As local schools prepare for the 2025-26 year, each district also has important information and updates.
Renovations:
Construction at Charter Oak Elementary is continuing with the addition of six classrooms expected to be completed by the end of the fall semester.
Concrete work and curbing is ongoing at Cotteral for both the playground and drop-off/pick-up lanes, bus lanes, and parking lots. “Due to recent rainfall, the playground might not be quite ready,” the school stated. “If necessary, students will be bused to the park for recess (as we did last year) until the playground equipment is installed.”
Cashion Public Schools
Superintendent Shane Hood said that a couple of renovations should be ready not long after the school year begins.
“We passed the bond last school year to build a new high school addition and a new football field house with weight training facilities for the district,” Hood said. “And then we also went out and secured a lease purchase to move our football field inside of our track, and also to upgrade our softball facility with turf and some other amenities.”
Hood said the plan is for the football field to be completed by the end of August. The softball field, he said, should be ready around August 17.
Crescent Public Schools is also seeking to update their facilities with a bond issue that is set to be voted for on August 12. The bond is for $2,100,000 and is intended to help with district-wide improvements and purchases in school transportation. Voters will be choosing to pass two propositions for this bond (without any tax implications).
Proposition No. 1 includes:
Ag facility improvements; district-wide HVAC installations; site enhancements such as new fencing and playground improvements; athletic equipment improvements, such as light poles and scoreboards, and upgrades to furniture, fixtures, and equipment districtwide. This is estimated at $1,560,000.

Wright is encouraging local businesses, churches and community organizations to host a blood drive. Those interested can apply at redcrossblood.org and collaborate with Red Cross staff to organize a blood drive in

Tractor Supply Company Awards Grant to Crescent Veteran to Support Farming Venture
Submitted
Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO), the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States, and the Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC), have awarded veteran Jeffrey Vialard in Crescent $1,000 to support his farm, Rocking V Ranch.
The grant is part of Tractor Supply’s $100,000 donation to FVC’s Fellowship Fund, which provides direct assistance to veterans in their beginning years of farming or ranching. Jeffrey is one of 50 veterans to receive a $1,000 Tractor Supply gift card to purchase items crucial to supporting their farm business.
“At Tractor Supply, our ability to serve our nation’s veterans who live and love Life Out Here is due in large part to their sacrifice,” said Colin Yankee, executive vice president and chief supply chain officer at Tractor Supply and former U.S. Army Captain. “It is our honor to support them as they navigate their next chapter as civilians, especially when it comes to farming and ranching. Whether it’s helping them get the tools and equipment needed to get their operation off the ground, funding a FVC training session or providing some friendly advice, Tractor Supply and its Team Members are thrilled to help.”
said FVC Executive Director Jeanette Lombardo. “TSC is not only a longtime supporter of the FVC, but daily they walk alongside our members as they grow and expand their operations. They have become an integral partner and assisting us in achieving our mission throughout the country.”

year will bring.
Despite undergoing cancer treatments, Rhonda declared, “I’m going to see Alaska!”
On a scorching July 22 at the Logan County Fairgrounds in Guthrie, about 500 people gathered with a shared purpose at the Rally for Rhonda event, raising $8,200. Rhonda and her sister, Cindy, wanted to thank everyone for their contributions, prayers and support. Cindy, holding back tears of appreciation, spoke about the dedication of the food truck vendors who tirelessly cooked and served under the relentless hundred-degree heat at the rally. Rhonda and Cindy also wanted to express
their gratitude to the vendors who generously donated 15% of their sales during the event, ensuring Rhonda would be able to take a cruise to Alaska and have the chance to see the majestic humpback whales.
Since the age of 19, Rhonda has devoted herself to caring for the elderly in Guthrie, through nursing homes, home health care, hospice care, and the health department. Her impact on the lives she has touched is immeasurable. As Rhonda embarks on this journey, we send our warmest wishes. May this trip be filled with unforgettable moments, woven with love and resilience.

