Livingston’s Life

October 30, 1977 - March 1, 2023

THE EARLY YEARS

The birth of a child is always a precious gift from God and an exciting event. The birth on the island of New Providence at about 2:00 a.m. was no exception. Life’s journey began Sunday, 30th October 1977, when proud parents Pauline Minnis Davis & Livingston Davis counted it a blessing as they welcomed their firstborn child, their son, and bestowed the name Livingston Kelvero Davis, affectionately called “Winky.”

Growing up, Winky was always a quiet but observant little boy. He may have had little to say, but his brain was like a sponge, absorbing everything around him. From an early age, he attempted to “learn as much as he can, while he can.” As he grew older and into adulthood, Winky held onto this philosophy, which became one of his mantras. This helped him in his early years to excel in his academic endeavors. He received his early education at the William Pipps Primary School, C.I. Gibson and the Government High School.

Eager and ready to claim his independence, he received gainful employment at the Ministry of Environmental Health Services, where he was happily employed up to his passing.

THE MAN & HIS GOD

Winky was blessed to have a mother who believed in the power and protection of God. It was at Commonwealth Mission Baptist Church that the family worshipped, and she ensured her children attended so that they could grow in the things of God. He was actively involved in the Boy’s Brigade and the Children’s and Youth Ministries as a child, and it was not until he became a young man that he truly gained an appreciation for all

the things he was taught concerning God.

Winky had an encounter with God, and this intimate meeting with the Lord changed his life forever. Going to church became a joy to him. He could not wait until Sunday to enter the house of the Lord with praise and thanksgiving and listen to what the Father had to say to him from the preached message. His love for God grew each day he was allowed, and the need to draw closer to the Savior became his heart’s desire. Winky loved life and often commented on how blessed he was. He recognized that every morning was a new mercy God allowed him to see. He was never timid or ashamed to share and talk about God’s goodness with anyone who would listen and was never hesitant to help or encourage someone. Livingston trusted and believed in God without wavering, and once he felt that God spoke to him and gave him instructions, that was that and nothing, and no one could tell him otherwise.

A TIME TO LOVE

In 2009, the Word of God, as stated in Proverbs 18:22, proved true to Livingston though he did not know it then. It was through Elizabeth Avenue, in front of PKF Chartered Accountants, that he met Nadia Richardson. She was heading to work, and he was waiting for his work truck to pick him up after dropping him through the wrong corner (which he always commented was the “right corner” after all). As she approached him, he knew he had to say something, and in typical Winky fashion, he managed to get her attention and capture her interest enough to get a phone call later that night. That phone call began a thirteen-year friendship.

Livingston came to admire Nadia’s qualities and characteristics and passionately pursued this lovely gem. Their love for each other eventually culminated in the understanding that they had found the person they wanted to spend the rest of their life with. They happily married on 26th September 2015, with family and friends present to share in their joy. Livingston loved reminding his wife that “God always give you the best,” meaning she was his best, and he was hers. During their seven-year marriage, Livingston committed himself to be the best husband and often commented that he took his marriage seriously and did not want it to fail. He cared for his home and tried to ensure that the woman he loved was protected, provided for, and lacked nothing. He was resolute in his role as husband and “head of the house.” He took great delight in spending quality time with his family (including the dogs). Walks in the neighborhood or a drive around the island were regular family outings. Livingston often led his wife in morning prayer before they left the house for work and always indicated that he could not do anything unless he “touched basis with God” first. Once he prayed, he felt his family was ready to face whatever that day may bring.

LIVINGSTON, THE MAN

Anyone meeting Livingston for the first time might have been intimidated by his stature and commanding presence. He often wore a serious expression, with the walk to match, but underneath it all, he was a gentle giant once you got to know him. Livingston had a kind, loving, genuine heart with an infectious personality and would have you laughing for days. There was no pretense with him. He firmly believed that God blessed him to be a blessing to others, and he gave of himself selflessly and never hesitated to share with someone what he knew. Livingston was also family-oriented and often gave nicknames to the special people in his life. Nadia was his “Babycakes,” his mother his “Champion,” his baby sister his “Bougaloue,” and he was their protector. Livingston was strong-willed; once he decided something, only God could get him to change it.

