Mayor Michael A. Soriano The holiday season is upon us! As we move into November, I believe it’s important for all of us to reflect on what we’re thankful for.

Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, and even football, but it’s also a time to think about those who may not be at the same station in life as ourselves. With that in mind, I would encourage all Parsippany residents to seek out opportunities to volunteer for the less fortunate in our area.

Every year, the township is proud to host our Veteran’s Day Ceremony to honor the brave men and women who have served our country.

This year, the ceremony will be held on Veteran’s Day, Monday, November 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at Veteran’s Memorial Park. Speakers will include US Navy veteran Eileen DeGraw and Reverend Donald Bragg of the Parsippany Presbyterian Church, as well as performances by our local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

The Parsippany Historical & Preservation Society will be hosting a Flea Market on Saturday, November 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Smith-Baldwin House, 460 South Beverwyck Road. The event is open to the public, and various general items will be available to purchase from an array of township residents. Get some of your holiday shopping done early right in here in town, from your neighbors!

The days following Thanksgiving are one of the most active shopping periods of the year, and it’s important that we keep as much of that economic activity as possible in our community.

Local businesses are the backbone of any regional economy, and I would like to encourage all residents to shop local.

As the leaves fall from the trees and the temperatures become cooler, life gets a bit harder for those in need. Please consider making a donation to our township’s food pantry, located at the Community Center, 1130 Knoll Road, Lake Hiawatha (973-263-7163).

In addition to food, we accept essentials such as laundry detergents, toothpaste, and diapers.

I would also encourage residents to consider how we can help veterans in need with Veteran’s Day coming up. Please consider a donation to Community Hope NJ, a Parsippany-based charity providing services for veterans, at communityhope-nj.org.

To all resident of our Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills, please enjoy a happy, fun, and safe Thanksgiving season!

Two PHHS Graduates Receive Their Pharmacy White Coats Sonali B. Limbachia and Richa Patel were among the 110 students in Philadelphia College of Pharmacy at University of the Sciences received their white coats at a ceremony on Saturday, September 28.

The white coat ceremony is an annual rite of passage for students in their first professional year (third year) of USciences’ six-year pharmacy program and symbolizes their dedication to the profession of pharmacy and to the care of others.

Both Patel and Limbachia are 2017 graduates of Parsippany Hills High School.

University of the Sciences has prepared students to be leaders and practitioners in the healthcare and science fields for nearly 200 years. Key to its distinctive education is a tradition of hands-on research and experiential learning that is evident in every graduate who has walked its campus.

A Message From the Superintendent Social/Emotional Learning in the Schools: Developing Voice and Leadership

Dr. Barbara Sargent Like many school districts, Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Schools have developed objectives related to social/emotional learning. What exactly is social and emotional learning? It’s a small word for a rather large cluster of behaviors that help guide many of us through a productive, successful, and fruitful life. Some people refer to social/emotional behaviors as ‘soft skills’ - those behaviors like empathy, perspective, communication, self-awareness, and advocacy that are gained over time through social

experiences. There are no quick lessons for teaching empathy or advocacy. These behaviors take time and repetition to hone.

One of the ways we are teaching these skills to students is by providing them with opportunities to have a voice in decision-making and to be leaders in their school settings. Students who view themselves as leaders are more likely to put (Continued on Page 8)

forth their best effort, set high goals, and advocate for themselves. Students who have a voice in school/classroom decisions feel as if they matter and can make a difference. These are empowering feelings that translate well into adult behaviors.

What does leadership development look like in school? Our elementary schools build leadership skills from an early age with opportunities for older students to serve as “Class Buddies” where they might read with younger students, tutor younger children in math and reading, and “appropriately assist with dismissal procedures, bus safety, cafeteria cleanliness, and school diplomacy. At the “Back to School Nights” this year, students participated in the evening as Tour Guides, greeters, and even taught special parent workshops on our online math resources.

