Shaheed Divas Today is the day, when in 1931 March, Bhagat Singh, Shivam Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were hanged to death by Britishers. In fond memory of these freedom fighters we observe 23rd March every year as Shaheed Divas. On remembering them, we feel proud and happy to have got them in the pages of our history and also feel sadness for losing them too early. These three youngsters followed the saying- "Death or Glory� and spent their lives for our country and taught us how-to live-in people's heart even after death! My humble tribute to the greatest Indian freedom fighters- said Chandrakant Patil on this day of Shahid Divas.
Chandrakant Patil, the Revenue Minister of Maharashtra state, went on to remember how these freedom fighter’s childhood was. Bhagat Singh was born with a sense of patriotism, his family was full of freedom fighters. Jallianwala Bagh massacre which took place in 1919, had a great impact on him, it instilled in him a sense of revolution to do something for his motherland, Sukhdev Thapar was the chief of the Punjab unit of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). Rajguru was also a revolutionary and believed that independence cannot be gained through non-violence. These three gentlemen believed in working hard and taking quick decisions, they believed in the fast result and giving a befitting answer to the Britishers. Shri Chandrakant Patil, who is also the Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, narrated an incident which was the turning point in Bhagat Singh's life. Lala Lajpat Rai had participated in Quit India Movement. Hundreds of people supported him in this movement, the British police superintendent James Scott announced lathi charge in which Lalaji got severely injured. Lalaji passed away due to a heart attack. It arose a stream of rage in Indians and Bhagat Singh along with Rajguru planed a shootout to kill Scott. But it turned out, by mistake, they killed John Saunders, a British police officer mistaking him to be Scott. They managed to escape from the scene with the help of Chandrashekhar Azad. They found a mentor and leader in Chandra Shekhar Azad. Shri Patil went on to narrate another incidence which showcased the daring and bold nature of Bhagat Singh. Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt appeared in the Central legislative assembly, in Delhi, in April 1929. Both exploded two bombs inside the assembly and started showering leaflets, towards the legislators who were seated below the gallery.
