re you a Billy no mates? I know I am. Sometimes it’s better to be alone than having to deal with other people’s issues, especially when you are on holiday. If you are a single person on holiday in Pattaya, we would like to take
this opportunity to shake your hand. Nowhere on the planet is better than Pattaya if you are holidaying alone. Being a party capital of the world, you will always find someone to talk to when you need it.

Many people ask us questions regarding about visiting the beach alone and how to circumnavigate certain problems that we had never thought about before. What happens when you visit the beach alone and you want to swim in the sea and leave all your valuables unattended on the beach or when you need someone to rub sun cream into those unreachable areas on you mid-to-lower back so you don’t crack your spine trying to do so? There are so many things to consider when visiting the beach alone. We asked many of our friends on travel forums their opinions on visiting the beach alone, and here is what they had to say:
Solo at the beach… • Samantha, UK – “If you are going to swim in the ocean but don’t want to leave your bags and valuable unattended, buy yourself a waterproof bag to keep your essentials dry. I bought one that floats and put my camera and phone in there as I swam. It worked out just fine for me.” • Dave, Australia – “What I did was hire a beach lounger and umbrella from the beach boys (not the pop group I might add). When I went for a swim in the sea, they kept an eye on my belongings and everything was just fine and I gave them a tip when I left.” • Billy, USA – “When I went to the beach alone, I befriended a nice family who were sitting nearby. It was nice to have someone to talk with and they also kept an eye on my bags for me when I wanted to swim. I found this was a great way to meet new people as well.” • Meredith, USA – “I have been to the beach on holiday alone loads of times. I find the only 100% secure way to protect your valuable is to leave them back in your hotel room. I just take bare essentials such as a towel, sunscreen and a bottle of water. But I suppose that’s just the way I am…. Better safe than sorry.” • Robert, Scotland – “I tried not to take anything too valuable with me to the beach. I leave my stuff on the beach and keep an eye on it when I am in the water. I have never had a problem before with doing things that way.” • Janice, New Zealand – “Applying sunscreen when alone on the beach was troublesome until I found one of those spray-on sunscreens, which made it easy to cover all my back and shoulders without the help of anyone else, which did cut down on the groping factor as well.”

lthough I have lived in Pattaya for the past 5-years, there was a time when I would come here on holiday, sometimes for a few weeks and other times just for a week. Coming to Pattaya for a week is great fun, but one thing I found is if you want to make the most from a week in
the city, you really need to plan your itinerary because if you don’t, the 7-days often results into a drunken blur where nothing was really achieved aside from a sore head and a spot of acute amnesia. Getting to Pattaya Our time is limited, so we need to cut down on all the time consuming issues that arise from travelling. You have finally made it to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok and need

to get to Pattaya. Remember, time is against us. The balloon-surfing and cheap Charlie fraternity would at this point catch a bus to Ekamai Bus Station in Bangkok city and board a bus to Pattaya for just 150 THB. However, we are here to make the most of our week, so catching a taxi will already cut down your travelling time by a couple of hours. When you are waiting in the taxi queue, ask around to see if anybody else is going to Pattaya, especially if they are at the front of the queue. This will cut down your taxi fare by half.
Tackling your first night in the city It’s only natural that the moment you arrive that you want to get out into the neon-lit evening to hit the beers and party. You only have a week in the city, and jet-lag can be a real party-pooper. If you go mad on the first night, it might take 2 or 3 days to recover properly, so we would advise that first night you take it easy. Have something nice and healthy to eat, a couple of beers and then go to bed at a semi-decent time around midnight, or it could have a severe impact on your week in the city. There will be plenty of time to hit the bars over the course of a week. Patience is a virtue my son. Things to try when you are here: Now we have actually gotten to Pattaya in one piece and managed to survive our first night without any infractions with the tourist police or without being accosted by ladyboys, we can get on with our mission: to see and experience the best Pattaya has to offer in a single week. In the daytime you could sample the temples such as the Sanctuary of Truth in Naklua, do some shopping on the beach road markets, find some local handicrafts at Pattaya
Floating Market or shop for brand names at Central Festival Shopping Mall. If you love the beach, we would recommend you go over to Jomtien Beach, which is nice and uncluttered stretch of sand. If you are an animal or theme park lover, Siracha Tiger Zoo, Million Year Stone Park and Crocodile Farm, Khao Kheow Open Zoo and Nong Nooch Gardens are great choices. Pattaya is home to some fantastic golf courses, with over 20 in a 45-minute drive of the city. If you are the more adventurous kind, you could sample go-karting, paintballing and even visit the local shooting range. There are many excursions out to Koh Larn and other outlaying islands that you could take advantage of during the day, all of which you can book at any tour kiosk in the city. In the evening, you need to check out the go-go and beer bars on Walking Street, dine in one of the city’s finest restaurants or even visit a show at Alangkarn Theater.
There is so much to see and do in Pattaya, both day and night. But if you are here for just one week, you need to organize your time and plan beforehand the things you want to see and do. If you don’t plan your week in Pattaya, you will amble aimlessly throughout the city like I did in my first holiday in Pattaya, where I achieved absolutely nothing. PattayaCityUncovered.com

