. Paul thinks this is the perfect book as it has what all good stories need: laughs, sadness, time travel and people dying.

DAN
Dan’s favourite book is 'High Fidelity', a novel about the life of Rob Fleming and his struggles to handle his breakup with Laura and his failing record shop. This is the book he most likes because it’s based in London and it’s funny.

NOEMI
Noemi’s favourite book is 'Wonder', written by R.J Palacio, which tells the story of August Pullman, a boy that was born with a severe facial difference and how because of this he wasn't able to attend a mainstream school. However, against all odds, he starts 5th grade at Beecher Prep hoping he'll be able to have a normal life and be treated like a normal kid.
