Casa Dos Sueños is a restored house located in the historic center of the city of Mérida, which previously housed an air conditioning workshop.

The intention of the project was to rescue the essence of the old house by restoring and rescuing the typical characteristics of historic houses, in the same way new spaces were integrated adding the greatest amount of lighting and natural ventilation possible.

The distribution of the property in three bays interspersed by two patios was respected and emphasized, simplifying its volumetry.

The project consisted of the recovery of a property from the 40’s, preserving the original structure and implementing certain modifications to achieve light entrances and a distribution that will generate a greater space for the use of wheelchairs.

For the modification of the façade, it was decided to eliminate the non-original elements and implement a simpler volume with artisan stone details from the region.

This technique is known as “Mayan star”, and is found in typical constructions of the region and its surroundings. The studio implemented these details as a revaluation of this craft work.

Casa Chembech is a restored property in the heart of the homonymous neighborhood, which preserves the essence of the architecture of the historic center of the city of Mérida.

The restoration of the first floor preserves elements such as the symmetrical and simple proportion of the old houses.

The façade was made from the beginning with a stone wall that will contrast with the interior jewel and the rest of the adjoining houses.

In most of the rooms, light tones were proposed with combinations of stones from the region and pigments in Mayan green to create a warm sensation in the interior. As for the floor, white cement was combined and mosaic mats in the center that become protagonists when looking down.

In the second bay is the staircase that leads to the main room facing the extensive patio that preserves vegetation and shows a spaciousness that can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

In the back you can see the dining room that works in synergy with floor-to-ceiling windows that show the patio and pool in all its splendor.

Tamarindo House is a renovated residence situated in the central part of Merida’s city center. The central theme of the design focuses on the prominent tamarind tree located at the rear of the property. Overcoming the challenge of limited space, the primary objective was to draw attention to the narrow premises while ensuring sufficient lighting and ventilation, all within the constraints of the terrain.

Casita Canzul is an old property in the center of the city of Merida, which, although it is a small property, houses a broad architectural program and whose main use is focused on airbnb rentals. This opened us up to be able to explore different volumes that come out of the traditional scheme of the area.

The first bay houses the double-height living room, preserving in this first, the typical scheme of traditional Yucatecan houses, when touring the space we find an open-plan kitchen that has a floor-to-ceiling window to generate a connection with the outside area.

On the second floor is the main bedroom distributed in a central scheme and which is covered with a barrel-vaulted ceiling to further emphasize the visual finish.

The exterior patio serves as a connection between a first volume and a second that only has two guest rooms, when going through the space certain visual elements are combined, such as the pool in an unconventional way, and the observation of vestiges that house a small outside seating area.

The project proposes a more traditional first bay to then play with different shapes and volumes, all this combined with the use of typical materials from the region such as flagstone, the “Mayan star” artisan technique and the use of natural pigments. with a typical earth tonality of the region called “kankab”

The project consisted of the restoration of a house from the 60’s, which was focused on dividing the property to obtain two airbnb rooms.

The entire structure of the house was preserved, adding openings for the entry of light and visual finishes, in the same way the typical characteristics of the Yucatecan modernist era were preserved, such as the thin columns, and the light flown slabs.

As a materiality, most of the floors were preserved, adding certain spaces with paste floors and polished white concrete to delimit the new areas.

One of the most important points of the project is the new use of “alguibe”, which was formerly used as water tanks, and which currently serves as an intimate space within a small pool.

The project consisted of creating a volumetry that allowed the flow of air and the visual connection with the sea as much as possible.

The proposal consists of a volume made up of a central patio, which provides ventilation to the secondary rooms that are located in the first part of the house, the second section houses a kitchen and a double-height living room, which maximizes the view towards the ocean. .

This area is also connected to a terrace, pool and a social area at the foot of the beach.

On the second floor is the main bedroom that also has a full view of the ocean.

The materiality is made up of the “chukum” finish, a type of Yucatan and which also has waterproof properties, which makes it ideal for the humidity of the area. Typical woods and wicker elements were also used to complete an atmosphere of warmth.
