Renovo PTSD Healing Center for Veterans Detroit, MI America is great-full for the service provided by their brave veterans. Unfortunately, veterans may suffer the consequences after the war. This institution was designed to help veterans overcome their post traumatic stress with different activities and environments throughout the building.

Renovo takes into consideration the wellbeing of their paitients and their privacy as well as their need for them to interact with family and friends.

Which is why the activities held on the lower floors of the facility are meet to be public and enjoyed both by the patients and their families. The higher levels are more private for patients to meditate and, if they wish to, talk about their experience with professionals.

The structure of the facility counts with wooden louvers that run all the way from the top of the building to the bottom floor. It’s rhythm and organization varies depending on the desired privacy of each floor; the closer the louvers are the more private the space is. Since Detroit has a cold weather all of the activities are held inside of the building except for to terraces on the 5th and 3rd floor which are secure for the patients to enjoy a little bit of nature while they are still safe and contributes with the building form.

THOMPSON CENTER HEALTHCARE CENTER Charleston, SC The Thompson Center is a multi-family housing and educational center for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

When a family member has a developmental disability, parents and siblings work together to provide 24- hour care and support. Parents often worry about the care that their children will receive when they are no longer physically able to provide their support This leaves siblings in a position of immense responsibility at a relative young age.

This project seeks to provide a dedicated space for families with developmental disabilities to educate and nurture children in a supportive environment, allowing the disabled individuals to remain on the site through adulthood.

It’s focus is to give the residents a natural experience with nature. Throughout the building they can interact with various courtyards and always have a visual escape to nature allowing them to feel connected with the outdoors constantly so that the patients do not feel like the are interned in a medical facility.

The structure of the building also refers a lot to nature. The wooden panels on the facade and the wood beams in the interior are intended to remind the viewers to nature and give them a cozy, warm feeling. This is to help the patients to feel as comfortable as possible making them forget that they are in a clinical facility so that they can enjoy their time at the Thomas Center.

Harmony Of Mind Kyudo Japanese Archery Arena Boca Raton, FL

Kyudo, the way of the bow, 15 a living tradition of meditative archery rooted in old warrior traditions of Japan. The perfect mastery of the bow was considered an art by the samurai, an art that knew no other goal than the highest experience of the here and now, of the moment as it is, beyond any strategies of thought and concept.

Today, kyudo is being practiced by thousands of people all over the world for their mental schooling as well as for their physical, mental and spiritual development. The simple elegance of the movements, the beauty of the bow and arrows and the atmosphere of quietness and dignity predominant in the practice of time and place, have a great fascination for those who wish to work upon the path of self-knowledge.

Architecture can play a role by facilitating the spatial condition to achieve such harmonious mental state of mind. Harmony of Mind purpose is to provide an authentic Japanese cultural experience that entertain, educate and inspire.

VENTILO Transit Station Sinaia, Rumania Ventilo transit station is a facility which objective is to connect the two main streets close to Sinaia’s train station.

It creates a pleasant environment for tourists and locals to access their trains and buses. The building is based mainly on vertical circulation and how one can enjoy the experience of waiting for the bus or train. It is also designed to keep the building warm during the cold weather. It counts with various waiting areas as well as retail and dinning areas for visitors to enjoy their time at Ventilo.

The form of the building resembles a wave, intending it to look love a smooth wave running down the cliff in Sinaia. When accessing the building one can enter the building escaping the cold or can experience the grand staircase attached to the elevation of the building, walking simultaneously as someone on the inside. The exterior cafe includes a fireplace so one can also visit it during the winter. The louvers on the celling of the facility serve as a cooling system, embracing the sun rays and also as a visual representation of the wave that the building embody.
