MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Neighbors,

As I have written on several occasions, careful evaluation is necessary before casting your ballots for the four (4) Board seats that will be filled by four of the eight (8) candidates running for your Board of Directors.

Hopefully, you attended the Candidate Forum held last month at which time you carefully listened to the views of all who are asking for your vote. I personally have participated in four (4) or five (5) of these forums, and it is not too difficult to anticipate the thrust of the questions asked. However, you have now seen the demeanor, style and heard the reasons why each candidate believes they can add value to this community Frankly, many of us have our favorites, and it is extremely important that the makeup of the Board reflect your values.

Let me remind you that the seven (7) members you elect have an enormous responsibility to fiscally manage your money, so that values increase, along with a myriad of other issues. Any issue that comes before the Board is given the due diligence necessary to make a decision that benefits the whole community, not just a few One significant question is, are new board members willing to commit in achieving their DCAL certification which demands 28 hours of educational matters relating to the running of a successful HOA?

I sincerely hope that you will do your own careful analysis as to what you want your Board of Directors to look like, as we continue to shine in many ways reinforcing the Community Association's Institute's (CAI's) recognition honoring Sun City Aliante as the Outstanding Large HOA Association in Southern Nevada. Your decisions will be announced next month at the May 8 Board of Directors meeting which begins at 12:15 p.m. See you there.

We are proud to announce that Sun City Aliante has won the Community Associations Institute (CAI) as the 2023 Southern Nevada Outstanding Large Association of the Year This is the sixth consecutive year our community has been considered for this prestigious award (the equivalent of the “CAI Oscar”). Sun City Aliante was nominated and won the award for 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. In 2020, we were nominated for this award.

APRIL - A TIME TO CELEBRATE

April is Volunteer Appreciation month throughout our nation. Volunteerism is an act of selflessly helping others. The documented history of volunteering can be traced to the Revolutionary War when civilians helped to support the war effort.

Volunteerism has progressively evolved and most nonprofit organizations depend on people willing to donate their time, talents and energy to assist in moving the vision of their companies forward. Sun City Aliante is very fortunate to have a cadre of volunteers who help our management team keep the sun shining in our community. Thank you to every Standing and Ad-hoc Committee member, Club and Special Interest Group facilitator, Neighborhood Watch Block Captains, Library Organizers, Board of Directors and that group of SuperVolunteers who assist the Lifestyle Department with the varied activities sponsored in our community Please know each of you are appreciated for your individual efforts and collective commitment. I want to encourage you to continue in service to our association and our larger community If you desire to volunteer your time and talents in our local community, please speak to any Lifestyle staff member who serve at the Front Desk of our community center or check the SCAL website www.suncityalainte.org for committee openings. If you desire an opportunity to volunteer in our surrounding areas, please visit www.volunteermatch.org

Earth Day is also celebrated in April and provides an excellent opportunity to volunteer in our community Earth Day was officially founded by then Senator Gaylord Nelson from Wisconsin in the Spring of 1970 to ensure that taking care of our planet and our local environments stayed at the forefront of the National Environment forum. As we celebrate on April 22 the theme is “Planet vs. Plastics”. Earthday.org, one of the major education websites for this day, is advocating for the widespread awareness on the health risks of plastics, rapidly phasing out all single use plastics, pushing for a strong United Nations Treaty on plastic pollution and a demand to end fast fashion with more sustainable fabric development. The current goal is to see a 60% reduction in all plastic production by the year 2040.

There are many things that can be done to support Earth Day's 2024 theme of reduction in plastic use. Begin with educating yourself on the use of plastic. www.earthday.org was an excellent source for me as I began my research on how I can help our world. A few other actions that can be easily implemented are switching to using reusable grocery bags and the use of a refillable water container Other suggested activities are joining a clean-up event in a local park or pick up litter in your neighborhood, plant a tree, plant flowers that bring pollenating creatures to your garden, take a virtual tour of our National Parks and you can always donate to causes that support the health of our environment. Here are a few local events that are available to the public:

• April 19 -Earth Day Park Clean-up, Mountain's Edge Regional Park

• April 26- Arbor Day Tree Planting, University of Nevada

• April 27- Arbor Day, Run for Earth Las Vegas

There are so many opportunities to give back to our community and what better time than now Audrey Hepburn said it best, “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands – one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.”

