Patrick Mckillop of Pembroke : Marathon Training Running has continued to increase in popularity among people of all ages who desire to lead a more strong and active lifestyle. Running is one of the most useful exercises a individual can do due to is long-lasting effects on the cardiovascular system and its effects on brain development even amongst adults. However, not enough runners understand the significance of proper training when it comes to running long distances, and especially when it comes to competing in long distance events like marathons and half marathons.


Running in a marathon is a no easy feat; it takes endurance, strength, and unrelenting determination to complete every inch of those 26.2 miles. However, proper training can mean the difference between competing with ease, and competing with pain. The first thing a runner wants to do when training for a marathon is a build a strong foundation or a base as it’s more typically called. Gradually increase in mileage by starting out easy and working harder and harder. If a runner starts out too hard before they build a solid base, they could tire their legs out before the hard training is even supposed to begin, not to mention doing more than one should can easily lead to overuse injuries like runners knee. Keep in mind that breaks aren’t a bad thing; every runner needs a rest day once in a while to allow his or her muscles much deserved rest.

He has already trained and completed two half marathons and is currently hoping to run in the Boston Marathon in the near future.
