C1.2. Addressing Merri Creek

NATURAL CONTEXT CIRCULATION

URBAN CONTEXT

Undertaking a desktop exploration and site analysis of Merri Creek provided useful data in choosing the site for my ‘BOUNDARIES’ insert. However, it would be the on-site obsarvences that would ultimately determine the functionality of my insert.

The location I arrived upon was on the river front, given my human and natural systems research (this is to come). The boundary crosses the river as a mechanism for physical engagement with the river, while also acting as filtration for the courseway. This creates an opportunity for Merri Creek patrons that was otherwise not there.

The contours and gentle sloping of the site itself proved to be a major contributor to the overall form. As such, generating a 3D topographic representation of the sloping riverbank was imperative to get right.