UPDATE ON BOARD ELECTION, BUDGET PROCESS AND CURRENT PROJECTS

Dear Residents,

I would like to give you an update on upcoming important dates and projects that have been completed or being worked on to enhance, maintain, or improve the value of our community Even if you seldom visit the Community Center or p a r t i c i p a t e i n t h e m a n y e v e n t s a n d activities normally offered to all residents, you will benefit from the projects and dates listed below.

2024 Board of Directors Election – I hope you had an opportunity to attend the Candidate's Forum held on March 9 in the Vista Room. Homeowners were encouraged to attend as well as submit questions in advance for consideration. This was a great opportunity to meet all the candidates. We will mail ballots to by early April. The deadline for ballot submission is Wednesday, May 8 at 8 a.m. Details of the Annual Meeting and other election information are included on page 8 and 9 of The Breeze.

DATES

TO REMEMBER:

The Board of Directors and Finance Committee will hold a Budget Workshop on Wednesday, May 1 at 10 a.m. to review the Operating, Reserve and Capital Budgets for 2024-2025 for potential adoption at the Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, May 8. The Budget will be mailed to homeowners in late May

Annual Homeowner's, Board of Directors, and Organizational Meetings

• The Annual Meeting of the Sun City Aliante Community Homeowner's Association will be convened at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in the Vista Room of the Community Center The meeting will then recess to count the ballots.

• The Annual Homeowner's Meeting of all members of the Sun City Aliante Community Association will reconvene at 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in the Vista Room.

• Immediately following the conclusion of the Annual Meeting, the Board of Directors Meeting will begin. The Election results will be announced at the conclusion of this meeting.

• The Board of Directors Organizational Meeting will be held immediately following the Board of Directors meeting. During this meeting, the new Board of Directors will select its officers: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer

All homeowners are invited to attend the Annual Homeowner's and Board of Directors meetings.

UPDATE ON CURRENT PROJECTS:

Pool/Gym Roof – We are working on finalizing quotes for repairs.

Swimming Pool – We are currently looking at options to remove and/or replace the solar heating system on the roof above the pool.

Vista Room Sound System – We are looking at bids from vendors to i

m, including replacement of the overhead speaker system, microphones, screen and projector

Thermostat System – We are still working with NV Energy on the Installation of a new Thermostat System in the Community Center NV Energy will provide the equipment and installation at no cost to the Association.

Speed Deterrence – Speed Detectors were installed on Broadwing and Widewing streets to secure data to track when speeding was most prevalent. We are also working with the City on other speed deterrence options for the entrances to the community at Aliante Pkwy and Broadwing and Elkhorn and Widewing.

Gates Locations – We are also looking at the possibility of installing gates at Homing Pigeon and Bunting and opening the gate at Ground Robin to allow for easier access outside the community.

Budgets – We are in the process of working on the Operating, Reserve and Capital Budgets in preparation for the May 1 Budget Workshop with the Finance Committee and Board and for the May Board Meeting.

I encourage you to attend our Spring Arts & Crafts Show on April 6 and our Advertiser's Meet 'n' Greet on April 25 as well as the other great special events offered by the Lifestyle Department.

