Dear Patrons,
As we transition from the sun-filled days of summer to the brilliant colors of Autum and crisp air of winter, it is a time for reflection on where we've been and excitement for what's ahead. Here at the Park District, we've had a wonderful start to 2024, with even more to come!
Jake Worley-Hood Vice President
Jake Worley-Hood@pdop org
Earlier this year, the District was honored with one of four highly coveted Gold Medal finalist positions for the fourth consecutive year. This award honors parks and recreation agencies across the nation who demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, resource management, and innovative approaches to delivering superb park and recreation services with fiscally sound business practices. While the Gold Medal Plaque recipient won’t be unveiled until October, this acknowledgement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every member of our staff. Please join me and the Board of Commissioners in extending a heartfelt congratulations!
The Park District is working diligently toward crafting its 2025-29 Comprehensive and Strategic Master Plan that will guide the development and management of our parks and recreation system. The Plan is a product of community input and priorities, and will be finalized in December 2024. Learn more at ourparksourfuture.com.
Regular Park Board Meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month and the Committee of the Whole (COW) Meetings are generally held on the first Thursday of the month. All meetings are held at 7:30P at the John L. Hedges Administrative Center, 218 Madison Street, Oak Park. Public comment is welcome at these meetings. There is no COW meeting in August.
This fall, the District will continue its master plan review for the following parks: Carroll Center (Sept), Field Park (Oct), and Austin Gardens (Nov). The Park Board’s policy states that each park’s site plan will be revisited and updated within a 10-year period. The purpose of revisiting each site plan per this policy is to identify additional amenities desired by our residents, to budget strategically for these improvements, and to be prepared for grant opportunities. Visit our website at pdop.org/park_plans or subscribe to our newsletter for dates and locations of these meetings.
Finally, Park District staff has developed a variety of programming within in the pages of this Program Guide. There is truly something for everyone and I hope that it enables you to create both
Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!
Kathleen Porreca, President Board of Park Commissioners

Carry In/Carry Out Program
We all understand the importance of caring for our environment so that we leave our planet better than we found it for future generations. Each one of us can make a difference. The same is true for our parks. Here is your opportunity to be a good park steward.
We are asking for your help and cooperation in keeping our parks clean and safe through our Carry In/Carry Out program. You simply need to carry out all waste and recyclables you bring into the park. Basically leave the park the way you found it. It’s that simple. Walking is a great way to get some exercise. The only equipment you need are your legs and walking shoes!
