Located in Virreyes neighborhood of Mexico City. Famously known for being the location of multiple corporate buildings and for its contiguity to the Chapultepec Park, thus being an area where the sport world converges with the corporate world. Pololi is a restaurant mostly frequented by users of these corporate centers, looking for a greater clientele capacity was the main purpose to begin with the remodeling project. Understanding that there is a sports community that interacts through the area in the mornings, it is that “ClubHaus” interferes looking to give attention and attract a new clientele to Pololi. Thus, creating a meeting place not only for recurring office workers in the area but also for athletes. The total space is 77m2. Having a front of 4.8 meters by 15.7 meters deep. The “vertical” axis begins with an area shared between the kitchen and clientele, where a food bar that was integrated to provide a new culinary experience where the diner has direct contact with the preparation of their food. The main strategy used to open the space was an open kitchen concept. A sports bar was created the back of the place, so that the clientele can enjoy of a more private area.
A simple, functional and aesthetic design was sought out with the selection of common materials with a different application to give it a modern appearance with the use of gray quarry, porcelain floor and a plaster wall finish that emulates polished concrete. To complement the design, a contrast in the tonality of the space is obtained by integrating oak wood applied to the details of the commercial furniture.
Speakeasy bars started during the Prohibition era in the United States, where the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol were banned. These bars operated illegally and served alcohol in secret to customers who entered through hidden doors and had to give a password for entry. These secret establishments offered a sense of excitement and danger for patrons looking to escape the ban on alcohol.
As Prohibition ended in 1933, speakeasies slowly faded away, but the concept of a secretive, hidden bar has been revived in recent years. Today, speakeasy bars aim to recreate the glamour and allure of the Prohibition era, often with a vintage or throwback theme. Patrons are still required to find hidden entrances or give a password for entry, and drinks are served in a carefully curated atmosphere, often with live music, signature cocktails, and vintage decor. The speakeasy bar experience has become a popular trend in the hospitality industry, offering a unique and immersive experience for customers looking for something different.
Handshake Bar is located in the 11th place of the best bars in the world according to the magazine “The World’s 50 Best Bars” in the list of the year 2022. Previously in 2021 it was located in the 25th place. Attracting a vast international clientele that seeks to experience this list, Handshake Bar, currently has a location where the flow of users exceeded the service area. It seeks to expand a second location for a greater capacity of people. This place seeks to provide a unique experience in the world of mixology and hospitality. Each drink is prepared with a traditional process, for which a laboratory is designed that provides space for experimentation with ingredients and decanting machines. By opening this second room, Handhsake hopes that by 2023 it will be able to climb the list and rank as the best bar in the world. In collaboration with architect Eduardo Alanís.
The “Club de Jóvenes Neza” seeks to provide a space to develop skills. Focused specifically on the community of Nezahualcótl, a county located in Estado de México This club is created with the idea where teen girls and boys can find a vocation a talent or a sport they want to develop. All this takes place after school hours.
A large number of young people are left unsupervised once they finish their classes. Due to the country’s working conditions where the workday ends at 7 pm, children are left waiting for their parents to return from work for around 4 hours without adult supervision. In the absence of this supervision, they often go out into the streets, where in a district like Nezahualcóyotl, these groups of children are vulnerable to the situations and dangers of the street, which puts their safety and integrity at risk. In the absence of safe spaces, insecurity and violence hinder the healthy development of other activities in which children could engage.
This club seeks to provide a safe and healthy space for the education, creativity, and physical development of girls, boys, and adolescents. We must attend to vulnerable and at-risk youth to be able to find and develop their full potential through extracurricular activity programs. Activities that encourage young people to develop and subsequently find a talent in which they feel secure and decide in the future to pursue the possible vocation they can find in this club. All users of this club are potential talents.
The project has a gym, sports field, music rooms, kitchen rooms, computer rooms and even an area assigned for the psychological care of young people. The roof that surrounds the entire building is used as a large open patio where different outdoor activities, even classes can be carried out.