The Student-Superintendent Advisory Panel that meets with me regularly is a wonderfully dynamic group that has brought forth such ideas as “study hall passes” for athletes to use during P.E. classes, better sharing of information between our two high

schools about students’ college selection for possible roommate and commuting assistance, and input into district assessment practices. They have been an incredibly thoughtful group and I have appreciated hearing their candid and wise views on matters related to school culture, academics, and overall decision-making.

Each of our schools have a School Climate Committee that meets regularly to review student behavioral trends, social and emotional needs of the school community, and discuss ideas to build a positive learning environment. Many of our schools include student representatives on these committees and, as a result, have heard students’ perspectives on how to make recess more enjoyable, creating a healthier lunch experience, and assembly ideas.

Students are an integral part of the selection process for school administrators. At Lake Hiawatha School, Eastlake School, Troy Hills School, and Parsippany Hills High School, students served as Tour Guides for principal candidates, fielding questions from the candidates and highlighting areas of interest around the school. The students then debriefed with members of the Interview Panels and shared their impressions of each candidate.

Promoting student leadership and voice in our schools is a critical element in developing social and emotional learning. We’re excited about this work and about the amazing young people we interact with each and every day!

PAL Director focuses on the alignment of New Mission, Vision and Values

Not every town has a community center; however, Parsippany has two. Officially, there is Parsippany’s Community Center on Knoll Road - mainly known for providing meals and activities for our actively engaged senior community and hosting our community food pantry.

Less officially, there is the Parsippany Police Athletic League (PAL) Building on Baldwin Road, widely regarded by residents as the place for recreational basketball, toddler tumbling or stamp collecting depending on who you ask.

Sam Yodice is the new Executive Director of the Parsippany PAL who is looking to make things more official. Sam began his new role in March of 2019.

While the PAL is not technically a town organization, paying its own mortgage and managing its own building and programs, it has long been the place where people (primarily children and young adults) found a

recreational outlet.

Sam believes that the PAL can bridge alliances within the Township, find service gaps and bring the right people to the right place (the Parsippany PAL Building and grounds), in order to bring more residents together.

A sports enthusiast, whose favorite phone app is the Bleacher Report delivering sports news, it comes as no surprise to learn he has spent most of his life in and around sports. Playing, coaching and administering athletics and activities has been his life. Sam is married to Danielle, has two daughters Ella (5) and Olivia (2). Formerly employed as the Executive Director of the Passaic County Department of Senior Services, Disability & Veteran Affairs were he lead the department as well as multiple Senior Nutrition and Recreation Centers throughout Passaic County. He is a Current member and former President of the Passaic Valley High School Board of Education, where (Continued on Page 22)

Two Parsippany Teens Earn Eagle Scout Rank

Colin Georges Aguesseau and Timothy William Metcalf The final ascent on the Eagle trail is the longest and the hardest. It is not unusual for this rank to take several years, and many Scouts never make it, but for Timothy William Metcalf and Colin Georges Aguesseau that was different. They worked hard and long and achieved the rank of Eagle. On Sunday, October 20 Troop 173 B.S.A. held an Eagle Court of Honor in which Timothy William Metcalf and Colin Georges Aguesseau were honored with their Eagle Badge.

Scoutmaster Michael Catapano was the Master of Ceremonies. Invocation was by Father Joseph G. Buffardi, Saint Christopher R.C. Church. Tyler Catapano, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader performed the Flag Salute and recited the Scout Oath and Law. Advancement Chair Chris Modin read the certification of the Eagle candidate. Eagle Badge Presentation was presented by Daniel V. Metcalf (for Timothy Metcalf) and Christine Aguesseau (for November 2019

Colin Aguesseau). Eagle Charge was read by Past Scoutmaster John Worthington and the Benediction was by Father Michal A. Falgowski from Saint Christopher R.C. Church.