Livingston loved life and enjoyed watching people having fun and spending time with their friends and families. He especially enjoyed parking on Bay Street and watching the tourists enjoy themselves. The beach was his favorite, though Livingston rarely went into the water. He could park there for hours, often meditating on God, planning his “next move,” or simply relaxing.

Livingston was never a lazy person. He was always hardworking and often executed his duties with excellence. He firmly believed in maximizing time and getting things accomplished within the day. Livingston enjoyed challenges, had a curious mind,

was unafraid to take risks and was fearless in most things. Winky was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and a champion at Dominos, which he frequently played. He especially loved it when he played against the veteran players and won. He loved watching reality shows and true story-based films that taught him something, disliked fictional tales, and occasionally, comedies caught his interest. Some of his favorite shows were the First 48, Storage Wars, and Bounty Hunter D, and he could never get enough of the Friday series (Friday After Next was his pick).

Livingston had a love for animals, especially dogs, which was evident in the pets he had. He took great care in training them and loved taking them out for walks and showing them off. They were his pride and joy. He would spend many afternoons just playing with them. It was his delight to have them jump on him and lick him all over his face and arms, or any body part that they could access. He often commented that dogs were truly man’s best friend because they were genuine in their affection and loved you unconditionally.

LIVINGSTON’S MANTRAS

“Learn as much as you can while you can.”

“Don’t waste time because once it’s gone, it’s gone, and you can never get it back.”

“God always gives you the best.”

“When people get the wrong idea about you, you must correct them.”

“Sometimes you need to show people better than you can tell them.”

“Show people love while they are alive because when they are gone, it is too late.”

LIVINGSTON’S TRANSITION

The last few days of Livingston’s life were routine. That weekend, he worked in the yard and was impressed with the results. He went to work Monday and Tuesday, and as he laid down that Tuesday night, no one knew that would be the last time he would be seen alive. In the early morning of 1st March 2023, God called Livingston to Himself, and he peacefully exchanged time for eternity.

It is said that we should weep at birth and rejoice at death. Despite the heaviness of our grief, we rejoice in the fact that he has completed his journey and is resting peacefully with the God he loved.

Livingston was preceded in death by his father, Livingston Davis.

Order Of Service

Procession Of Family ................................................................................................................. “The Lord Is My Shepherd”

Call To Order ................................................................................................................................Minister Davonia Williams

Opening Hymn “And Can It Be”

And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Savior’s blood?

Died He for me, who caused His pain? For me, who Him to death pursued?

Amazing love, how can it be

That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Amazing love (amazing love)!

How can it be (how can it be)

That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

‘Tis mystery all! the immortal dies: Who can explore His strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine.

‘Tis mercy all! let earth adore

Let angel minds inquire no more

‘Tis mercy all (‘tis mercy all)!

Let earth adore (let earth adore)

Let angel minds inquire no more

He left His Father’s throne above So free, so infinite His grace Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race: ‘Tis mercy all, immense and free, For, O my God, it found out me! ‘Tis mercy all (‘tis mercy all) Immense and free (immense and free) For, O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quickening ray I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. My chains fell off, my heart was free I rose, went forth, further followed Thee.

No Condemnation Now I Dread; Jesus, And All In Him, Is Mine; Alive In Him, My Living Head, And Clothed In Righteousness Divine, Bold I Approach The Eternal Throne, And Claim The Crown, Through Christ My Own. Bold I Approach (Bold I Approach)

The Eternal Throne (The Eternal Throne) And Claim The Crown, Through Christ My Own.

Prayer For The Family............................................ Rev. Ulric Smith, Minister, Zion Baptist Church, East & Shirley St.

Recessional Hymn…………………………………………………………….” What A Friend We Have In Jesus”

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer!

Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer!

Are we weak and heavy-laden, Cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge—

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In His arms He’ll take and shield thee, Thou wilt find a solace there.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged— Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear; May we ever, Lord, be bringing All to Thee in earnest prayer. Soon in glory bright, unclouded, There will be no need for prayer— Rapture, praise, and endless worship Will be our sweet portion there.

“CITY OF GOLD”

Graveside Hymns

“IT’S ALRIGHT NOW”

There’s a city of light where there cometh no night, ‘Tis a city of beauty untold; All my treasures are there and its beauty I’ll share When I get to that city of gold.