Please read below for a summary of the March 13, 2024, Board of Directors (BOD) monthly meeting:

New Business:

A Insurance Renewal March 2024-March 2025 – Our current broker from USI Insurance presented a renewal quote. The Board did not take any action so they can wait for another quote from another broker

B. Annual Reappointment of Committee Members – Board reappointed all Committee Members.

C. Vendor Approval – Board approved Freddie B. as an entertainment vendor

D. ARC Committee Recommendation – Board appointed Gary Yerkes to the ARC Committee.

E. Design Guidelines Rule Regarding Flags – Board approved enforcement of current rule to only allow the United States of America or Nevada State flags to be flown and gave 90 days for homeowners to comply

2024 CANDIDATE FORUM PRECEDING THE BOD ELECTION

T h e S u n C i t y A l i a n t e E l e c t i o n C o m m i t t e e , l e a d b y E l e c t i o n Committee Chairperson Larry Rothstein, hosted an informative Candidate Forum on March 9 which was attended by eight Candidates running to fill the four Board of Directors positions:

Sonja Bankston-Cullen (Incumbent); Mark Benz; Edward E. E r n e s t ( i n c u m b e n t ) ; F e l t o n H y c h e ; K a t h y M a r t i n ; R a y Packowski; Ed Sloman; and Mark Smith (Incumbent). Orlando Romero did not attend the Candidate Forum and has withdrawn his name from the race.

The event was well received by approximately 150 residents in the audience who had the opportunity to learn more about each candidate during the question and answer discussion, led by the Forum Moderator, Mr. Steve Vitali. Residents were also able to speak to candidates themselves. During the break at the Candidate Forum, residents enjoyed light refreshments.

The Election is Just Around the Corner

The Sun City Aliante Community Association Inc. Board of Directors and the Finance Committee will hold a Workshop to discuss the Proposed 2024-2025 Budget for Sun City Aliante Community Association, Inc.

This workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 1, at 10 a.m. in the Vista Room located at 7394 Aliante Parkway, North Las Vegas, Nevada 89084.

We hope you have attended the Candidate's Forum, met the candidates and listened to their qualifications And now the ballot should be in your hands during the first week of April.

P l e a s e s t u d y t h e b a l l o t carefully and read the detailed instructions. Afterall, you don't want your ballot disqualified. You will receive one Ballot per household.You may vote for four of the eight candidates listed on the ballot. Make sure you place your ballot in the properly sealed envelopes. To cast your vote, please insert your ballot into the Ballot Box, located in the Grand View Room of the Community Center, or drop if off at the Front Desk, or you can mail it the old-fashioned way via the US Postal Service. The deadline for receiving election ballots is 8 a.m. on Wednesday May 8, 2024.

The election will take place at 7394 Aliante Parkway, North Las Vegas, NV 89084. The Annual Meeting of all members of the Sun City Aliante Community Association will be held at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, and then recess to count the ballots.

As our association election nears, I'm sure you have seen candidates' signs displayed on the front yards. Please remember that this is allowed. However, candidates must follow the rules set forth regarding size and placement per the Design Guidelines. Only one sign per candidate per lot is allowed.

On the subject of signage… If you are selling your home, please let your real estate agents know that “For Sale” or “Open House” signs should only be placed on your property No other signs should be placed anywhere in the community even for directional purposes. Securitas Patrol will remove these signs without any notice. All “For Sale” or “For Rent” signs should have an added sign indicating that we are an AGE 55+ Community Please remember that the entirety of the dwelling unit must be rented, not a section or portions of the unit. All lease agreements must be on a year-to-year basis.

Once again, I am reminding dog owners to put a leash on your pets during your walks. Dogs are not allowed to roam free, especially on the golf course. The association does not own the golf course. It is improper and disrespectful to allow your dogs to run around at a property that is not your own. I have received too many complaints from homeowners that dog owners are not only picking up after their dogs or are unleashed, but now dogs are also roaming free on the golf course. Respectfully, the golf course is not your personal hiking trail.

Finally, this reminder is not for our seasoned homeowners, but rather for new Sun City Aliante residents; assessments are due the first of January, April, July, and October Please make your payment either online through Clickpay, mail it to the lockbox, or drop it off at our Customer Service Office.

