Phone Calls- Phone Use

Students are not permitted to call parents during the day unless they have been authorized by the homeroom teacher or office personnel. Preschooler’s are not permitted to bring any personal devices to school.

Students should know how they are getting home at the end of the day and parents should be aware of tutoring and after school activities, so that daily phone use for making after school arrangements is not necessary.

Forgotten Items

Students are not permitted to call home for forgotten items. Students may, however, call home for forgotten lunches. Lunches may be brought to the office, not the child’s homeroom.

Lost and Found

Any items found in the school building or on the school grounds will be placed in the Lost and Found basket found in the office. Items placed in the Lost and Found will be displayed quarterly. After each quarter, items will be donated to charity. Students who lose a library book, textbook or workbook must pay the replacement cost of the book plus shipping in order to receive a new copy.

Money and Valuables

Students are asked not to bring money or valuables to school. All fees owed to the school should be turned in to the office at the start of the day. Students should not be carrying money around the building or leaving it in backpacks and desks. The same is true of valuable items that have been brought from home. St. Francis School will not be responsible for money or valuables that are lost or stolen.

Returning to School After Dismissal

Students are encouraged to take with them at the time of dismissal all assignments and books needed for homework completion. At dismissal, teachers and aides walk students out of the building and to buses. Brothers and sisters should meet outside. They will not be permitted to run in and out of the building after school. Teachers will remain outside with students until 2:45. At 2:45 students who have not been picked up will be escorted to the Extended Day Program and parents will be charged the hourly fee.

Students should know how they are going home, when they leave for school in the morning. Students may not call home on a daily basis to receive going-home instructions.

Student Records/Files/Permanent Records and Confidentiality

Student records, including permanent records, are filed in the school office. To protect the confidentiality of students, they may never leave the school office.

Records for students transferring to other schools will be sent though the United States Postal Service. Records will transfer only after all financial obligations to the school have been met.

Desk Policy

Desks are the property of St. Francis School. They must be kept neat and clean at all times. Desks may be inspected at any time.

Search Policy

St. Francis School may search a student’s desk, handbag, book bag, personal devices or person, if school officials have suspicion that the student possesses a weapon or other prohibited objects or substances.

St. Francis School reserves the right to search anything brought onto school property including cell phones, text messages, photos etc.

Theft Policy

At St. Francis School we have no lockers for the students. All personal items are kept in the students’ desks and in open coat trooms and cubbies. We also discourage students from bringing expensive items of clothing. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items of any kind.

Theft is a serious matter and is subject to disciplinary action and may warrant notification of the Cleveland Police, immediate suspension or expulsion.

Custody Policy

It is the obligation of the custodial parent to provide and update custody papers. St. Francis School will follow the terms of the custody decree.

Transfer of Students

Notice of withdrawal of a student should be made by the parent in writing to the principal in advance of the withdrawal date. This enables the school to prepare necessary information and settle accounts. No student records will be forwarded to another school until all school accounts have been settled.

Birthday Celebrations

As a special privilege, students may have a non-uniform day on their birthdays. The clothing worn must be appropriate for a Catholic school. Shirts with writing on them should be in keeping with Christian values.

In order to follow the Wellness Policy, birthday treats may not be served in the cafeteria or classrooms. We suggest a non-food substitute if you wish to treat your child’s classmates on a birthday.
