01 Project Intro The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) collects revenue on behalf of the Government of Kenya. Our core func�ons are Revenue Collec�on, Trade Facilita�on and Border Control.

KRA's commitment to Kenya extends beyond its mandated func�ons and includes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with programs in Healthcare, Sports, Educa�on and Environment.

River Connect Kiosks are an ini�a�ve of the Nairobi Rivers Commission with KRA & Shipping Lines as lead partners, assisted by Kenya Government Ministries, Private Sector and Civil Society Organiza�ons among other partners. The aim is to establish Community-Run Centres that coordinate and manage the restora�on and sustainable management of the Nairobi River Basin.

The RCK Project aligns with the NRC Mandate, KRA’s CSR ini�a�ves, and facilitates nine out of the seventeen thema�c areas under the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The RCK Vision

The RCK Mission

A centre where riverine communi�es can engage with stakeholders and partners in the Nairobi River Basin and coordinate their ac�vi�es, ini�a�ves, programs and sustainable management of the River's blue and green assets.

To provide a safe space for congrega�on, organiza�on, educa�on, recrea�on, governance and socio-economic development of riverine community members for their interac�on, stewardship and sustainable use of the Nairobi River Basin's blue and green resources.

RCK Objectives • A sanctuary for leadership, governance, interac�on, coordina�on, empowerment, and recrea�on of riverine communi�es' coexistence in and mutual benefit from the Nairobi River Basin.

• A centre where Riverine Communi�es can openly discuss, deliberate, plan, organize, mobilize and execute ini�a�ves to enhance their safety, well-being, livelihoods and development.

• A base of opera�on for Nairobi Rivers stakeholders in recogni�on of the central role that Riverine Communi�es play as principal stewards and sustainable managers of the Nairobi River Basin's blue and green assets.

• A liaison centre where the community can engage with the Nairobi River Basin stakeholder universe (na�onal government, county governments, private sector, development partners, etc.).

03 The Nerve Centre

Joint Monitoring Centre

Based at the Nairobi Rivers Commission, the Joint Monitoring Centre (JMAC) is the command centre for coordina�on and oversight of the 18 Nairobi Rivers Zones, and by extension, the River Connect Kiosks.

The JMAC monitors, tracks, analyzes and grades the RCKs key performance indicators ensuring that the ac�vi�es and ini�a�ves of the River Zones align with the Nairobi Rivers Master plan.

Roles and Functions • Coordina�on of River Zones communi�es tasks and ac�vi�es related to river clean up and river habitat restora�on • Streamline collabora�on between and among the designated Nairobi Rivers Zones • To track, map, analyze and document data from Nairobi River Zone communi�es ac�vi�es and ini�a�ves • Grading of RCK performance based on their department KPIs and milestones

Resource Centre

The head office is the nerve centre of zone opera�ons handling administra�on and management func�ons.

Answering directly to the JMAC, this department keeps track of the zone's key performance indicators (KPIs), which are ul�mately used to grade the zones using a five-star ra�ng system.

This department runs a library, study centre, training rooms and Zone museum. It is a safe space for academic study, group/club ac�vi�es and arts that facilitates access to informa�on, educa�onal and communica�on resources to the Zone communi�es.

This department oversees all ac�vi�es pertaining to river basin restora�on, river cleaning and river policing, which includes recrui�ng and management of volunteers.

This department operates and maintains the Zones green spaces, food court, events arena, spor�ng and recrea�onal facili�es. It is responsible for coordina�ng and oversight of equitable/ rota�on access to green spaces to the communi�es and micro-enterpreneurs within the Zone.

This department provides an innova�on and incuba�on hub to nurture livelihood and entrepreneurial skills within the zone including but not limited to urban agriculture, waste recycling, waste-to-energy, ICT, crea�ve skills, etc.