Election Day Reminders for August 12 Voting
With the August 12 Election approaching, County Election Board officials are reminding voters of Election Day laws.
EARLY VOTING BEGINS
THURSDAY
Early voting begins Thursday, August 7 for voters in Logan County. Logan County Election Board Secretary Sheleen Winscott, said early voting is open to all voters. “You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early. Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted by the County Election Board or State Election Board—from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on Election Day or who want to avoid long lines,” Winscott said.
Early voting is available Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Logan CEB Early Voting Area located at 219 S. Broad St., Guthrie, OK 73044. Winscott reminds voters that early voting is not available at polling locations.
Some voters may need assistance to vote because they are blind or visually disabled, physically disabled or infirmed, or illiterate. Such individuals may request to have an assistant or vote privately and independently using the ATI device attached to the voting device. Those who require assistance should talk to their precinct
official or contact the County Election Board directly for instructions.
REQUEST AN EMERGENCY BALLOT FOR THE AUGUST 12 ELECTION
Registered voters who become physically incapacitated after 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 28 and are unable to make it to the polls, still have an opportunity to cast their ballot. Logan County Election Board Secretary Sheleen Winscott, said that state law permits voters who become emergency incapacitated after 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 28 to vote under special provisions. Winscott said emergency incapacitation is something most voters don’t think about. “Voting is our constitutional right, but life happens. Injury, illness, or even childbirth can prevent a voter from being able to go to the polls. That’s why it’s important to make sure voters know their rights in the event of an emergency.”
If you or someone you know becomes physically incapacitated after 5:00 p.m. July 28, contact your County Election Board as soon as possible. Winscott said Election Board officials will work with you to make sure you have all of the necessary information to cast your ballot.
PERSONS ALLOWED
INSIDE ELECTION
ENCLOSURE
It is a crime for any person other than voters and election officials to remain within 30 feet of a ballot box while an elec-
tion is in place. Additionally, it is unlawful for any person other than election officials and voters to be inside the election enclosure where voters are checked in, issued ballots, and vote. This law is not intended to include minor children who accompany voters to their voting location.
A news reporter or photographer may, while covering the election being conducted, be allowed inside the election enclosure for no more than five (5) minutes. The reporter or photographer shall not interfere with voters or election officials and shall neither observe any individual voter while the voter marks a ballot, nor photograph any voter who is marking a ballot.
ILLEGAL VOTING
It is a crime to vote more than once at any election, or vote in a precinct after having transferred your voter registration to a new precinct, or vote knowing that you are not eligible. It is also unlawful to vote and submit an absentee ballot issued to another person.
ELECTIONEERING
Electioneering is advocating for or against a candidate or issue that is on the ballot. It is a crime to electioneer within 300 feet of any ballot box while an election is in progress.
Electioneering can be verbal or it can include displaying items such as signs, pamphlets, tshirts, buttons or hats. If voters are unsure wheth-
er or not their clothing or accessories would constitute an election crime, it is recommended that those items be left at home.
PRINTED MATERIAL
No printed material other than that provided by the election board shall be publicly placed or exposed within 300 feet of any ballot box while an election is in progress. Voters may, however, bring personal notes to assist them with their election choices while they are marking their ballot. Personal notes must remain concealed at all other times while inside the election enclosure.
PHOTOGRAPHS AND DISCLOSURE OF VOTE
A voter may take a digital image or photograph of their marked ballot while inside the election enclosure. However, it is unlawful for voters to post the image or photograph on social media or otherwise distribute or disclose how they voted until they have left the election enclosure.
ELECTION
INTERFERENCE
It is a misdemeanor to interfere with the orderly and lawful conduct of an election.
No one, including a lawfully appointed watcher or exit pollster may interfere with a registered voter who is attempting to vote, or may attempt to influence the vote of a person by means of force or intimidation. This includes activity both before and during an election.
POLLSTERS
An “exit pollster” is a person who receives an official commission from the County Election Board Secretary to conduct “polls” or interviews of voters leaving the polling place. No pollster shall be permitted within 50 feet of any ballot box while an election is in progress and shall be limited to written polling materials.
Any person conducting an exit poll within 300 feet of any ballot box shall display identification provided by the Secretary of the County Election Board. Voters are not required to participate in exit polls.
INTOXICATION
It is unlawful to take intoxicating liquors of any kind or quantity to within one-half mile of any polling place on
an Election Day. Additionally, no person shall attend an election or be within 300 feet of a polling place in an intoxicated condition on an Election Day.
REPORTING POTENTIAL CRIMES
Voters who believe an election crime is being committed, should contact their county election board or local law enforcement while the act is in progress or as soon as possible. Be prepared to provide as much information and documentation as possible. For more information or to report a potential violation of election law, contact the Logan County Election Board at (405) 282-1900 or logancounty@elections. ok.gov.

American Legion’s Vision Unfolding
Guthrie American Legion Post No. 58 is moving forward with an ambitious multi-phase development on nine acres at 125 Rush Road, aimed at serving veterans and the wider community.
Chaplain and Community Engagement Officer
Steven Sibley outlined the Legion’s plan, which includes an assembly hall, office building, outdoor recreation center, Veterans Park, an RV park, and tiny homes for veterans.
“My dream is to create a space where veterans can bring their children and grandchildren,” Sibley said. “The young ones can interact with older veterans, learn about their experiences and contributions, and teenagers learn about military service and the opportunity for a debt-free college education.”
In December 2024, the Legion, a 501(c)(19) nonprofit, purchased the site outright and relocated there in February 2025. Phase 1 encompasses an assembly hall and an office building. Funds for construction have been secured through borrowing against equity, member labor donations, a private gift for the office building, and a grant from The Home Depot Foundation.
The assembly hall, which features a kitchen and additional rest-
rooms to accommodate reunions, craft shows and other events, is on track for completion by October 1. Rental income from the hall is expected to bolster ongoing project costs.
Once the assembly hall and offices are finished, the Legion will develop a dedicated parking area. Phase 2 includes grant research conducted by a professional writer, as well as calls for an outdoor recreation center featuring BBQ pits, cornhole lanes, sand volleyball, Frisbee golf, horseshoes, and potentially a pickleball court, all slated for completion sometime in 2026.
Longer-term objectives over the next two to five years include finishing Veterans Park, constructing veteran-only tiny homes, and opening a 10-stall RV park. Projections suggest that the RV park could generate $60,000 to $100,000 annually. Sibley said the Legion will soon meet with city officials to secure the necessary permits and approvals.
“We are in a major recruiting mode now, simply because we need more help,” Sibley said. “Any veteran can be a member along with their spouse, children or grandchildren. We’re also creating a new group called the Patriot Corps, who are simply civilian supporters of our country, the consti-
tution and veterans.”
For information on volunteering or making a donation, please get in touch with Steven Sibley at 918-404-0807 or steven.t.sibley.vet@
gmail.com. Another way to learn more is to attend one of the Thursday morning donuts and coffee gatherings at the American Legion.