The Eagle Scout Award is Scouting’s highest rank and among its most familiar icons. Men who have earned it count it among their most treasured possessions. Those who missed it by a whisker remember exactly which requirement they didn’t complete. Americans from all walks of life know that being an Eagle Scout is a great honor. The award is more than a badge. It’s a state of being.

The Eagle Scout may have received the badge as a boy, but you earn it every day as a man. In the words of the Eagle Scout Promise, they do their best each day to make their training and example, their rank and their influence count strongly for better Scouting and for better citizenship in the troop, in their community, and in their contacts with other (Continued on Page 16) Parsippany Focus Magazine l 11

hospitals across New Jersey during November and December to help educate new parents about both normal infant crying “Period of Purple Crying” and the dangers of shaking the infant “Shaken Baby Syndrome.”

PURPLE stands for an exhausting and frustrating period of increased crying that some infants experience in the first few weeks and months after birth. Although it is hard on babies, it is even harder on parents and caregivers. This crying, which is normal, is so overwhelming to parents and caregivers that (Continued on Page 31) November 2019

Woman’s Club is a group of Enthusiastic Women The Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills was organized in April 1954 by a group of enthusiastic women united together for “Service and Fellowship.” For over sixty-five years this group has lived up to their mission statement:

provided the core of volunteers who staffed the library which had one paid librarian at the time.

In 1969, the club helped establish the Parsippany Child Day Care Center on Baldwin Road and continues to support them today.

“The mission of this Club, which is a non-political, non-sectarian organization, shall be to provide a common meeting ground and bring together the women of the community for fellowship and service and to study and take appropriate action in any endeavors which have for their objectives the educational, cultural and civic betterment of the community, and to work in harmony with the General Federation and the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs.”

The club has been particularly active in education.

The annual “Tee Off for Education Golf Classic Luncheon & Tricky Tray” held at the Knoll West Country Club, which began in 1982, is the source of funds for the various educational projects the club supports throughout the year.

In the community, the club has helped drive many projects which still thrive today. For example: In the early 1960’s the Club helped spearhead the drive to establish the Township Library and

Starting in 1955 and continuing today, Citizenship Awards are awarded annually to one deserving boy and girl in the middle schools.

Scholarships to high school seniors began in 19581959. Initially one $300 scholarship was awarded.

The amount and number of scholarships has grown through the years. This past year, ten $1,000 scholarships were awarded to deserving high school seniors both male and female. In 2008, the club (Continued on Page 17)

PHS Alumni Traveled 7,000 miles to surprise college friends

Lionel Zachary Chambers, 23, a 2014 Parsippany High School Graduate traveled more than 7,000 miles across America to surprise his college friends.

After one successful trip to visit a friend who was having a hard time, Chambers decided to surprise the rest of the group.

At Parsippany High School, Chambers was an all conference/all county player in both basketball and track and field. He was captain of both teams in his junior and senior years.

But his five classmates were scattered across America.

Chambers said “I was lucky enough to run track at Cornell and be a Division I athlete after my success in high school.”

Oseoba Airwele lives in Ithaca, New York; Michael and James Smith were in Wayzata, Minnesota; Eason Recto lives in Portland, Oregon and Myles Lazarou lives in Los Angeles.

After high school Lionel attended Cornell University graduating in 2018.

After speaking to their parents and friends to find out when they were available for a surprise visit, Chambers visited one friend each weekend.

Chambers, remains living in Parsippany after college, says the hardest thing about graduating from Cornell University is missing his friends.

The group became close when they joined the track and field team at the Ivy League college, before living together in their junior and senior years.

He drove from New Jersey to Upstate New York before flying to Minnesota, Oregon and California from April to June.

Prosecutor’s Office Partners with NOBLE to Host “Safe Stop” Program at PHHS Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Supervisors Patrick LaGuerre and Spence Osaigbovo joined Parsippany School Resource Officer Detective Gloria Ortiz and Parsippany Hills High School officials to host the “Safe Stop” educational program. This two-day program was provided for students at all grade levels at the School concerning contact with law enforcement officers.

