INTRODUCTION
What does it mean to Connect, Empower and Thrive? Connect Over 17,000 Coloradans are living courageously with Parkinson’s disease and instead of letting the disease define them, they choose to define themselves and we help them do just that! At PAR, we provide resources for People With Parkinson’s (PWPs) at all points of their diagnosis. We are connecting PWPs to meaningful support, resources and beneficial programs in the community. Connection has been shown to prevent social isolation and to provide encouragement in PWPs. Through our support groups and third-party fundraisers, not only are we providing that connection for those with Parkinson’s, but we are connecting family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and the entire community to learn and engage with Parkinson’s.
Empower This is not easily grasped by anyone, but when empowerment is achieved it can go a long way for someone with Parkinson’s and their loved ones. At PAR, we encourage every PWP to discover and claim their own personal empowerment in order to better manage their disease. Whether this is independently done or in a group, we strive to provide resources so that everyone, including Care Partners, can be empowered. PAR has focused on empowering those in the Parkinson’s community with free exercise classes and educational programs as well as fundraising events. Our goal in providing these resources is to help people with Parkinson’s live life to the fullest without any limitations.
Thrive Many of our free programs and services are supported by grants and sponsorships from our generous partners, but our most meaningful contributions are from those who partake in our lively events or host their own. By encouraging participation, PAR’s constituents thrive by staying active, connecting with others and spreading awareness at fun events with friends and family. Core Values • We are the first place for all Colorado communities to come for care, support and resources related to Parkinson's. • We serve individuals and their families in the way that is most helpful to them. • We care, offering personal attention, guiding individuals the best local resources and advocating for each individual's rights. • We connect the medical community to the Parkinson’s community, providing education and sharing information on clinical research. • We are committed to generating sustainable financial resources to carry out our mission. • We share our expertise and operate our organization with efficiency and transparency. • We create awareness in the Colorado community around PD and advocate for those in our state. • We empower people on their journey, sharing expertise, connecting them to a support network. 6

PARKINSON ASSOCIATION OF THE ROCKIES
MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Jodi Brown
Dear Community: Finally, 2020 has come to an end! We have all endured a lot this year, and my hope is that 2021 brings a fresh new sense of well-being and security. PAR started 2020 with new strategic initiatives to grow even further by providing our services in areas throughout the state that do not currently have access to programs specific to People with Parkinson’s. We were excited to host the Colorado Community Conference in April and had a fun roaring 20’s theme planned for our Empowerment Ball later in the Fall. With COVID-19 shutting down the state in March, we had to adjust our plans, and we did just that! Within the first couple of weeks, PAR moved a handful of free exercise classes to Zoom in order to make sure our constituents had a way to keep moving. By mid-summer, 75% our classes were available either virtually or in-person with strict safety protocols in place. We converted all educational seminars to webinars with our first event on March 21 followed by a COVID-19 and Parkinson’s webinar on March 30 with over 250 attendees! We have since hosted over 30 educational webinars reaching not only the Colorado community but People with Parkinson’s in other states due to our relevant content. The silver lining of the pandemic is that our community has become more comfortable with a virtual format and we will continue to use a mixture of in-person and online programming to increase our reach. Non-profits were hit hard in 2020 as corporations, foundations and individuals were unsure of the economic impact and recovery of our country. PAR was able to cut costs in direct proportion to our reduced revenue and ended 2020 with a small excess, which was added to our reserves. Sincerly,
JODI BROWN
Executive Director 7
OVERVIEW
PAR AT A GLANCE
RECENT ACTIVITY From Year 2020
The Parkinson Association of the Rockies has been resilient through 2020 by ensuring we continued to deliver quality programs and services to the Parkinson’s community during this unprecedented time of COVID-19. PAR moved quickly in March once the shutdown was announced to provide virtual exercise classes, accurate information and education to our constituents. In 2020, we have accomplished the following: • Moved 32 classes to an online format ensuring that our community had options to exercise as this is the one thing that has been scientifically proven to slow disease progression • Sent out weekly eNews updates March – June to help provide accurate information regarding COVID-19 and resources to help our community get through this crisis • Held a webinar on COVID-19 and Parkinson’s in conjuction with UC Doctors, with over 250 attendees • •
Hosted 30 educational webinars reaching not only the Colorado community but People with Parkinson’s nationwide Held our e3 Conference virtually to help energize, educate and empower over 550 attendees
• Logged over 300 calls from our constituents during quarantine with our licensed clinical social worker, Cari, through our information and referral hot line 8
Minority Outreach In 2020, we translated all of our introduction materials and Parkinson's 101 booklets into Spanish, allowing us to grow our reach into Spanish speaking communities. We appointed our Administrative Coordinator, Joanna Aguirre, to Minority Outreach Coordinator. With a collaboration of Physical Therapy students from Regis University, PAR has created a resource guide to provide to physicians all across Colorado, with the intention that they will refer their patients to us, allowing underserved communities to receive our free resources and care. Patient and Family Services Cari Friedman, LCSW, and Patient and Family Services Director, provided one-on-one assessments to 1,916 PWPs and their Care Partners. In her 21 years with PAR, requests for one-onone assessments have increased tremendously and to meet demand, PAR transitioned in-home assessments to virtual house calls for individuals who were newly diagnosed or had a change in their progression while also providing office visits to those who wanted to visit in person. Volunteers PAR values the hard work and feedback our volunteers provide. We recognize the importance of our loyal volunteers who return year after year to help PAR and PWPs build strong relationships and awareness in the community. As PAR continues to grow, we welcome new volunteers to join our team and participate in new opportunities for involvement.

VITALITY 5K WALK & RUN Though we had to move our annual Vitality 5K Walk & Run to a virtual event, we still had a fantastic time and raised $85,790. Moving the Vitality 5K to a virtual format allowed people to participate anywhere they wanted. Our hope is to host the Vitality 5K in-person in 2021 or as a hybrid event with both virtual and in-person components.

EMPOWERMENT BALL
Our 21st Annual Play Fore PAR was a huge success raising $53,051! We were able to host this event in-person and follow COVID-19 safety protocols to ensure a fun and safe event.
For the safety of our community, we hosted the 2020 e3 Conference online. With topics ranging from anxiety and depression to positive self-speak, over 580 attendees nationwide came away from the conference with a better understanding of their disease and tips on living their best lives with Parkinson's.
Our Empowerment Ball was planned to be a big 1920's Great Gatsby theme, but due to COVID-19, it was moved to an online auction, raising $31,230. We hope to return in 2021 with a large scale inperson event themed around the 1980's to commemorate PAR's 40th Anniversary.
