WELCOME

As David Bowie once said “turn and face the strange, ch-ch-ch-changes”... and changes are definitely the order of business this September. Back in February we were granted license alterations to enable us to extend our opening hours, and open to passing trade, a crucial upgrade for our small independent cinema.

We’ve been closed through August to allow us to make some interior tweaks and we will be open again from 7th September, with the red tape finally lifted and The Northern Light Cinema 2.0 ready to receive you.

We couldn’t have picked a better time either, with the annual Wirksworth Festival kicking off from 6th September. With that in mind we have a week long programme of mixed arts with live music, poetry and theatre making use of our cinema space, as well as some big outdoor screenings.

And how could we forget about the films!? This time of year is typically the beginning of the Oscars run in and we have some real gems in store for you; with the much anticipated big screen arrival of Downton Abbey; Renée Zellweger as Judy Garland in the aptly named Judy; and Quentin Tarantino’s golden age of cinema satire Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

It’s good to be back, so come on down and pay us a visit, and see how good we’re looking!