“Safe Stop” is a program sponsored by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), which aims to ensure that every traffic stop in New Jersey ends safely for all involved parties. The presentation educated the students on what to do and what not to do during a traffic stop.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office has partnered with NOBLE presenting programs and working with the community to develop strong relationships with local law enforcement.

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp attended the presentation and stated: “The value of providing our local youth with the Safe Stop program cannot be undervalued. This program provides the Morris

Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men. An average of only 4% of the Boy Scouts actually earn this rank.

The requirements for the Eagle Scout rank are as follows: Be active in your troop and patrol for at least six months as a Life Scout. l Demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath and Law in your everyday life. l Earn 21 merit badges, including the 12 that are required-First Aid, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Personal Fitness, Emergency Preparedness or Lifesaving, Environmental Science, Personal Management, Swimming or Hiking or Cycling, Camping, and Family Life. l Serve actively in an approved position of responsibility for a period of six months after becoming a Life Scout. l Plan, develop, and lead others in carrying out a service project worthy of an Eagle Scout. l Take part in a Scoutmaster conference l Appear before a board of review of prominent persons, and satisfy them that you have done your best to understand and live up to the Scout Oath and Law and, in all ways, qualify for the Eagle Scout Award. l

As Colin progressed through Scouts, he held the role of Patrol Leader four times as well as Scribe. Colin attended BSA National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) in the summer of 2013.

Many of Colin’s best summer memories were made at BSA Camps: Camp Wheeler, which he attended every summer as a Cub Scout and later worked as a Camp Counselor for five years – and Camp Winnebago, which he enjoyed attending with Troop 173 each summer. Among the many highlights there were winning the mile swim in 2016 and the earning “greasy watermelon” for his Troop two years in a row. With his Troop, Colin completed a total of 102 nights of camping, and 31 in a cabin, including on Big Trips to Lake George, Boston and Washington DC. While in Troop 173, Colin participated in 95 community service hours. Colin has continued this tradition of service in his community: joining Explorers Post 131 of the Parsippany Police Dept when they relaunched in the summer of 2016 (promoted to the rank of Sergeant in Jan 2019) and the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Department, District 2, Parsippany-Troy Hills, in 2018.

began giving Reading Awards to a deserving 5th Grade student in each of the town’s elementary schools. And in 2016, the club began holding a Spelling Bee for 5th graders. Last year one of our Parsippany Bee winners went on to win the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Club (NJSFWC) State Spelling Bee. Additionally, the club celebrates Dr. Seuss’s birthday each March by donating books to each branch of the Parsippany library and the Parsippany Child Day Care Center. The club also supports Project Graduation, donates to the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Success for Survivor’s Scholarship, Literacy Volunteers of Morris County and much, much more!

Other favorite projects include baking and packaging cookies that are distributed to local nursing homes, and knitting and crocheting caps for babies and items for foster children. They help to support the county residence for battered women and their children.

They support Head Start of Morris County by providing holiday gifts for the children and we also support the local YMCA and their “Give A Kid the Y” campaign. Extending our concerns, they support the military, both domestic and overseas, by projects such as filling and donating holiday stockings to deployed soldiers (Operation Yellow (Continued on Page 29)

Colin graduated from Parsippany Hills High School in June 2018, but even as he began his college career in Business Administration at the County College of Morris, he continued his Scouting career by joining Troop 173’s Venture Crew, culminating in the once-in-a-lifetime experience of attending Philmont - the BSA’s largest National High Adventure Base - in the summer of 2019, an unforgettable adventure.

rising through the ranks of Scouting under Scoutmasters Ken Galley, John Worthington, and Les Wu; he was very active in the Troop by attending most camp outs and Troop meetings. He also attended National Youth Leadership Training and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He has a total number of 169 camping nights and has earned a total of 32 merit badges. With his extra merit badges, he also earned a bronze and gold Palm. He has a total of 221 service hours with the Troop. During his time with the Troop he held many positions of responsibility including being Troop Guide Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader.

