Ok, let’s admit it, 2020 has NOT been a good year!

We’ve got COVID-19, poorly managed and underplayed while people are losing their lives, families are saying a premature farewell to those deeply loved, and teens are kept from school, graduations, celebration parties and a normal start to college.

We’ve got global warming contributing

to wildfires in California that are destroying beautiful homes and forests.

We’ve had the tragic

and senseless killings of our black neighbors, including George Floyd and right here in Georgia, Ahmaud Arbery. We’ve said good-bye to two of our greatest American heroes – John Lewis and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who spent their lives working for all-inclusive equity, civil rights and social justice.

Sometimes I feel hopeless and overwhelmed, tempted to crawl back into bed, pull the covers over my head and block it all out!!!!!

But we CANNOT give up.

As hard as it is

sometimes, we must See, Believe and Act.

We must

SEE that gender violence is wrong and advocate against it whenever and wherever possible.

We

AS THE WORDS OF AN OLD CLASSIC SAY:

must listen softly and BELIEVE our friend when he cries about what happened to him, and walk with him to find help and support.

If we haven’t

registered to vote or aren’t yet old enough, we must ACT to register as soon as we can, and then we must VOTE. Vote like our freedom, voice, values and justice depend on it.

We must SEE our own biases

and be open to challenging and changing them. We must BELIEVE that black and brown people experience this country, the police and justice in a different way than white people and listen with an open heart when they share their reality.

We must

ACT to promote peace, caring, and kindness.

We

must never give up the firm believe that our actions move us to a world that is welcoming and safe for everyone.

As the

Founder and Executive Director of Shifted Masterpiece, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that serves and supports domestic violence survivors, families, and at-risk youth, Vee SpeakLife is a change agent.

ANNE-MARIE BROWN Anne-Marie Brown, LCSW, MSW, MCAP, CIP, ICADC, has worked in the field of mental health for over 15 years. She is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant, a TF-CBT Certified Therapist, a Registered Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator, and a Qualified Supervisor for Clinical Social Workers and addiction professional candidates. Anne-Marie has experience working with children, adults, and families who have experienced trauma, adolescents and adults struggling with substance use disorders, and individuals with co-occurring disorders. She currently focuses on providing individual and family therapy for children and caregivers who have experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect through the Childhood Trauma Response Program at Center for Child Counseling and at her private practice in South Florida.

MODERATORS SAMANTHA MACEDO Samantha Macedo is the Vice President of Prevention & Outreach at Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV). She received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Georgia State University. Macedo began working at PADV in 2010 and has worked extensively with survivors of intimate partner violence, first as a Community Outreach Advocate, then later as a Teen Advocate. As a VP of Prevention & Outreach, she oversees the Legal Advocacy, Community Outreach (including Police Engagement) and Teen Dating Violence Prevention Programs for MetroAtlanta, Georgia.

JEFFERY BROWN Jeffrey Brown currently serves as the Vice President of Development and Marketing for the Partnership Against Domestic Violence. He brings 12 years of development and marketing experience to PADV along with over 14 years of sales experience. Jeffrey currently serves as the Vice President of UGA’s Black Alumni Leadership Council and the Chair for the Association of Fundraising Professional – Diversity Committee.

Jeffrey serves his immediate community

by volunteering for the Five Star Academy where he mentors 9th grade African American males at Dacula High School.

Jeffrey is also an active member of the

Sigma Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated.

Jeffrey prides himself in

being named 2019 Georgia Trends Magazine 40 Under 40.

MODERATORS JENANI "JEN" SRIJEYANTHAN Jenani Srijeyanthan (they/she/them), Coordinator of Dating Violence Prevention, joined Partnership Against Domestic Violence in August 2019. They hold a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University with a minor in American Studies. Prior to PADV, she worked on various neuroscientific and legal anthropological research projects at Emory University. As Coordinator of Dating Violence Prevention, they are responsible for the overall coordination of the Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program throughout the metro-Atlanta area, its surrounding counties, and the State of Georgia. Jenani also participates in the oversight of the Georgia Teen Advocates Network, which unites youth- and youngadult-focused professionals in Georgia in the mission to end dating violence on a state-wide level. They work with community stakeholders to provide dating violence prevention programming and resources to the widest audience possible.

