What does a sound engineer really do? A sound engineer also known as an audio engineer is a trained professional who has to work around and with the mechanics of recording, mixing, and reproducing sound. A sound engineer is denitely not the same as a sound producer, or writer, as they have to deal specically with the mechanical and technical aspects of sound and music and nothing else.

A sound engineer has to often assist musicians and record producers in such a way that their work gets the sound that they have been hoping to achieve. A sound engineer will be responsible towards piecing together different parts of a song, add some synthetic sounds to the existing track or even use autotune on a recording

The good news is that sound engineers with their technical capabilities can remain in sound engineering or even pursue a dual career as an engineer as well as producer.

The job market for sound engineers is expected to rise in the next decade or so. Experts from the industry have forecasted that the employment of Sound Engineering Professionals will grow by 9 percent from 2012 to 2022, which is as fast as the average for several other occupations. The growth in employment will not necessarily stem from the music industry but from other industries as well including radio and television stations, businesses, and institutions that seek to improve their audio capabilities using state-of-the-art technology

An assistant engineer usually works in a studio setting as well. They are often apprentices to studio engineers who own or work in large facilities.

3. Recording Engineer

A recording engineer is someone who focuses specifically on the aspect of recording sound.

HYDERABAD: Afzal Minhaaj presents a condent picture. As a hip hop music producer, he has taken baby steps in the music industry and has uploaded three music videos and six tracks. “They were basic because there was not much budget,” he smiles.

However, the youngster dreams to make it big and is working in that direction. He is studying sound at Patsav (earlier called PanacheSchool of Sound) in Banjara Hills. “In this creative eld, one always has ideas but to make an impact, the quality has to be top class,” he points out and adds, “I am the rst one to go to the institute and the last one to leave.”
