STARS Called to Scenes of Two Incidences Involving Ste. Anne Residents On July 12, Powerview RCMP responded to a drowning, at a quarry, across from Great Falls Dam. A male was with friends, when he supposedly jumped into the water, he could not swim and began struggling. Several of his friends attempted to help, however the male went under the water and did not come up. Several bystanders came to assist, where he was found, pulled from the water and CPR was initiated. Air ambulance was called to the scene at about 3:10 pm. When STARS arrived, bystanders and local paramedics were already working to resuscitate the man. Local paramedics took the local Ste. Anne man, 21 year old Taylor Stickney, to the closest hospital in Pine Falls in critical, life-threatening condition where he tragically passed away. Manitoba Hydro says the gate that leads to an abandoned quarry at Great Falls Dam will be locked to keep swimmers away after the drowning death. Security will also be added until a decision is made on how to keep the public safe at the unsupervised quarry which has become popular with swimmers in recent years. On July 26, STARS was called in early Sun-
day evening to medi-vac an injured passenger from an accident on the Trans Canada Highway at the Richer junction. Two 30 year old Ste. Anne residents, a male and female, were sitting at the stop sign on the north side of #1 on an ORV waiting to cross the highway when a vehicle heading out of Richer on the 302 with 2 females tried to cross the highway. They were t-boned by a man and his dog traveling west on the Trans Canada. The two cars then smashed into the quad at the stop sign. Richer Fire Department, RCMP and ambulances, along with STARS attended the scene. One of the female passenger was air lifted to the hospital by STARS. Everyone else involved luckily walked away with minor injuries. continued on page 2
