Open Space Pavilion
Zen Garden
Fall 2022
Location: Moss Park
Poor mental health is common with most individuals, having a safe space where one can relax, reflection, and go on about their day is important. Certain locations many people are wearying of due to high drug use or homelessness. This is quite prevalent in Moss Park when doing the site analysis, therefore, creating such pavilion can change their minds of the area in a better light. The Zen Garden is for those who feel overwhelmed and need a place to sit down and reflect.
01
Pavilion is placed in the center of the trail where there is little foot traffic. This pavilion will try to attract as much people and reinvent how Moss park is perceived. Having a unique pavilion in a place many people wouldn’t think of will recreate Moss Park and attract individuals from other locations.
Concept
After doing much research of my location, Moss Park, I decided to create a calm and Zen pavilion. This pavilion will act like a safe space for those in need of help, the wooden structure brings in a feeling of warmth while contrasting with the steel and concrete that hold this structure down. The window panels will bring in natural sun light.
First concept was to create aa waterfall like spiral to represent the feeling of anxiety and stress dripping off you. A feel of fluidity in the structure, however I realized afterwards that if one were to sit inside a spiral pavilion it might make one dizzy or increasers the feeling of stress. Therefore, going for a more structure stiff piece was better to represent a strong mind and thoughts.

AUXILIARY DWELLING
Public/Private Space | Winter 2021
Location: 1st Henry St
This project focuses on how we can incorporate public and private space harmoniously with our work and living space. The public space is a way of connecting to the locals of the area, for this client they create workshops on how to create yarn in a sustainable way with accessible machinery. The public spaces drags onto the well lit cylinder space in the middle where represents the division of private and public, however, moving further to the second floor and rectangular wooden structure will be prohibited as it is a private space. This structure is placed in an alley and parking lot, there is a huge imbalance of natural and man-made space. Implementing natural green space outside and inside the home is one huge component as there is a natural tree growing inside. This tree symbolizes the fact you can find nature in the most urban places. The cylinder window will bring in natural light throughout the spaces lighting up the second floor as well as decreasing the use of artificial lights.

The ethnic demographic majority consists of Chinese immigrates because of the strong influence of China Town. There is a retirement homes as well as churches and associations. With the traffic, there is little to no traffic as well as noise which makes the retirement home a perfect quite neighbourhood for the elderly. Keeping mind, the traffic is taken at 3:30 pm, during that time students are finished school and headed home. Therefore, pedestrian traffic is busy around the schools and restaurants. Heading to College St pedestrian and car traffic is more Prominet since most universities are there.
Concept Model/ Materials
Contrast of texture and colour pallet as well as natural long-lasting resources.
Acacia Wood Steel
Exterior and interior pallet contrast.
Micro cement for the public portion. Micro cement is a coating applied to a surface then sealed off for varnish, this material gives the space a minimalist aesthetic. This finish is not affected by heat or rain.

Community Library
Winter 2023
Location: King and Dufferin
Playfulness in structures are what brings individuals from the community in, to question and be curious. Incorporating static shapes such as cylinder and rectangles we can twist and turn them to whatever we desire. The King and Dufferin community library explores playful shapes, coloured windows and how they reflect in a room as well as green space where individuals can walk around the natural pathways leading towards the building. The space has many recreational spaces such a resource centers with reading rooms, workshop/meeting spaces, as well as performance space and café.

Site Plan/concept
King and Dufferin in Toronto is a very diverse place with rich history and buildings. There are many residential, commercial buildings and offices with local food plazas from the cultural demographic. Art and photography is quite prevalent as there are many aspiring artists in the area.
Majority of the demographic are families, young adults, and elderly. Many of the resident buildings are close by the community library with a park nearby where children play and the elderly sit by the bench.
Transposition is easy to access with coinvent links to the subway station, any time of day there is high foot traffic in the area. Conveniently enough there are cafes and restaurant for a quick food break while commuting.
Having an idea of the shape, creating bubble diagrams helped evenly space each category out. Understanding the suns movement was important since the structure will focus on natural lighting.
Sketching out many diverse forms and structures for the community library. Main goal was to create two main structures, the first building being two story with the café and live music as well as reading rooms and library. The second building being more playful for the children’s library where they have access to iPad and computers, in that space will also have a meeting room.
Coloured cylinder glass in the children’s library, therefore, when light hits the room will be green, red, and blue, giving off a playful feel to the space.
Open space underneath the children’s library building with stairs in a cylinder glass. Benches are inside some of the coloured cylinders for the elderly. Usually, the underneath space would be for client parties and special events such as festivals or art shows.
All glass hallway lounge connected these two separate buildings together, since they contrast each other.

HABITAT PROJECT
Off Grid Living Space | Fall 2022
Location: High Park
This project focuses on off grid living with the idea of “doing more is less.” Students need to live in a 150 sq ft space for a year, this is where we eat, sleep, work, and relax. Instead of focusing on grand structures and designs we must create a imitate space while using sustainable and off grid materials, no electricity is used and how we must use our basicity necessities come into play. Materials we use for our home must be deconstruct able, easy to commute with, almost like a tent. The main focus here is to create a sustainable home that is not permanent and not destroying the landscape. We are toughing the earth lightly with this project. Most designers may not think of suitability and just right into permanent modern structures and designs.

When organizing and separating the space, I was inspired by the Fibonacci sequence. It is evenly spaced.
HALLWAY RENOVATION
Use of colour in design | Fall 2022
Location: OCADU Hallway
The use of colour in design is very important, especially when incorporating colour in a room or space. Colours can affect one’s mood, behavior and thoughts, colours all have psychological effects on humans. This project my focus was to use colour in an efficient way by using stained windows therefore, when the light hits it creates a different atmosphere in the hallway. Not only using colour but creating seating areas invites individuals into the space encouraging them to come into the hallway.
