Paula García-Valdecasas Vilanova Barcelona, Spain. 01.03.1988 Mobile: 07944408756 Email: p.gvaldecasasvilanova@gmail.com Qualified Architect/ Architect part III/part II London, UK. 20/02/2014 Recruitment Team. David Chipperfield Architects 11 York Road London SE1 7NX Dear Recruitment team,

My name is Paula Garcia Valdecasas Vilanova. I write to you because I appreciate your projects and work ethics and I would like to join your London studio as an architectural assistant (part II) with not a specific salary conditions. Working for a company that manages big public projects with different partners stands out for me as it is in line with my personal character and current way of life. I am interested in landscape and challenging ideas that mind the city as well as its architecture. I have got a lot of experience with detailed design drawings in Autocad, residence projects and hand drawings (Perspective). I am a spontaneous and artistic with good teamwork abilities, communication and optimism. Although my experience is not extended, I ensure It was invested in extra educational programs like workshops, advertising courses, languages and long trips to see the northern lights, Japan, USA, etc. getting to know the different atmospheres that architects may consider everyday. I am hard-working and self-motivated young architect, conscious that discipline, hard work and tidiness are values that guarantee success. I also had some experience in London UK to design a hospital skyscraper next to “Guy´s hospital” in order to study skyscraper´s utility in the future for health care demands. It was a workshop organized by “Architects for health” sponsored by “Brookfield Multiplex” and collaboration with Guy´s and St Thomas foundation. I often express projects with big perspectives that show up the main idea. I come from a solid academic background in Barcelona having completed my degree in Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalogne (ETSAB, UPC), the 5th of November 2013. It has made me work in different sized teams, and developed my capacity to solve problems with determination. I also had the opportunity to study an academic year at the Public University of Belgium (ULB) in Brussels, 2010-2011. This year gave me the opportunity to get in touch with the European culture. I worked in different design phases of large and medium-scaled projects. Renowned architects discussed my projects, and I experienced different approaches towards architectural and eco-friendly design. I also worked in Nuñez y Navarro firm, which gave me the opportunity to get in touch with the real architectural practice.
I would welcome an opportunity to further discuss my experience and portfolio with you so that I can improve your expectations. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, best regards.

Paula García Valdecasas Vilanova.

01.-Tower of health Workshop. Hospital in skyscraper next to the Guy´s tower “Architects for health” and “Brockfield Multiplex”. South Bank University. London, United Kingdom January, 2014 We are proposing a building that is forever capable of change. A building that uses modular designs with flexible stackable units that connect on a central core. This maximizes space for structural changes based on market demands and the shift in needs of the users. The module units will provide a way for Guys Hospital to be flexible with the fluctuation of the economy and the evolving demographics of the users, with out disturbing the current care programs. With the needs of the client and the space given, vertical design was the most viable option.

02. -Football Stadium

Final project. Parc del Poble Nou, Barcelona. Tribunal: Elias Torres, Lluis Clotet, Jorge Blasco, Felix Pardo. ETSAB, UPC. Barcelona, Spain. 2013 This project has been projected minding urban and architectural requirements. Barcelona follows a regulation established by “cerdà” which organize de city in a regular network with a cell that we call “manzana”. It also respects the heritage of several roads that used to be very important. “Pere IV” is one of these roads. It is going to help us to organize the area as well as a second axis from north to south that follows Cerda´s regulations. To be consequent with architectural requirements, there will be an element that repeats all over the second axis. It is a fence that creates an access to the building and also belongs to the façade. So we have a path full of dynamism for pedestrians. Arcades are made of concrete and this façade is made with steel vertical bands that belong to the sequence of the pedestrian´s path.

The arcade has two main corridors for two different programmes: Public space and changing rooms. On the ground floor there is the public space that allow the pedestrians circulate in two senses: through the flight of steps and in a transversal way. The corridor is quite accessible in order to keep contact with exterior. It is shown in one of the photos. On the under ground there are the changing rooms. They have the access in both sides of the building and the corridor connects all the services through. It belongs to the football players. This corridor also belongs to the building across the street where there are the changing rooms from the young football´s school. That way both buildings are connected under ground to share a common activity when there is not a match going on.

03.-Theatre with residence

“Plan od service on the ground floor” In the“plaça de la hispanitat” Diagonal con Aragón, Barcelona. Tribunal: Elias Torres; Carme riba, Carlos Muro, Ton Salvador”. ETSAB, UPC. Barcelona, Spain. 2011-2012 This project has been made in two phases: The first one according to a regulation that depends on the sound we have got around. There are two type of sounds: noise coming from the cars or the uses created for the pedestrians in public spaces. Here we have got a plan of the ground floor with the information of the different uses of the buildings. The more colour the more public; and the more deep the more accessible for the citizen. For example, a grocery store would be in red colours whereas banks or lobbies would be in black colours. The project will be opened to the public space, but also protected from the noise from the traffic on the road. So we might think of a residence that has its main façade looking inside. It gets involved to the use on the ground floor, as well as itself gives a use for the public space we have got around. .

10-11

Perspective of public space. This project has a private and public part which are related in a community space. The residence has different types of housing in order to give to the place more interest. It is important that people who lives in the residence get involved with the theatre on the ground floor, that way everything is a unit of conviviality always guarding the privacy everyone need. so It is interesting that every apartment has a terrace or box from which is possible to watch this excellent space. There are “Duplex” and “simplex”. Simplex have an studio to work on something related to public programme and there are duplex which often are more private.

FRESCO OF 10m X 3m. Acrilic and watercolors. Fourth course. Erasmus.«ARTS ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPE»: Crisis and Globalisation Professors: Patric Neirinck, Emilio Lopez, Jullie Martenau. La Cambre, ULB. Brussels, Belgium. 2010-2011. This project Consists on a first deep analysis of the river “Meuse” in order to make an approach in every city it is carrying. This “fresco” on a wall of 10 m long, was a first analysis that represents this river and the different cities and countries It is carrying. (“Bruegel“ paints in a surreal way in order to have all the information.) The projects along the river are trying to reorganize industrial zones.

05.-“Multi-family dwellings between party walls”

Third course. Project VI Paula Garcia Valdecasas + Raul Alvarez castiello. Via Augusta Barcelona, Spain. 2009-2010 This project consists on multi-family dwellings between party walls with a school on the ground floor. Every dwelling has a standard unit that can grow in a flexible way depending on its use. Depending on the party wall they are placed the direction of the structure is also different due to the orientation and the sun . The north building is half floor taller in order to keep the privacy of both façades.
