PLAN OF ACTION (MANIFESTO)

[This document outlines a 20-point policy agenda to which we shall be committed, as MSA President & Vice, in exchange for 2 key commitments from members:theirvotesandactiveparticipationduringouradministration]

A. FACELIFT

1. Win back the lost zeal, interest and enthusiasm of students and faculty members through result-oriented leadership, and effective coordination of programs, projects & policies.

2. Ensure the revitalized, proper organising of events, celebrations, and programs that offers seamless experience for members.

3. Monthly Executive Board Listening and Engagement Tour

A student-centric approach for students to share their concerns, suggestions, and ideas. For the Executive Board to also engage members on the intended plan of action for the month.

4. Trimester MSA Leaders’ Forum

For committee heads, class reps and student leaders at all levels. To abreast student leaders with plans for each trimester, invite ideas and receive reviews and feedback on previous trimester developments.

B. ACADEMICS

5. Procure 2 public address systems for both pre-clinical and clinical schools

6. Procure additional projector(s) for both pre-clinical and clinical schools

7. Advocate for the use of the Endowment Fund to improve infrastructural development for the enablement of teaching and learning.

8. Through the Academic Committee, institute a Trail Support Initiative to provide supplemental tutoring sessions, progress monitoring, learning material resources, and counselling service for affected students.

9. Liaise with School of Medicine to organise MDC Licensing Exams preparatory tutorials for final year classes.

10. Re-engineer the academic resource hub, “Alveolus” using Telegram bot, to simplify file sorting, and ensure an update of the repository

11. Advocate for the resolution of systematic bottlenecks with student portal, exam results/ transcript access etc

C. WELFARE

12. Organise a Leadership, Career Development, Entrepreneurship, Wellness & Mental Health Summit to enhance capacity building & personal development

13. Set up a student-led hostel agency to collate an up-to-date database on accommodation options, and provide assistance (matching and booking services) for both pre-clinical and clinical campuses.

14. Liase with tricycle operators for pick-ups at clinical year hostels

15. Souvenirs for members such as MSA cloth, T shirts, stationery etc.

16. Mass Hepatitis B vaccination for Clinical Year Students

D. PROGRAMS & EVENTS

17. Secure external funding / donations / sponsorships for events & projects

18. Bonding indoor & outdoor games: sports & recreational tournaments including athletics,

19. Lobby for slots for International Exchange programs and electives. Liaise with other local MSAs to institute Local Exchange/ Medical Education Tourism

20. Partner & collaborate with sister student associations for programs

Patrick Fynn is a medical student currently in the Graduate Entry Class at the School of Medicine, where he served as Class President. As an active member of the Medical Students’ Association (MSA) of the University for Development Studies, he additionally served as Class Representative at both General Assemblies of MSA and the SRC.

In these roles he selflessly committed himself to ensuring the wellbeing of his class, year group and the student body at large.

The Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations (FGMSA) has been a beneficiary of his illustrious efforts chairing the Plenary Session of its 2024 Annual Delegates Congress, as well as providing leadership, enabling strategic partnerships and providing support at various fronts of the federation.

Prior to becoming a medical student, he had practiced as a Physician Assistant, been a youth leader,anacademic,andasocialentrepreneur.He is founder and team lead for the nongovernmental social enterprise, Standout Care.

Currently, he is a OneYoungWorld Ambassador, having won the Novartis Reimagining Healthcare Scholarship. Patrick Fynn is Queen’s Young Leader,analumnusoftheYoungAfricanLeaders Initiative, and a fellow of Yunus&Youth

PROFILE OF RUNNING MATE

Ruwaida Salifu Sumani is level 500 medical studentintheUniversityforDevelopmentStudies (UDS).

As an active member of the UDS Medical Students’Association,sheserved astheElectoral Commission representative for her class from 2021 to 2023.

She was also a member of the UDS SRC Sanitation Committee in the 2022/2023 academic year.

She has served as the Returning Officer at the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Associations’ Annual Congress 2023.

Ruwaida possesses strong digital communication skills and has over the period offered various promotional social marketing for medical school activities including UDS MSA programs using her digital media platforms. For these successes she was honored the 2024 FGMSA Content Creator/ Influencer of the Year.

In 2024, she was selected by Women-in-TechEmpowermentorganization, Divaloper whereshe enrolled in 3-month intensive digital marketing training program, further honing these skills.

With special interest in social activism, community development, and student leadership, she has made significant contributions to NGOs as well as various standing committees in the UDSMSA,enrichingherexperienceintheaffairs of these sub-executive arms of the association.
