GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE

The Australian Management College’s primary goal for General English students is to prepare them to communicate successfully in English outside the classroom.

The course is designed to develop independent learning through student centred activities with a focus on completing tasks and developing a higher level of communication. It effectively integrates reading, writing, listening and speaking, which optimizes the possibility of a student reaching their learning potential.

COURSE DURATION

The 62-week teaching program (known as General English course) has 6 levels, each taught over 10 weeks.

Students will be expected to complete homework tasks at least twice a week and should expect this to take 10 hours each week.

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

AMC will assess which level students should start at, and the recommended duration, based on their scores for reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar on the College’s English Placement Test.

Alternatively, students can progress or enter based on a passing grade in the immediately preceding General English level.

We can support you in many areas including day-to-day life in Australia, finding your way around in a big city, and anything at all relating to housing, medical issues, activities, your studies and counselling. The emotional welfare of our students is extremely important and we strive to make you happy and comfortable in your home away from home!

ACADEMIC SUPPORT

At AMC students always come first. We offer counselling and advice to assist you with your academic studies. Our Academic Department has an open door policy and you can talk to them about courses or future studies whenever you like.

WELFARE SUPPORT

Our dedicated Student Support Services staff is here to help you if you feel homesick, have personal problems or just want to talk.

If there’s something bothering you, however big or small, help is at hand. Our counsellors are experienced social workers. They have extensive knowledge work- ing with students with mental health issues, ranging from adjustment stress to common mental illnesses like anxiety and depression. The service is free and confidential.

ONGOING ASSESSMENT

Assessment is undertaken regularly to monitor and track progress. Students are given a wide range of assignments, tests and homework exercises that help to extend all four macro skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking. AMC students will not just be answering grammar questions, but will also be giving presentations, creating posters, working in pairs and small groups, and of course speaking with their teacher one on one. Additionally students have the opportunity to move up to the next class every week by taking a level up test.