We're only a few months into the year and already we could all use a reset to wipe the slate clean and start again. Spring is perfect for that. Life is a dirty, dusty affair A little (or a lot) spring cleaning to remove the grime, dirt, or stuff no longer used can be good exercise. Perhaps, a solid clean from bad habits, attitudes and compulsions may be in order as well.

I want to express my appreciation to everyone who contributed to the Health & Fitness Expo. Thank you to Communications Committee members: Chairperson Dan Lies; Board Liaison, Ed Ernest; Wayne Headrick; Judith Sawitski; and Joe Caggiano. I also want to recognize and express my appreciation to residents, Toni Stuart and Art Davis, for stepping up to assist with greeting and assisting vendors and troubleshooting during the event. And last but not least, special thanks to Office Manager Lori Daniels who helped me to plan, organize and execute this event from start to finish and the Maintenance Team, led by Juan Macias, who manned the kitchen, set up and removed the tables and chairs and helped in so many other ways.

I recently received a call from “Dave Sawyer” who reported to me that I had just won the 2nd Prize ~ $2.5 million and a Mercedes ~ from Publisher's Clearing House. (Of course, PCH does not make phone calls; they send you a letter or knock on your door with a TV crew.) I looked up the scammer, and his name was all over the Internet and the PCH website as a scammer. Gloria and I helped the restaurant celebrate their opening and in February our City Council recognized them as our Business of the Month. I think they're a great new dining option for residents and encourage you to check them out. As many of you know, I am a strong supporter of our first responders. I am

thrilled to share with all of you; in February, we welcomed 19 new officers to the North Las Vegas Police Department! Eight women and 11 men completed 24 weeks of academy instruction and swore an oath to faithfully serve the North Las Vegas community at a graduation ceremony in front of their peers, family and friends.

The newly minted officers will go on to complete 17-24 weeks of field training before they embark on individual assignments as patrol officers. I want to thank all of these successful recruits for their dedication and remind everyone that the City of North Las Vegas is currently hiring new officers and lateral transfers, as well as civilian team members and correction officers. If you, a family member or friend want to join a progressive nationallyaccredited law enforcement agency dedicated to building trust with our community, and serving and protecting it, I encourage you to visit joinnlvpd.us/.

Related to public safety I want to share with everyone two important ballot questions, Questions 1 and 2, that will be on the Primary Election Ballot on June 11, 2024. Questions 1 and 2 will determine if North Las Vegas will continue to maintain two tax overrides that invest in Funds 268 and Funds 287 for public safety, police, fire, streets and parks. If passed, property tax rates will not change for residents. For a complete explanation, please visit questions1and 2.org.

CELEBRATING EARTH DAY

Who Started Earth Day?

Elected to the U.S. Senate in 1962, Sen. Gaylord Nelson, a Democrat from Wisconsin, was determined to convince the federal government that the planet was at risk. In 1969, Nelson, considered one of the leaders of the modern environmental movement, developed the idea for Earth Day after being inspired by the “teach-ins” that were taking place on college campuses around the United States Nelson announced the Earth Day concept at a conference in Seattle in the fall of 1969 and invited the entire nation to get involved.

On the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, rallies were held in Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles and most other American cities, according to the Environmental Protection Agency In New York City, Mayor John Lindsay closed off a portion of Fifth Avenue to traffic for several hours and spoke at a rally in Union Square with actors Paul Newman and Ali McGraw. In Washington, D.C., thousands of people listened to speeches and performances by singer Pete Seeger and others, and Congress went into recess so its members could speak to their constituents at Earth Day events.

The first Earth Day was effective at raising awareness about environmental issues and transforming public attitudes. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, “Public opinion polls indicate that a permanent change in national priorities followed Earth Day 1970. When polled in May 1971, 25 percent of the U.S. public declared protecting the environment to be an important goal, a 2,500 p e r c e n t i n c r e a s e o v e r 1 9 6 9 ” E a r t h D a y k i c k e d o ff t h e “Environmental decade with a bang,” as Senator Nelson later put it.

