PATRICK CAT ARTWORKS 2018-2025

Color, as a living substance, materializes human experiences, awakens memories, and evokes nostalgia, acting as a universal language that flows, shapes itself to each person, and preserves our capacity to feel, dream, and be.

I seek to connect dimensions through color, exploring organic relationships between the two-dimensional, three-dimensional, digital, and a tactile-sensory dimension. Thus, my works undergo a cyclical process, transcending boundaries to engage with the multidimensional world while preserving color.

My intention to care for color is a way of protecting identity and communication against chromophobia, which, according to David Batchelor, strips humanity of its essence by imposing monochrome. Color infuses life and dynamism, while monochrome stifles expression.

I draw on characters born from my imagination, inspired by Pop Surrealism, which act as icons to anchor shared emotions and experiences. These vibrant and, for me, colorful symbols reinterpret popular culture, weaving narratives that connect the individual with the universal, translating the everyday into accessible, dreamlike interpretations.

In response to the rejection of monochrome, I am interested in bringing color to the body through tattooing, transforming the skin into an organic Wunderkammer, a living canvas that collects personal narratives, evolves over time, and unites the tangible with the intangible by fusing the chromatic range with the wearer’s identity.

The possibilities of color on the skin lead me to propose my project “ColorOut TM” as an experiential bridge that integrates painting, watercolor, sculpture, digital drawing, and tattooing, inviting people to interact and transform.

My practice focuses on intimately inhabiting to preserve memories, emotions, and the vitality of individual existence, celebrating vibrant diversity. Currently, I continue to explore the magical and the power of symbology to reflect on being, temporality, and human expression, bringing my multidimensional works as a transformative act that transcends the visual and integrates with the self.

ARTISTICPROJECTCOLOROUT

ColorOut is a multidisciplinary artistic project that harnesses color as a vibrant, living language to craft immersive experiences, bridging tattoos with twodimensional and three-dimensional artistic expressions, both digital and tactile.

The project celebrates the chromatic spectrum as a universal conduit, connecting personal narratives to collective experiences. It positions the skin as a living canvas an organic Wunderkammer, or cabinet of curiosities that serves as an exhibition space for emotions. These emotions emerge from symbols, memories, reflections, dreams, and the wearer’s identity.

Through tattoos, with their rich tones and chromatic ranges, ColorOut integrates these sensations into the physical and emotional body, creating a dynamic dialogue between the individual and the multidimensional world.

MULTIDIMENSIONALINTERVENTIONS

In my artistic practice, color is a vibrant, malleable force that transcends both physical and conceptual dimensions. I harness it to create characters infused with a pop and dreamlike aesthetic, characterized by saturated hues, fluid forms, and surreal narratives. These figures act as vessels for chromatic energy, embodying its transformative power.

Spanning canvases, sculptures, animations, and other media, these characters evolve into interdimensional beings. They explore themes of movement, transformation, and the interconnectedness of worlds, blurring the lines between the tangible and the imagined.

Through their presence, I invite viewers to engage with a universe where these beings do more than exist they breathe, narrate, and challenge the boundaries of reality itself.

Bryan Vigil (New York, 1988).

Lives and works in Salt Lake City-USA

Known artistically as Patrick Cat, Bryan is a multidisciplinary artist born in the Bronx to Mexican immigrant parents. His childhood, shaped by frequent moves between the dynamic energy of the Bronx and the tranquility of Cuautla, Morelos, cultivated a profound bond with art as both a sanctuary and a means of expression. From a young age, drawing offered him solace, fueled by American pop culture, which he vividly reimagined using crayons, markers, and colors.

A self-taught artist by choice, Bryan launched his artistic career in Mexico in 2010. Since 2020, he has been based in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he continues to channel memories of his childhood and the richness of his bicultural experiences into his work, infusing it with narrative depth and emotional resonance.

Specializing in tattooing, Patrick Cat’s pictorial practice is distinguished by its fusion of his cultural background with oil painting, dry pastel, and watercolor. His work brings to life two original concepts: ColorOut and Organic Neo Watercolor. He has collaborated with prominent tattoo studios in Mexico, further enriching his multidisciplinary approach.

(Burial Art Gallery, Black House Morelia), United States (Soho Ink, Parallax Art Studio, Awaken Tattoo, True Love, Iji Emporium, Sashatattooing), Spain (El Salado), and France (Le Gamin à Dix Dots), in addition to collaborating with brands such as Gold Bond. In Utah, he has made his mark on the cultural scene by designing the cover for the April 2024 issue of SLUG Mag and participating in an interview for the same publication.

Since 2018, Bryan has worked alongside his manager and partner, Yuri Ortiz, with whom he runs Mixi Art Studio, an exhibition space in the city where he resides, dedicated to transdisciplinarity in art, where he serves as executive and operations director.

His commitment to art extends beyond tattooing, having trained in Curatorship, Museography, and Conservation at the Mexican Institute of Curatorship and Restoration, and in Exhibition Design at the NODE Center in Berlin, where he is currently pursuing a diploma.

His work has been featured in collective exhibitions that seek to expand dialogues and explore the boundaries of contemporary artistic practices.