TAYLOR SHROPSHIRE Taylor Shropshire, Teen Empowerment Advocate, joined Partnership Against Domestic Violence in December 2019.

Prior to her employment with the agency, Taylor served as a Teen Dating Violence Prevention Intern from August 2018 to March 2019. As the Teen Empowerment Advocate, Taylor facilitates workshops and educational opportunities throughout Metro Atlanta on topics surrounding dating violence and healthy relationships.

Taylor also works alongside PADV’s Teen Advisory Board, which consists of high school and college students that have joined the organization in ending the crime of intimate partner violence

SPEAKERS NANCY FRIAUF Nancy Friauf is the current President and CEO for Partnership Against Domestic Violence, the largest domestic violence agency in Georgia. A graduate of Leadership Gwinnett, the Regional Leadership Institute, and the Harvard Business School Executive Education program: Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management, her previous work experience includes program director for the battered women’s and rape crisis program of the YWCA of Cobb County, Executive Director for the Gwinnett Children’s Shelter, Executive Director of Genesis Shelter. She has a Master of Education in Community Counseling and a Master of Public Administration in Nonprofit Management from Georgia State University.

RAYNA WOODEN Rayna Wooden is Vice President of Operations at Partnership Against Domestic Violence. Rayna graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications. Rayna serves in a key leadership role at PADV, being one of six people on the PADV Leadership Team. She provides direction and leadership for all of PADV's Human Resources management, she provides oversite and review of all vendor contracts and leads the agency in IT management, upgrades, and strategic direction.

Rayna

works closely with the PADV board of directors to provide mission focused operational strategies for the $4.2 million dollar agency.

EBONY RUSSELL Ebony Russell has been with Partnership Against Domestic Violence for six years, and currently serves as the Underserved Communities Outreach Advocate.

Russell started off with PADV as a Family Advocate.

She also served as a Child Advocate, developing a daily homework help session and a mentoring program that the Safe Houses continue to utilize. Ebony recently started support groups at the Gwinnett County Department of Correction, The Center for Visually Impaired and a local homeless shelter. She is also the treasurer for the Gwinnett County Family Violence Task Force.

Ebony received her Master’s

degree in Social Work from North Carolina State University.

JORDYN EASTERLING Jordyn Easterling is currently a senior at Georgia State University majoring in Public Health. On campus she is the President of the Undergraduate Public Health Club, and a College Prevention leader to end the opioid epidemic. Jordyn currently works at Emory University Hospital as a nursing assistant and has over 4 years of clinical experience. Jordyn will be going into her masters program after graduating to receive her Masters in Public Health. Jordyn is dedicated to working to end opioid overdose, gender based violence, and committed to creating a equitable society for marginalized communities. When not in school or work, Jordyn can be found biking around the city, or out enjoying food and drinks!

LYDIA KNOWLES Lydia Knowles is currently a junior at Agnes Scott College, where they are completing a Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies/Philosophy double major. On campus they run an abolitionist movement, where they work alongside students to develop community-based approaches to mediating conflict. Lydia plans on attending law school after undergraduate, and then furthering their career as a Human Rights attorney. When not in school, they’re sometimes working on a short poetry series or personal essays.

SPEAKERS (SEE & BELIEVE) MARY KONEIG Mary is a social worker in the Fulton County Safe Families Office, connecting survivors of intimate partner abuse with resources and support after they have filed for a temporary protective order. Before working at the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, Mary graduated with a Master’s in Social Work and Master’s in Public Health from the University of North Carolina. She has worked in violence prevention education, research, and advocacy. She is dedicated to working against gender-based violence and supporting survivors.

JENNIFER WILDS Jennifer Wilds studied Psychology and Elementary Education at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. She worked towards a more inclusive approach for five years at Families and Community Together (FACT) in New Jersey and also since working with View Point Health in Georgia in multiple capacities since 2006, including her current role as Program Manager in Community Programs and Zero Suicide Initiative. She is a certified trainer for QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) for suicide prevention and Youth Mental Health First Aid and an advocate for youth and families on personal, county and state levels.