While in the Troop he earned the Scout Scholar Athlete Award and the Pope Pius XII award. He joined Venture Crew 173 associated with the Troop and with that group he attended Philmont in the Summer of 2019.

For his Eagle Project, Timothy renovated an upstairs storage room in the Smith Baldwin Historical House in Parsippany. His crew cleaned out the room, and

Timothy William Metcalf painted walls in the room. Tim designed and the crew built two wood storage units for the room.

He received guidance and encouragement from his Eagle Coach, Ginny Grabinsky, his family, all the adult leaders in his Troop, and Randy Tortorello, his Project Beneficiary. He also received help from his friends and embers of Troop 173. Timothy is thankful for all the support he received with his Project.

PAL Director focuses on the alignment of New Mission, Vision and Values (Continued from Page 10)

he serves as Chair of the Finance Committee and Chair of Athletics/Student Activities Committee. In addition, Sam has a capital improvement background as he currently serves on his local “Open Space Committee” focusing on improving recreational open space and as a member of Alfred H. Bauman “Library Capital Campaign Committee” where they are working to increase and develop new library programing offered to the residents through a building expansion project.

His Non-Profit experience comes as a past executive board member of the Boys & Girls Club where he served as President and Vice President for approx. 10 years providing him significant experience running a youth non-profit organization that operated multiple programs. Not to be outdone he spent 14 years roaming the sidelines as a former coach at Passaic Valley High School, Elizabeth High School, and West Orange High School. Sam says most of his work with the youth was before he was a dad; but now as the father of two young daughters, it has provided new inspiration for balanced youth programming that serves boys and girls equally. It motivated him to become a certified “Recreation Administrator” and make a career delivering serves to the community.

Upgrading Athletic Offerings On the sports scorecard, Sam is working on upping the points to include more activities, while broadening the age range of participants. A recent accomplishment is the addition of volleyball, through an initial educational clinic that he anticipates leading to a future program offering. He tackled the return of wrestling (PTWC) to the PAL after a decade long hiatus and won. And, little kids may not be able to slam dunk, but those from kindergarten through 2nd grade will have a jump start on the game during this winter’s season.

Fostering Leadership and Inclusivity It has been argued that leadership and inclusivity go hand-in-hand, as the best leaders are those who realize the benefits of diverse groups of people. To this point, Sam is hopeful to begin a partnership with the Parsippany Board of Education to further mentoring programs through LEAD (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) and JALP (Juvenile Accountability Leadership Program). While currently there are limited summer programs, under the PAL’s roof, activities can last the full year.

In addition, the PAL hosts weekly meet ups for 22 l Parsippany Focus Magazine

special needs children, a program called “Games with Friends”; and Sam is actively seeking ways to broaden this outreach, by finding ways to also include teens and young adults.

In the future, Sam hopes to further align with corporate sponsors and create an endowments fund that will fund a “PAL Scholarship Program”; an offering to graduating seniors who are impactful within the Parsippany PAL community.

Serving as a Hub for Community Wellness The community will soon be able to attend free monthly wellness seminars, courtesy of the PAL’s first corporate sponsor, Care One at Morris, Parsippany.

The funding will support discussions on nutrition and physical fitness delivered by clinicians and industry experts.

Corporate Giving As a nonprofit solely responsible for a 36,000 sq. ft. building, it is a huge task to staff and maintain the operations of the PAL and still offer new programing.

Sam understands the value of individual donations and grants, but another source of income to consider is corporate sponsorships. Many nonprofits have effectively leveraged corporate sponsorships to increase revenue and develop relationships with well-heeled prospects. A nonprofit sponsorship may seem unattainable for smaller organizations like the PAL, but Sam wants to put a continued emphasis on corporate giving and the wide variety of businesses willing to become sponsors will make it feasible to do more for our community. Sam is looking to partners with local businesses may be looking for ways to increase their visibility and public awareness and hopes that larger businesses may want to soften an austere image by working with charities and NON BETTER THAN THE PAL. Upgrading the Facilities The PAL Building will get a much needed face lift.

