Sustainability and Social Value
Paula Rosa Manhattan and the whole of the Ballingslöv Group are well on their way to their initial target of being climate neutral, with an expectation that this will be achieved in 2022.
Sustainability and social value aims are key aspects for public sector clients and our targets are wholly supportive in achieving these. Creating products that also increase value for money based on lifetime cost and recyclability, shows us to be a forward-thinking and sustainable partner.
Some of the steps we have taken as a business to meet our sustainability targets include:

100% of

The electricity we use to run our manufacturing site in Lancing comes from 100% renewable sources.

Waste
100% of our timber process waste is sent for energy recovery and cardboard now replaces the polystyrene once used packaging our doors and is collected for recycling.

Local Community
Through both employment and by working with our own and our clients local communities and organisations we aim to have a lasting positive impact.

Energy Consumption
We have upgraded all of the lighting in our manufacturing and warehouse facility to LED, saving 150,000kwh per year.

Our People Using Great Place to Work surveys to identify key improvement areas. We are committed to creating an environment where every employee can work at their best.

End-to-end benefits
We have been surveying, designing, manufacturing and supplying kitchens for our main housing associations for more than 10 years. They are all more than happy to provide references to support the high standard and consistency of our products and services. This has allowed us to build strong and long lasting relationships with working practices that provide end-to-end benefits.

Our build to delivery service Our fleet of 36 liveried lorries have removable containers which are preloaded in the despatch area for onward transport across the whole of the UK mainland. All kitchen components are scanned on and off our vehicles giving visibility and assurance that the kitchens have been delivered on time and in full.
We currently deliver to a range of facilities for our customers, which includes their own central stores, specific properties or storage providers such as Builders Merchants.
We also deliver kitchens into major high-rise projects where logistics are challenging, but when planned appropriately they progress smoothly.
We generally deliver to all mainland UK postcodes twice weekly, with the potential for special deliveries in between.
We also have a fleet of vans available where access is more restricted. For example, narrow lanes and access roads.
Client portal allowing you to track and manage your project
We operate an extranet based on Microsoft SharePoint to support communication with our customers.
This is populated and updated with the delivery dates for orders, giving online visibility for those granted access. Our central co-ordinator will also be available on the telephone.

Benefits to the residents
Sustainable 16mm carcass that uses 11% less timber than the 18mm equivalent and meets all the highest British and European standards for a product of its type.
The 16mm carcass is designed and proven to provide robust and long-lasting kitchens, used by Housing Associations with whom we have working relationships of more than 10 years.
The 16mm carcass reduces the weight of units by 11% improving manual handling whist also maintaining a rigid construction for ease of fitting.
How we work
Our surveyors are all fully kitted and trained with laptop, printer and design software. The software provides not only the CAD design and quotation but also fully rendered pictorial representation of the finished kitchen and 3D virtual tour.

Initial planning of the scale of work and booking appointments
We would normally agree an outline kitchen replacement programme with you to identify numbers, contact details and locations. We would agree a delivery priority and it is usual for you to advise your residents, in advance of our communication with them, of the intent and approximate timing.
From the agreed information our surveyors with their survey co-ordinator assemble a weekly diary of planned appointments. They will try to build a plan which will target completion of as many as possible surveys, within a manageable geographic area, to limit the non-productive travel time. This allows them to maximise their surveying time and can generally survey 20 properties a week each.
WE CURRENTLY COMPLETE IN EXCESS OF 2000 SURVEYS A YEAR. MOST OF THESE COMPLETED TO SUIT THE TIMESCALES DRIVEN BY ANNUAL PLANS, BUDGETING AND INSTALLATION SUPPLIER PROCUREMENT.

In direct contact with the residents
Our survey co-ordinator will then contact the residents to arrange appointment dates and times for our surveyors. This includes a call-ahead on the day by either the surveyor or co-ordinator. Keeping records of those they can contact and those they cannot. This allows our surveyors to focus on surveying and design, making best use of their skills and experience.
Our survey co-ordinator is also the point of contact for residents should they want advice or circumstances change.
Completing
the survey
They always attend properties with their photo ID and PPE, which includes gloves and over shoes. They will introduce themselves and explain the process to the resident and gather any thoughts and preferences, before commencing their survey. Once the survey is complete, they will then explain and review the plan and the range selector, so the resident can ask any questions and make their choices.
Our surveyors have small samples that can be viewed for colour and feel. They carry their own laptop, printer and design software, allowing them to input initial information and leave a draft wire frame diagram of the surveyed kitchen for the resident.
Finalising design and costs on our client portal
During the week, they will finalise all their designs, which also builds the quotations. At this stage we are able to provide a rendered picture and virtual tour of the kitchen.
The quotations and designs will then be submitted to you for their review and subsequent order confirmation. These can be delivered by email but we generally establish a dedicated client portal on Microsoft SharePoint Extranet to which we upload designs and quotations. These are loaded by address reference and can only be accessed by agreed authorised individuals.