ALEX CORY Alex is a Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator for the Working to Institutionalize Sex Education (WISE) Initiative at the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential in Atlanta, GA. She trains and advises school-based staff who are interested in comprehensive sex education. Alex has earned a Bachelor of Science in Family and Child Studies and a Master of Social Work from Grambling State University.

Her professional background includes amending sex education curricula to fit within school and state policy and working with adults living with substance use disorder.

SPEAKERS (SEE & BELIEVE) DR. MAURICE GRANGER Dr. Maurice L. Granger is the Coordinator of Student Discipline and Title IX for the Atlanta Public Schools where he is responsible for implementing policies to ensure that all schools are safe and conducive to learning. Additionally, Dr. Granger has a vital role in providing guidance to district administrators on district discipline policies and state/federal laws, which includes the coordination of Title IX for all student related matters in the district. As the Coordinator of Student Discipline and Title IX, Dr. Granger collaborates with support services and instructional teams to ensure a progressive discipline approach is used as a response to violations in the districts code of conduct, and a heavy emphasis is placed on socio-emotional learning and interventions to prevent and reduce inappropriate behaviors while focusing on the “Whole Child.”

JENNIFER GAGEN Jennifer Gagen is a VOICE Advocate at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta and assists student victim-survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking. She also facilitates sexual violence prevention education to students, faculty, and staff. She has ten years of experience in campus victim advocacy and previously worked at Florida State University. Jennifer was the recipient of the Himmat Award from Raksha, Inc. in 2017 and the Big Bend Victim Assistance Coalition’s Charles Morris Victim Advocate of the Year award in 2015. She has a Master of Social Work degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminology & Criminal Justice, both from Florida State University.

SPEAKERS (BELIEVE & ACT) COLETTE COLEMAN Colette Cottman is an experienced HR Professional, Training and Community Development Leader with an extensive background in outreach and volunteer management; working with military, civil servants, educators, corporate and small business professionals at multiple organizational levels. She has a documented record of success in creating, promoting, and delivering training solutions designed to support organizational posture, positioning, objectives and exceptional outcomes.

DANTE JACKSON Dante Jackson is a special agent with the Department of Justice and serves as a board member for the Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV).

Prior to

being named as a board member in 2016, Jackson served as a volunteer at the PADV Gwinnett County shelter.

Agent Jackson has worked at the Department

of Justice for approximately 19 years.

During his career

Agent Jackson has worked a variety of investigations targeting members of Colombian organized crime, narco-trafficking, violent street gangs, Eastern European organized crime, and cyber security.

Agent

Jackson earned a MS in Criminal Justice Management from Sam Houston State University and holds several cyber security certifications.

MARK BRACEY Mark works with the Decatur and Stone Mountain Alumni Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi (KAP) fraternity, the DeKalb Solicitor’s Office, and International Women’s House on an Engaging Men grant from the Office on Violence Against Women.

The goal of that grant is to

bring a greater understanding of gender equality to the young men and boys of the Kappa Alpha Psi Guide Right program.

Under the grant, he engages KAP alumni

members in the Because We Have Daughters program of MSV and will be conducting two summer internship programs for young men in high school to be leaders in sexual assault prevention.

SPEAKERS (BELIEVE & ACT) NZINGHA HALL Originally from Saint Louis, MO, Nzingha is an Atlanta transplant who recently earned her Master of Public Health degree from Morehouse School of Medicine with an emphasis in global health, health communications, and reproductive health.

Nzingha is the Manager of Youth Programs at SisterLove, Inc. She has experience in the abortion care setting as an abortion doula, reproductive health counselor, and financial coordinator.

TING TRAN Ting (They/Them) is a self-taught artist based in Atlanta, GA (Mvskoke land). Their art is primarily inspired by their experiences navigating existence as a Chinese, queer, non-binary femme.

Their work aims to amplify

the struggles of oppressed communities, provide radical education, and show the beauty of collective resilience through vibrant colors, elements of surrealism, and portraiture.

APARNA BHATTACHARYYA Aparna has served as Executive Director of Raksha since 1998. Over the years, she has been a part of creating organizations like Tapestri, Inc and International Women’s House to meet the needs of immigrant and refugee survivors, She served as vice president for the

board

Cross Keys Foundation in 2011,

Much of Aparna’ work is focused on training on the needs of underserved communities. She was a White House Champion of Change in May 2013 with other Asian American Women leaders. In

2018 she received

the Hope for Tomorrow Award from International Women’s House for her advocacy work.

