The Resort at New Harmony The storefronts and homes of New Harmony have formed a roofscape that undulates, curves, and flattens; the slopes and pitches influence the town’s urban fabric, and my goal was to design a building with a covering that could continue its unique cadence. Similarly, wide porches, evocative of the traditional dogtrot floorplan, offer outdoor rooms while protecting guests from the Midwest’s unpredictable weather.

The Resort at New Harmony is a mixed-use center with a singular floorplan that shares a hotel, spa, and restaurant. Hotel guests enter the building off of Tavern Street, while patrons of the spa access their facilities on Church Street. A general entrance, which serves as the main entrance to the restaurant, is located on Main Street. I planned this building with three purposes in mind: that the new structure harmonizes with what is there, that guests may have a journey within the building, and to utilize local materials and customs.