LCOHOL LICENSE & CIGARETTE LICENSE An alcohol license must be obtained from The Excise Department (Ministry of Finance) for any of the following purposes:
• To sell alcoholic beverages • To produce alcohol and possess related equipment • To import more than one (1) litre of alcohol • To transport untaxed alcohol from a factory • To transport more than ten (10) litres of alcohol • To transport more than one (1) litre but less than ten (10) litres of alcohol between specified territories (provinces) Establishments that require liquor licenses include: • Pubs • Bars • Restaurants • Distillers, Importers, Distributors and Wholesalers • Hotels • Clubs • Theaters • Grocery and Convenience Stores • Liquor stores Alcohol license holders are prohibited to sell alcoholic beverages: - to people younger than 20 years or those people that lose consciousness when they drink; - between 12 midnight and 11am, and from 2pm to 5pm; - in close proximity to educational and religious areas; - at or within petrol stations and dormitories; - at or within public parks provided by the government for public recreation; - at or within State Public Health Service Units; - at or within public offices, except in the areas designated for the establishment of shops or clubs; In case the business establishment intends to sell cigarettes, it must also apply to The Excise Department for a Cigarette License. Alcohol & Cigarette Licenses must be renewed at the end of the calendar year (December 31). However, the applications for renewal are accepted starting from the month of October. FOOD LICENSE FOR RESTAURANTS Opening a food business has its own set of legal considerations, which includes obtaining a variety of licenses and permits in order to start operating your business. The type of licenses to obtain depends on the type of products or services that are intended to be sold. All establishments in Thailand intending to serve or sell food are required to obtain a Food License from the Municipality or District where the proposed establishment or business will be located. The entire procedure may take about two months from the date of submission of the application. An officer from the Municipality or District shall set an appointment to inspect the location, restaurant facilities and over-all sanitation to consider the approval of the license application. Food License is valid for one year and must be renewed on a yearly basis.
ENTERTAINMENT LICENSE Entertainment License must be secured by establishments or businesses who intend to provide or engage in any of the following services: • Entertainment Venues 1. A place providing a show or other activities for the purpose of entertaining customers and allowing staff to socialize with customers; 2. A place providing equipment enabling patrons to sing and allowing staff to socialize with customers; 3. A place that has no dance floor but allows customers to dance on the premises; 4. Other places with lights and sounds facilities • Dance Venues such as discotheques and other venues that stage folk and country dancing • Restaurants that provide entertainment Entertainment License must be renewed at the end of the calendar year (December 31). However, the applications for renewal are accepted starting from the month of October. MASSAGE LICENSE Massage License must be obtained from the Municipality or District where the proposed establishment or business will be located if the business intends to engage in a Spa or Massage services. The establishment applying for this license must: • have staff/massage therapists with a valid massage certificate from a registered massage school, with a minimum of 60 hours of training; • display a sign that bears information about what medical conditions are worsened by massage; • pass the sanitation inspection conducted by the Municipality officer; • have an enclosed changing room; • must have First Aid Medicine supplies inside the premises; Massage License is valid for one year and must be renewed on a yearly basis.
