“The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program is part of Canada 150 Celebrates, the Government of Canada's celebration of our country's 150th anniversary of Confederation. Budget 2016 provided an additional $150 million over two years to Canada’s Regional Development Agencies to deliver further community funding across the country, starting in 2016-17, with Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) being responsible for administering the program in Western Canada. The Oliver Community Centre has received a much-needed renovation with a Government of Canada CIP 150 investment of $72,178. With this funding, the Oliver Parks and Recreation Society has improved the centre, including updating and expanding the weight room, upgrading the HVAC systems to increase energy efficiency, and improving the venue’s accessibility.”

Low Cost/No Cost Recreation

At Oliver Parks and Recreation we don’t want to see anyone left out. To assist with being able to participate in programs there are a few financial assistance options available.

Anyone Can Join

Anyone Can Join is a sponsorship program supported by local organizations like OOWA, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #97 and the Oliver Elks to provide financial assistance to Oliver/Area “C” children, youth and adults towards registration into recreation programs of their choice, up to $150 per person per calendar year. Families or individuals in need of assistance are asked to complete and submit an application form at the Oliver Community Centre. Each form is reviewed in confidence by the Recreation Supervisor and applicants are registered directly into the program using funds provided by sponsors.

JumpStart

Who we fund is simple: Kids. Kids who want to get active. Kids who want to learn a new sport or activity. Kids who want to keep up with a sport or activity they already enjoy. But these kids just need a little extra financial help to get their name on the roster. Kids aged 4 to 18 from families in financial need can receive funding to help with registration fees, equipment and/or transportation. www.jumpstart.canadiantire.ca

Spirit of the Game The Spirit of the Game Society was established to help families in Oliver and Osoyoos. A non-profit organization with a volunteer board, the Spirit of the Game Society is structured to deliver 100% of all donations to providing league fees and covering equipment costs. It does this by working with generous partners and organizing annual funding events. www.sotgsociety.com Anyone Can Join applications are available at the Oliver Parks and Recreation Office. Spirit of the Game and Jumpstart applications are available on their respective websites. Fresh cut Salads, Pastas, Ice Cream & more!