During the 1970s, a number of important pieces of environmental legislation were passed, among them the Clean Air Act, the Water Quality Improvement Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Toxic Substances Control Act and the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act. Another key development was the establishment in December 1970 of the Environmental Protection Agency, which was tasked with protecting human health and safeguarding the natural environment—air, water and land.

This theme for 2024 Earth Day is ”Environment vs. Plastic.” Please visit the Earth Day display in the Community Center, and learn about easy things you can do to reduce your plastic use/“footprint.” Most of us are of an age we likely remember life before our current singleuse/ disposable society. Remember when:

• Milk arrived weekly on your doorstep in reusable glass bottles.

• Soda/pop bottles were returned to your local grocery store for reuse/refilling.

• Laundry soap was in biodegradable cardboard boxes.

• Grocery bags were paper and disposable, single-use plastic water bottles did not exist?

Fast forward to our current disposable society with billions upon billions of items of plastic waste choking our oceans, lakes, and rivers and piling up on land. Some of it in our own community, in trees/bushes. When plastics end up in landfills, they are not harmless. They break down into tiny toxic particles that contaminate the soil and waterways and enter the food chain when animals accidentally ingest them. Single-use plastics (water bottles, straws, food

packaging, etc.) are small items, but have a large local and global impact.

TAKE THE EARTH DAY CHALLENGE – BE PART OF THE SOLUTION.

More than one billion people participate in Earth Day, making it t h e l a r g e s t c i v i c o b s e r v a n c e i n t h e world. This year, join i n o n t h e a c t i o n ! Commit to changing one (or more) thing(s) in your household to r e d u c e y o u r u s e o f p l a s t i c s g o i n g forward. Always:

• Use a reusable grocery bag for every shopping trip.

• Use a reusable water bottle.

• Use glass food storage containers.

• Buy products in recyclable/biodegradable containers (e.g.,) peanut butter in glass jars, baking soda in cardboard boxes.

• Bring reusable containers for take-out; say NO to single use plastics.

• Say NO to plastic straws!

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MONTHLY BULLETIN:

The last few years have brought many new residents to Sun City Aliante. Neighborhood Watch would like to welcome you and give you some tips to help secure your home and vehicles. Unfortunately, we have had burglaries in the community, but the percentage of incidents is far less than the average around the whole city of Las Vegas.

You have probably seen TV shows such as NCIS or Law and Order where a burglar kicks in the front door Well, that really does happen. Neighborhood Watch has some ideas on items for purchase to help make your front door safer They range from a door jamb striker plate to a door security bar to a front gate. Neighborhood Watch has a flyer displaying these items available at the Neighborhood Watch meeting Thursday, April 18 at 4:30 p.m. in the Community Center

Another good resource is to speak with your Block Captain. If you don't know who your Block Captain is, that's another good reason to come to a Neighborhood Watch meeting.

One of the first things you may want to do is take pictures of jewelry and other items of value. Very seldom are electronics stolen but while you're taking pictures, include your computers and TVs with their serial numbers.

The safest place for your car is in the garage. Many of us have downsized from a bigger home and, for some, the garage is still full of things that do not fit inside the house and you have no room for your car. As we have said before, those boxes in the garage are not going to seem worth as much when you are filling out a police report on a stolen car or parts.

PATROL COMMITTEE

Welcome to the new Patrol Chairman

Tony Swat is excited to be in this position to help make our community a better and safer place to live. He was born in 1957 and called Chicago home for 60 some years. His wife, Linda, and he decided to give up on the 20 below wind chill and retire to a more hospitable climate. John F Kennedy, around mid-day, on January 20, 1961, in Washington, D.C. spoke words that have inspired and continue to shape his life. The occasion was his presidential inauguration and came as he was concluding his inaugural address. “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” This is why I accepted the position of Patrol Chairman, Tony said.

