Summer means happy times and good sunshine- no one says it better about the season than iconic Beach Boy Brian Wilson. Because what other band embodies what summer is all about if not the Beach Boys? Surfing, sand and hot temperatures bring us all back to our memories of summers past. Who doesn’t have a memory of piling into the back seat of the family car to set off on vacation all the while asking, “are we there yet?” We all remember those trips and coming home tired and sunburned but so happy to have had that time away. Those remembrances stay with us forever and can help when those mid-winter blues make it seem that warm weather may never come again. Just smelling some suntan lotion in February can bring home those summer vibes. Outdoor concerts on hot summer nights have also been a staple of the season. Who doesn’t remember sitting outside with your best friends while you all enjoyed listening to a favorite band. I’m glad to say that Parsippany can be part of future memories with our summer concert series. These concerts have become a tradition just like the July fireworks. The lasting impressions remain with us long after the last note played by the band or the last flash from the fireworks finale. These events are a chance to bring family, friends and neighbors together, all sharing a time that will be looked back on with fondness and nostalgia. knowing that for the next couple of months there was freedom from homework and schedules. Maybe you were lucky enough to be able to stay outside at night until the streetlights came on because the days always seemed endless. Summer camp in town is in full swing and I am sure the times shared by the campers will be remembered as a special time with special friends long after school starts. Summer isn’t just about memories of vacations away from home. Our parks offer the opportunity for families to host reunions or neighborhood bar-b-ques close to their backyards. There are opportunities to start up a softball game or practice some tennis. Our golf courses offer a relaxing morning or afternoon of exercise and camaraderie amongst friends. I like to think that Parsippany will continue to add to people’s memories. As someone who has grown up in town I have seen the changes that come with time, but in my mind I can always go back and revisit those precious moments with family and friends and know they will last a lifetime.
