PILLARS OF ISLAM AND THEIR IMPORTANCE IN THE LIGHT OF THE QURAN

BELIEF IN THE ONENESS OF ALLAH: -

• The pillars of Islam in proper order begin with the belief in the unity of Allah.

• Every Muslim must believe in heart and proclaim with the tongue that there is no God, but Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) are the last messenger and Prophet of Allah.

PRAYER: • When the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ascended to the heavens, Allah gifted him the invaluable Salah. Salah or prayer is a Muslim’s way to make contact with Allah, just how the Prophet met with Allah on the night of Ascension.

• Prayer timings are spread over the day to remind a Muslim that he is a servant of Allah. He must offer his gratitude to Him at different intervals of the day.

FASTING: -

• Fasting in Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam. Muslims fast during this month to show their submissive to Allah. Moreover, it lets a person feel the pain of hunger that poor people experience on a routine basis. The objective is to make a person more empathic towards the poor and needy.

ZAKAT: -

• One of the 5 pillars of Islam is to pay zakat annually, which is 2.5% of the total wealth, exceeding a certain limit known as nisaab.

HAJJ: -

• The last of the pillars of Islam is the annual pilgrimage, the Muslims make to the house of Allah in Makkah, known as Hajj. Hajj is performed from 8th to 12th of Dhul Hijjah.