Professional Background

He was 18 years old and going to college when he applied at United Parcel Service. Little did he know he would work there 40 years and retire from there. At UPS, he started on the loading docks and eventually was promoted to a supervisor position; then he moved to a Package Driver job. Later, he was sent to a UPS Commercial Driver School where he was taught to drive Tractor Trailers. During his final eight years at UPS, he held the position of Safety Coordinator acting as a liaison between the drivers and management involving injuries and accidents. He also successfully ran his own company for 15 years ~ TS Pitching Academy It was a school to teach girls to excel at women's fastpitch pitching. In addition, he was an Umpire for the State of Illinois for 24 y e a r s H e w o r k e d m u l t i p l e S t a t e p l a y o ff s , i n c l u d i n g S t a t e championships. Currently, he is Volunteer in Police Service (VIPS) for the North Las Vegas Police Department.

Notable Achievements

Tony's achievements include: Two (2 ) Term President of the Athletic Officials Association (AOA) and longtime board member; inducted into Athletic Officials Association Hall of Fame; inducted into the Illinois Coaches Association (ICA) Hall of Fame; Circle of Honor Member at UPS – 25 years with no driving accidents, and Retired with 35 years accident free.

Lunar New Year Celebration

In celebration of Chinese New Year 2024, also known as Lunar New Year, the Table Tennis Club sponsored an event on February 10 in the Vista Room from 5 to 8 p.m. Everyone brought a dish to share for the potluck dinner. Other entertainment included a fashion show, a performance by the Sun City Aliante Steppers and a social dance.

March's celebration for Classy Chefs centered around St. Patrick's Day! The luck of the Irish was with the members as Freda Porter-Katz made Corned Beef & Cabbage; Amy Redd made Irish Bread; Gloria Trujillo brought Strawberry Salad; Eloise Turner brought a Broccoli-Cauliflower salad; Toni Stuart made Green Jello; Collette Stickney brought a Peach Cobbler, Ora Price brought Deviled Eggs; Bill James made a cake; and David Hwu made Broccoli Cheese Soup. As usual, the decoration committee provided a fun atmosphere with the table settings and details about Leprechauns and how to make a bow tie out of a napkin!

Classy Chefs usually meet the first Tuesday of every month at 9:30 a.m. in the Vista Room and kitchen. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 2 and will feature an Italian theme to celebrate Italian Liberation Day Menu items include Turkey-Sausage Spinach Lasagna; Spaghetti & Meatballs; Antipasto Salad; Lettuce Salad; Italian Wedding Soup; Bread; Cake and Chocolate Cookies. Demonstrations will be done by Rosario for chocolate cookies and Toni for bread. There is an annual $10 dues, plus a $5 per meeting charge to help reimburse for grocery purchases, plates and decorations. ose participating take part in a day-long vow of silence which signifies the silencing of LGBT students and allies. Even if you do not participate in being silent for the day, it is a good day to speak out against bullying anyone for any reason.

April 26 is Lesbian Visibility Day, a day on which lesbians are celebrated, recognized, and brought to public attention. The National Coalition for LGBT Health originally organized it to raise awareness for lesbian rights. The more visibility, hopefully the more acceptance of people. Other activities in the works are Pride month events, a Game Night, going to a Club, visits to the Neon Museum “Graveyard,” Mob Museum, Bingo, going to a show, murder mystery, and more.

SENIORS WITH WARM HEARTS

Our Annual Food Drive will be conducted this year from Wednesday, April 3 to Wednesday, April 17. The food drive will benefit three organizations in the Las Vegas Valley They are “Helping Hands of Vegas Valley,” “Serving Our Kids Foundation. ” and “Street Teens. ” Information for each group is listed below, along with their needs. Seniors with Warm Hearts will have a donation box set up in the lobby area at the Community C e n t e r P l e a s e c

citizens in Southern Nevada. Donations can include but are not limited to canned beans, mac and cheese, microwave popcorn, crackers, granola bars, canned tuna, Vienna sausage, chicken, roast beef or spam, canned fruits and vegetables, canned soup, peanut butter, pasta, pasta sauce and boxes of cereal. Nonedible donations can include toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, facial tissues, toiletry items, detergent and soap.

