PORTFOLIO

“Chiaroscuro” looks at reinventing the nightclub typology into a space that caters to the escapist needs of contemporary society. The history of this typology is both a social as well as a technological one - nightclubs being the epitome of both the nocturnal public agora and a laboratory for technological and multimedia experimentation. Essentially, nightclubs make use of technology in a way that reconstructs the narrative of time and space - mostly by means of sensorial overstimulation, thus achieving a space that exists outside of social norms.
The project is envisioned as a spatial allegory where architecture is meant to create immersive atmospheres that challenge the user’s narrative sense making to the point of complete evasion from the quotidian.

The project is located at Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom and just like the Yggdrasil tree, it aims to become a tool for organizing and bringing together different worlds. At the same time it is a critique and reaction to the obsoletion of the airport typology as it is currently known. Establishing an enclosed CO2 cycle within the airport is one of the mai drivers of the project. Therefore, each tower cluster fulfills CO2 synthesizing functions where the gas is turned into either energy, fuel for the planes or sediments that can be used as building materials or plant fertilizers. A vertical gate prototype has been implemented that intends to act similar to a funnel for the CO2 cycle - synthesizing it into the aforementioned products.

The Modern Museum of Audible Space is a network of installation art galleries and spaces for artists to create - proposed as an expansion of the public space around New York’s shoreline.
The gallery space is regarded not as a neutral container, but as a historical construct; the museal space of the 21st century is a place of polemic and a relevant mechanism of societal diagnosis.
Drawing from the rich history of the New York Piers, the space is envisioned as a network within which radical thought can unfold and be introduced to a more general audience.
Sound constitutes the connective tissue of this network – this stems from the ambition of creating a languageless communication between the different components that compose the art world.

Situated at the border between alternative and modern medicine, the project Blue Mindfulness aims at a holistic approach towards mental health. Engaging the use of water, which has been associated with therapeutic and healing effects, an atmospheric spatiality is proposed as a component of the framework concerning well-being. Tapping into the knowledge offered by the traditional sanatorium typology, we focus on reinterpreting the defining characteristics of this category in resonance with today’s demands. The new paradigm comprises architectural thought and space as a reinforcement of pragmatic healing efforts and is intended as a part of the urban mechanism, rather than a programmed add-on.

The spatial organisation of the proposed project aims at creating a dynamic community space. Most strategies employed in assembling this new piece of urban fabric draw inspiration from the strong character of the City of Zlin. Geared towards mitigating the rupture between the workers’ colony residential area and the eastern side of the city centre, the design is highly porous and rich in areas that are meant to bring people together. Ultimately, by means of its position along the newly proposed axis, the complex becomes a gate towards the flourishing SVIT area. The main programs of the design work in a decentralised way. By bringing together unexpected functions the space becomes vibrant and the urban fabric is activated in an unique way.
