For many older adults, a Life Plan Community offers an answer. Life Plan Communities are designed to provide a full continuum of living options, from independent living to assisted living, memory care, long-term care, and skilled nursing. But beyond services, these communities offer something even more valuable: a way to live fully today while planning wisely for tomorrow.
Connection is central to well-being at every stage of life. In a Life Plan Community, opportunities for social interaction, learning, fitness, and creativity are built into daily life. Research shows that staying socially active supports cognitive health, emotional resilience, and even physical strength. For over five decades, Edmond Mobile Meals has been a lifeline for the homebound elderly and disabled in Edmond. Founded in 1974, this volunteer-driven organization has delivered over 1.3 million meals, ensuring that vulnerable seniors receive nutritious food, companionship, and well-being checks.
The senior population is the fastest growing demographic in the United States. As the need for these services continues to grow, Edmond Mobile Meals remains steadfast in its mission to support Edmond’s seniors with compassion, care, and healthy meals.
The program plays a crucial role in helping seniors maintain their independence and dignity. Edmond Mobile Meals provides food security among Edmond’s most at-risk residents. Clients are served immediately upon enrollment without any waiting list. Often a family member, home health nurse, hospice nurse or other caregiver refers the client to our service to help the senior re-
main living independently at home for as long as possible. The program serves individuals facing chronic health conditions, mobility challenges, and post-surgery recovery, ensuring they receive the nourishment and human connection necessary to thrive. Each weekday, volunteers deliver an average of 300 meals each day to homebound clients across 100 square miles in Edmond, along with 160 weekend meals for those who need them most.
What sets Edmond Mobile Meals apart is its dedication to service without financial barriers. Regardless of a client’s ability to pay, they receive a nourishing meal, a friendly visit, and a safety check—addressing three of the most pressing concerns for aging individuals: poor nutrition, social isolation, and a declining quality of life. It’s volunteers and donors alike are the backbone of this essential community program, proving that simple acts of kindness can make all the difference.
Community care for the independent spirit.
A home should be a place of comfort, connection, and dignity—especially for those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Thoughtful changes to an environment can ease confusion, promote independence, and enhance well-being. Whether you’re caring for a loved one or supporting someone with dementia, small adjustments can make a big difference in their daily life.
Make signage clear – Use large, high-contrast fonts for better visibility and comprehension.
Declutter and simplify – Keep spaces organized and free from unnecessary items that could cause confusion.
Create familiarity – Arrange furniture in a predictable manner and display meaningful mementos.
Let in the light – Maximize natural sunlight and use soft, warm lighting to improve navigation and mood.
Reduce noise – Minimize background sounds and echoes to lower stress and improve focus.
Prioritize safety – Install grab bars, secure rugs, and use non-slip flooring to prevent falls.
Incorporate texture – Soft fabrics, weighted blankets, and comforting materials provide sensory reassurance.
Offer visual cues – Calendars, clocks, and familiar landmarks help with orientation and daily routines.
Take a walk through your space with fresh eyes. Are there tripping hazards? Is the lighting too harsh? Are familiar objects easy to find? Small, thoughtful adjustments create an environment where individuals with dementia feel safe, engaged, and valued.

spinal stability and postural control, as part of our core. The pelvic floor is involved in sexual function and maintains circulation, acting as a sump pump to move blood and lymph fluid back up into the trunk. It also plays a role in breathing and regulating intraabdominal pressure.
The pelvic floor is an important part of our body. When it stops working optimally, it can be due to muscle weakness, difficulty relaxing the muscles, or inability to coordinate the muscles appropriately. Nerve injury, connective tissue laxity, and nervous system dysregulation can also affect pelvic floor function. These issues can result in incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, urinary tract infection symptoms, prostatitis symptoms, constipation, and sexual dysfunction. Chronic pain in your back, hip, tailbone, SI joint, or groin may be related to pelvic floor dysfunction as well.
Pelvic floor dysfunction indicators
such as incontinence, constipation, prolapse, and pelvic discomfort may be common as we age due to changing hormones, surgeries, and medical conditions. However, these things should not be considered normal or thought of as something you must endure for the rest of your life. You should not have to limit your hobbies, traveling or anything you love to do.
You can improve the quality of your life by seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist to regain your pelvic floor function and return to your favorite activities. Pelvic floor physical therapists have specialized training in addition to a physical therapy degree. They are experts in movement and pelvic floor dysfunction, with the goal of restoring function so you can live your ideal life. They are also trained to identify signs and symptoms that warrant a referral to your medical provider for further evaluation.
Navigating daily life can become increasingly difficult for older adults who choose to age in the comfort of their own homes. Even if medical care isn't needed, many seniors benefit from having a personal caregiver to assist with daily tasks, ensure safety, and provide emotional support.
