FALL 2011

Virtual Chili Dinner Set Our annual chili dinner is being served up a little differently this year. Over the past few months, our state has been on the road to recovery from deadly and devastating tornados that ripped through our communities. And our churches have been heavily involved in offering a helping hand in recovery efforts. That is why we chose to cancel our Chili/Fall Festival this year. Instead, we would like to have a “virtual” chili dinner. What does that mean? It means that if in the past, you made chili, baked a cake, bought tickets or supported the event in any way, we ask that you consider sending a donation to the ministry in the amount you would have spent. Your generosity and good will help us continue providing quality services for our older adults without taxing our churches that are doing so much. Donating is simple. Send a check to: McCoy Adult Day Care, 730 8th Ave. W., Birmingham, AL 35204, or go to our website to donate online.

Chili Withdrawal? If you are feeling withdrawal from our famous chili, here is the recipe. Send up a prayer for the McCoy Adult Day Care as you enjoy a steaming bowl.

5K Run/Walk

Work off all those pot-luck dinners with the Gathering of Orders 5K Run and Lake Walk Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7 a.m. at Camp Sumatanga. Registration fee is $10. The Gathering of Orders is a time for our clergy to take a break from the business and demands of church work to fellowship with each other and care for themselves. Part of that self-care is physical health. This year at the Orders Gathering, we are inviting everyone to participate in either the 5K run or lake walk. This walk and run is an opportunity not only to focus on our clergies’ health, but to support the mission work of our conference. All money raised will benefit the Mission 2 Gather organizations (www.mission2gather.com). Sponsor your clergy to help them get healthy and support our mission work at the same time.
