istorically, education has been something we do to students: “Eighth graders are taught
to solve binomial equations…”
It’s clear that Park takes a different approach. Our mission states that we provide a nurturing environment in which children can develop curiosity, express creativity, appreciate the value of hard work and discipline, and experience the joy of learning. Park’s faculty encourages individual students to strive for intellectual, physical, and moral growth, and to become contributing members of the community. If we are to be successful in developing creative and curious students, we must have a teaching faculty who are encouraged to develop and model these very same attributes. During the summer, as I was getting acclimated Lower Division teachers engage in professional development. to my new post, I was inspired by the many faculty taking advantage of professional development programs. s Park School’s annual Yule Festival approaches, many of us can recount our favorite moments from past celebra-
tions: the lump in our throats the first time we heard “Christmas in the Trenches,” the entire school singing “Light One Candle” (with the