“Serving Our Kids Foundation” was established to feed Southern Nevada's homeless, at-risk and food insecure children by providing weekend meal bags to children who would otherwise go hungry when not in school. Donations can include canned pasta, shelf stable chocolate milk, individual boxed cereal, breakfast/cereal bars, fruit pouches, instant oatmeal, ramen noodles, yogurt, fruit snacks and snack size cookies or crackers which are the food items that are included in the weekend meal bags. All individual serving items and any brand of the food items above are appreciated.

Street Teens is a charity who helps teens who have moved into a high-risk “Street Life,” rarely by their own choice. Students can find a safe haven for several hours a day and be off the streets. Donations can include individual serving items such as ramen, mac and cheese cups, rice cups, spam, jerky, microwaveable ready to eat meals, pop tarts, tuna & cracker or chicken & cracker meals, capri sun. Nonedible items such as individual soap, deodorant, shampoo and feminine hygiene products. They are also in need of travel size toiletry items.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, April 18 at 11 a.m. when we will have a guest speaker from Valley View Community Cares. In addition, we will sort the food drive items collected and prepare them for distribution. New members are always welcome. UKULELE STRUMMERS

There are many fun activities h a p p e n i n g i n s i d e t h e C o m m u n i t y C e n t e r ! T h e U k u l e l e S t r u m m e r s a r e celebrating by playing some awesome tunes every Sunday afternoon. If you pass by our practice room some Sunday come in and sing along!

For 2024 ukulele classes are offered as follows:

• Beginning Ukulele: 11 : 3 0 p . m . e v e r y Sunday afternoon. This class is for beginning ukulele players who know the basic 5 chords.

• Advanced Ukulele: 1:30-2:30 p.m. every Sunday afternoon. This class is for intermediate players who have attended ukulele classes here or with another instructor and know ten or more basic chords. We will learn one or two new songs a week and play songs we know We will also learn some new chords or playing techniques along the way

• Fundamentals of Ukulele: For new students who have never played ukulele. This class is offered this year in the month of April on Sundays at 12:30 pm. Please call me for availability

VETERAN'S CLUB

Hello everyone, I hope you are enjoying the spring weather. We have some exciting events to look forward to, such as the Spring Picnic on May 4 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The menu will be Hamburgers, Hot dogs, Baked Beans, Chips, Cake, Drinks. Also, we will celebrate Vietnam Veterans with flags going up in the community on Saturday March 23 and they will come down on March 30. Volunteers would be very much appreciated; you can look in your mailbox for a reminder within one week before the flag raising event.

In March, new board members were elected to the Veteran's Club. Their names will be published in the next issue. We will have a new speaker, Adam Harvison, from the Harvison House at our April 16 meeting. Please don't forget to purchase our Memorial Bricks at $130 for those we love who have served in our armed forces past or present. We also have flags and poles for sale - Flags $25, Poles $20. Please attend our April 16 meeting at 6 p.m. in the Vista Room.

At their February 20 meeting, the Auxiliary discussed the recent Pancake Breakfast. The event was a great success and the Auxiliary is so appreciative of our residents for their support!

GARAGE SALE! The Auxiliary will hold a garage sale this spring on the Aliante Community Garage Sale weekend of April 13 & 14. Please consider donating your items to the Auxiliary for this event. All proceeds go to support the Auxiliary projects such as Nellis Active Military Support, Help USA and Harvison House. At the garage sale, they will also collect men's clothing, to be donated directly to Help USA and personal care items for active military living in Nellis AFB dorms.

Spring Picnic! The Auxiliary, along with the Veterans Club, will be at it again on May 4th in the Vista Room with their annual Spring Picnic. Burgers and hot dogs on the grill! Tickets will be on sale starting April 16th. The Auxiliary will hold a Help USA drive at the picnic, asking for paper towel, toilet paper and breakfast items to help veterans in the transitional housing facilities.
