This is terribly unfortunate, and of course nothing compared to the atrocities and sufferings of people as a result of the epidemic, but I’ve been deprived of my typical cinema theatre visits for over 18 months now, and I’ve been missing

the action. For folks like me, who focus solely on COVID-19 acceptable behaviour and safety, OTT (Over the Top) streaming sites have thus become the only option.

As a result, I’ve been watching a lot on such a platform since the first lockout, always selecting the best

of available movies and the most-talked-about Series-but just on one platform because I don’t want to injure my ears by wearing headphones all the time.

A number of films are from the Golden Age, and the majority of current films do not require special attention. However, I recently saw three contemporary films and web series about which I’d like to chat a little. Bell Bottom (2021), a new

Bollywood film, was one of those that drew me in because of the name, which was a rage in our college days, and because the film was in the vein of the successful Indian spy thrillers I’d seen in recent years in modern theatres.

The film’s protagonist Another draw is Akshay Kumar, who has appeared in several popular thrillers directed by Neeraj Pandey, including Special 26 (2013), Baby (2015), Rustom (2016), and Naam

Shabana (2017). Of course, Bell Bottom is not one of his films, but the format appeared to be intriguing. In general, I was dissatisfied by the film:

The core premise of the film, a hijack drama of an Indian Airlines plane (based on a historical event during the last term of India’s then

Prime Minister, late Indira Gandhi. ), was excessively harmed by the extended flashbacks, and when the plot finally came to a conclusion, it was a disappointment.

The Pakistani counterpart was also only half-heartedly exhibited.

The penultimate shock, in which Vaani Kapoor’s character, Akshay’s wife, shared a secret with the RAW chief, was just a gimmick. Some critics have also pointed out

factual inaccuracies, although these can be overlooked because this is, after all, a work of fiction.

As a result, while Ranjit Tiwari’s film Bell Bottom is well-made to some extent, it falls short of being as captivating and gripping as the

films of the same genre discussed below.

When the new OTT web series Mumbai Diaries 26/11, directed by well-known filmmaker Nikhil Advani, premiered, it was a

pleasant surprise. Because I worked in the media and witnessed every agonising moment of the dreadful Mumbai Terror Event on November 26, 2008, anything concerning the attack always piqued my interest.

However, all of the films made on

the incident so far have been mediocre at best, unable to capture the terror that was unleashed. So I started watching the nine-episode Mumbai Diaries 26/11 right away, and to my surprise, I found it quite riveting and, for the first time, it did

complete respect to the actual fear still felt by both victims and the wider public. Despite the fact that it is made from a medical standpoint,

The web series also addressed the much-discussed’media involvement,’ which was providing constant leads to the Pakistani terror control room, which then guided the terrorists in Mumbai, and the tragedy unleashed by an

overzealous news reporter in this work of fiction was depicted with honesty and efficiency. If the chronology of the actual chain of events was not followed to the smallest detail, it was never felt while viewing, and since it is a work of fiction, such complaints

are unnecessary. More favourably, the Series avoids the graphic violence, its glorification, and explicit sexuality that have characterised practically every OTT Web Series broadcast in India.

Overall, Mumbai Diaries 26/11 is an excellent film.