However, on the forefront, Sam was faced with three HVAC units that were on the fritz, so he worked within in a state program to receive $125k in state funding to upgrade all 12 HVAC units; a $250K project that will upgrade the entire building to a high efficient HVAC and Ventilation System and replace all the fluorescent lighting to LED lighting throughout the building. Near term discussions surround upgrading the gyms by adding bleachers, wall padding, new basketball backboards, room dividers and replacing the tired scoreboards.

He went from seeing them every day at college and then he started a full time job and it was hard to see them because of the distance.

Lionel said “I was extremely pleased with their reactions and how it all went and my college friends were thrilled to see me.”

“When you put time and money into something, I couldn’t be happier that I was able to pull it off,” he said.

After arriving in each destination Chambers would meet with his friend’s family before surprising them. Myles Lazarou can only repeat ‘woah’ when he sees Chambers at his house.

“Is that Lionel? Dude, how? I’m so confused right now is all he manages to say as he tries to process his shock.”

James Smith, in Minnesota, is cooking with his parents when Chambers suddenly appears in the kitchen.

Looking up from the frying pan he says “I hate you.

What, no, I hate you, leave me alone’ as he laughs and processes what has just happened.”

Airwele is enjoying a walk along a snow-lined path in New York when Chambers taps him on the back.

He grins as he takes his earphones out to greet his friend with ‘you lie’, seeming to indicate Chambers might have told him he was elsewhere that weekend.

Recto, in Portland, is in line for the opening of a dough nut shop when Chambers approaches him.

“What the freakin’ way. No way. I am so excited,’ said Recto.

While waiting for Michael Smith, James brother, to get back from his run Chambers walks outside to meet him before they pull each other in for a hug.

“Being with the people you care about the most. I just feel like the whole weekend there was just a smile on my face,” said Chambers.

“I feel like that’s because when I’m around all these people I am the best version of myself.”

Later, describing his friends’ reactions, Chambers says they felt ‘between really confused and happy’ which was to be expected.

“Their reactions were what I expected of them to be because of how crazy is it for your friend to fly across the country and then randomly show up in your own house – I would be confused, too,” continued Chambers.

“I don’t think that I have ever received so much positive feedback from something I’ve made – I got DMs, texts, calls, and comments off people telling me that they were crying or tearing up watching the video, which I was really surprised by.”

“People told me how much seeing the video made them smile and appreciate their own friendships, which is unreal to me” “So Myles, Easten, Oseoba, Michael and James, no matter how many miles separate us, no matter how many days go by that we don’t see one another. No matter what anyone says, I want to let you know that your friendship means the world to me. I appreciate all of you guys and I love you guys because at the end of the day, after all of these trips, I realized I just wasn’t missing my friends, but I was missing my second family. Until next time boys,” Lionel ended the video.

Chambers graduated Cornell with a BS - Information Science with a minor in Communications. He currently is employed at KPMG LLP as a Digital Technology Producer.

Caral Harrison Celebrates her 90th Birthday Celebrating her 90th birthday, former Parsippany resident Caral Harrison was treated to a surprise party attended by family and friends. Caral and her husband Bill lived in Parsippany for 57 years. They were married for 62 years until Bill died in 2015.

Caral has three children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Last year Caral moved to a nursing home in Wayne.

Caral has been a member of the Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills for 55 years. Before that she was a member of the Rutherford Junior Woman’s Club for 25 years. In both clubs she held various Board positions including club president. She also held positions in the New Jersey Federation of Women’s Clubs. She is very proud of her 80 years in Women’s Clubs!

The Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC (NJSFWC), which is the largest volunteer women’s service organization in the state, providing opportunities for education, leadership training, and community service. Dairy at Lake Hiawatha Celebrates 30th Anniversary The Dairy at Lake Hiawatha has been serving the community for over three decades. The ice cream store was established in 1989 by the Pascarella Family under the Carvel Franchise and became Lake Hiawatha Dairy in 2000 when the family decided to become independently owned.

The owners hire local students from surrounding towns such as Lake Hiawatha, Parsippany, Montville and Boonton. Interesting fact, they now have Dairy Specialists working whose parent worked for the Dairy in years past. The store is open 7 days a week, 12 months a year so the students have the opportunity to form a strong bond, from all the surrounding towns. They call it our “Dairy Family�.

The Dairy offers homemade ice cream, homemade ice cream cakes, custom decorating including picture images for any occasion, hand-turned milkshakes and a variety of ice cream sandwiches made fresh daily. They always have soft chocolate and vanilla running in the machine and we have additional soft flavors based on the season.

The Dairy has been recognized as the Number One Ice Cream Store in both Morris and Essex Counties many time over the last several years. Currently, they are running soft Pumpkin Pie which is quite a favorite. They also have several Dole Whip flavors which is Dairy-free, Vegan, Gluten-free and fat-free running soft daily in the November 2019

store. The most recent Dole Whip flavors are Pineapple, Raspberry and Orange. There are over 50 Homemade Ice Cream Flavors running every day to choose from.

The staff looks forward to supporting not just the immediate community, but their neighbors too such as Montville Baseball & Softball Association, Par-Troy East Little League, Par-Troy Soccer, Montville Broncos Wrestling Team, Troy Hills PTA, Boonton High School Field Hockey, and the Lake Hiawatha Library to name a few.

Their goal has always been to make The Dairy more than a place to go for ice cream, but to make it a place to have an Experience and for their customers to feel the sense of community, love and family.

Second Annual Italian Cultural Food Event was a huge success

The Township of Parsippany held its Second Annual Italian Cultural Food Event on Sunday, October 6 at the intersection of North Beverwyck and Minnehaha Boulevard.

It was widely attended by many residents as well as neighbors from adjoining towns. The Italian Festival is a great venue for classic Italian music and great food.

Parsippany-Troy Hills Mayor Michael Soriano came up with this idea when he first took office in 2018 and it has been a hit amongst our residents.

This is a fun time to play bocce on a beautiful bocce court made just for this day by our Parks and Forestry Department.

The music included two singers from Italy, an Italian DJ and a duo playing the mandolin an accordion instruments.

available from various vendors which included ShopRite and the soon to be opened Whole Foods.

Other local food vendors included Marra’s of Montville (rice balls and meatball sandwiches), Valentino’s (sausage & peppers, penne with marinara sauce), Tuscany Village (chicken francaise, various sandwiches, fresh mozzarella and tomatoes) and Breda’s Pizza (pizza, zeppoles, chicken dishes).

The Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills would like to thank the many sponsors including Connectone Bank, Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany, Picatinny Federal Credit Union, Sports Clips and Garden State Chiropractic Society.

Other popular vendors were Nardelli Cookware and Cooking with Dana who provided various Italian items including cooking utensils, cookbooks and packaged Italian food and specialties.

The event was a little larger than last year with six added vendors. “We want to keep it on a smaller scale and don’t want it to get too large,” said Michael Sifonios, Director of Parks, Forestry and Recreation.

At each of their General Meetings held monthly from September to April (except December) they collect items for various organizations including

food and coupons for the Parsippany Emergency Food Pantry, beverage can tabs for Ronald McDonald House, eyeglasses for New Eyes for the Needy, unused greeting cards sent to the USO for our service men and women, used greeting cards for St. Jude’s Ranch, coupons (even expired) for Troopons also for our service men and women, sample size toiletries for Family Promise to name a few.

They have fun too! Going to lunch or dinner, wreath-making at Holiday time, ceramics party, paint and sip party, theater parties and visiting local museums are just some of the activities their members enjoy.