When I leave all trouble and care, I will say good morning up there; I will have great gladness untold, When I get to that city of gold.

There’s no sorrow up there in that city so fair And no sickness can enter I’m told; Shadows all will have flown, I will meet friends I’ve known, When we get to that city of gold.

Won’t you go there with me to the home of the free, Would you see heaven’s beauty unfold? If you will come along we will sing heaven’s song, When we get to that city of gold.

“GLAD REUNION DAY”

There will be a happy meeting in heaven I know, When we see the many loved ones we’ve known here below; Gather on the blessed hilltops with hearts all aglow, That will be a glad reunion day.

Glad (That will be a happy day) day, Yes, a wonderful day, Glad (That will be a happy day) day, Yes, a glorious day, There with all the holy angels and loved ones to stay, That will be a glad reunion day.

There within the holy city we’ll sing and rejoice, Praising Christ the blessed Savior with heart and with voice; Tell Him how we came to love Him and make Him our choice, That will be a glad reunion day.

When we live a million years in that wonderful place, Basking in the love of Jesus, beholding His face, It will seem but just a moment of praising His grace, That will be a glad reunion day.

There was a time I traveled A lonely sinful road Beneath a heavy burden bending low; But now all things are different, For Jesus took my load, It’s alright now, I’m His I know.

It’s alright now, for I am in my Savior’s care, It’s alright now, my Savior hears and answers prayer; He’ll walk beside me ‘til I climb the heav’nly stair, And ev’rything is alright now.

A-down a lonely pathway without a friend to guide, I walked in sin and sorrow all alone; ‘Til Jesus came and found me, and drew me to His side, It’s alright now, for I’m His own.

No more in sin I wander, no more in darkness roam, The Lord has placed my feet on higher ground; Each day new heights I’m gaining, my soul is nearing home, It’s alright now, I’m heaven bound.

LOVE AUNT LEONA & FAMILY

To My Husband And Best Friend

YLike Laughing, From The First Time You Said Hello. I Still Recall Vividly Those Beautiful Brown Eyes Sparkling And That Sexy Smile. You Gave Me Your Number, Making Me Promise To Call You, And With Little Hesitation, I Called You That Night. From That Moment On, We Were Talking Ever Since. You Had A Way About Yourself That Drew Me Into You Completely. I Loved Your Sense Of Humor Which Never Failed To Put A Smile On My Face.

I Loved Your Perception Of Certain Things That Exposed Me To A Different Way Of Thinking. I Loved Your Passion And Desire For God That You Never Hid. You Always Shared And Talked About The Goodness Of God With Friends, Co-Workers, And Strangers, And Always Sought To Offer Encouragement When Possible. I Loved Your Generous, Loving Nature That Desired To Help And Be A Source Of Blessing To Others. I Loved Your Sense Of Duty, Loyalty And Faithfulness. Besides God, You Made Me Your Number One Priority. You Often Reminded Me That You Loved Me And Showed It In The Little Things, Which Meant So Much To Me. From Day One, We Have Been Together, Almost Inseparable. Our Small Family Meant So Much To You.

You Have Been A Part Of My Life For The Past Thirteen Years, Which Makes Your Sudden

Envisioned For One Second That We Would Not Wake Up Together Every Morning For The Years To Come. I Never Thought That My Friend, Protector, Defender, Provider, Priest, Teacher, Lover, Would No Longer Be There Beside Me. But The God We Served And Whom You Loved Deeply, Called You To Himself That Morning, And This Is Something I Must Accept. So Livingston, My Love, My Davis, I Just Want To Say Thank You. Thank You For The Honesty, Unconditional Love, Faithfulness, Laughter, Adventures, Life Lessons, Long Drives, And Conversations. As I Struggle To Face Life Without You, These Are The Precious Treasures That I Will Forever Hold On To. You Were A Beautiful Person Inside And Out, And I Am Privileged To Be The One You Chose To Share Every Part Of Yourself With. I Thank God For Allowing Me These Special Years With You. There Will Never Be Another Livingston. There Will Never Be Another Davis.

You Will Forever Be In My Heart And Mind. I Will Always Love You Deeply.