SPEAKERS (BELIEVE & ACT)

FEROZA SYED Feroza Syed (uses She/Her pronouns) is a trans activist and advocate. She is also one of the appointees to Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms historic first LGBTQ Advisory Board for the City of Atlanta.

After coming out to a

viral facebook post as a trans woman living in anonymity, Feroza has quickly jumped into activism head on.

She has worked as a

facilitator for PFLAG John’s Creek, and with numerous organizations in the Atlanta area such as GSSC (Georgia Safe schools Coalition), Asian Q & A (Queer and Adolescent), and DesiQ Diaspora to create a safe space for Asian and Pacific Islander youth. She also spends her time bringing light to the struggles of the trans and LGBTQ community, specifically for people of color and LGBTQ youth.

BEN HASEEN "Ben Haseen is a trans man and one of the first openly trans persons of South Asian descent attending medical school in the United States. He is passionate about LGBTQA+ access to medicine and advocating for universal healthcare rights. He is a published author and researcher focusing on health disparities that affect marginalized groups. He is active on instagram and hosts the Ben Haseen channel on YouTube where he talks about being trans in the healthcare field. Lastly, he is a proud cat dad."

LAVANYA DEVDAS Lavanya Devdas is an Advocate at Raksha. She moved from India after gaining extensive experience in the areas of social work, child rights and justice, mental health counseling and prevention of sexual harassment at workplace.

Her work spanning over 15 years in diverse work settings from working with individuals, communities and organizations through multidisciplinary approach to development, mental health, child rights, equity and social justice has made a difference in people’s lives. Prior to her shift into the development world, she had an active decade long corporate career as Technical Communicator. Here, she is credited for founding Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives focusing on women’s empowerment and children’s fundamental right to education.

AISHA CHOUDHRY Aisha Choudhry is a therapist at Raksha. Aisha has over six years of experience working with children and adolescents.Driven by a passion for healing those that have survived trauma, she takes pride in having worked with clients with various backgrounds, including those that have struggled with depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, sexual assault, domestic violence, substance abuse issues, and child sexual abuse.

Aisha utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, play therapy, and somatic experiencing in her work with clients. She holds a master's degree in social work from Kennesaw State University and currently resides in Atlanta, GA.

ASPIRE NEWS (IPHONE/IPAD/ANDROID) At first glance, it looks like nothing more than simple news feed with real time news stories. However, the help section of the application contains resources for victims of domestic violence. If you’re in a dangerous situation, simply return to the “Help” page and triple-tap the title bar at the top of the page. Your trusted contacts are then sent an SOS text or voice message that you need help. Perfect for victims whose partners closely mentor their partner's phone activity.

"CIRCLE OF 6" APP (ANDROID ONLY) This app allows users to select five contacts from their address book to create a “Circle of 6” supporters. There are three situations where SMS notifications are sent to your Circle of 6 and one emergency where the Love is Respect and RAINN hotlines can be called automatically.

IUDAME APP (ANDROID ONLY) This app allows you to alert a select group of your contacts during an emergency with the touch of a button. You can choose up to five of your contacts to alert, who, along with emergency personnel, will receive your GPS location allowing them to get you help ASAP.

MYPLAN APP (IPHONE/IPAD/ANDROID) This app has been created to help college-aged women and their friends learn about healthy and unhealthy relationships. It also provides personalized information and resources. website: joinonelove.org

THE TECH SAFETY APP BY NNEDV (IPHONE/IPAD/ANDROID) This app contains information that can help someone identify technology-facilitated harassment, stalking, or abuse and includes tips on what can be done.

MTV’S “OVER THE LINE” APP (ANDROID ONLY) This app allows teens to share their stories about being bullied, harassed or disrespected by peers. Other users can then vote on whether their peers were over the line, under it or hanging right around it.

RESPECT EFFECT (IPHONE/IPAD/ANDROID) This app promotes healthy relationships skills by giving daily challenges to complete with your significant other, friends, or family.
